I'm in the same boat as you and very pessimistic about my chances. I've contemplated about squashing my dreams of becoming a DPT. But, I know everyday when I go to work (PT tech at Texas PTS), I enjoy every minute. I wouldn't even call it work anymore lol. But, I am applying this summer (granted, I complete all my pre-reqs in time) and I hope everything works out.

I don't understand why you got denied at so many places.

Is this profession really getting that competitive that 3.7 and 3.8 is not good enough anymore?

PTCAS does not include international courses in the GPA calculation. The OP is Canadian, and if none of his credits were earned in the US, he may not have had a PTCAS GPA.

I went to a Canadian university for my first two undergrad years, then transferred to a school in the US. PTCAS only calculated my GPA based on my US courses. I think the system needs to be improved for international applicants.

OUTDOORS- why are you coming to the US for grad school? I ask because I went to Canadian uni in the first place because of the low tuition (and well, Canada is nice anyway 😉 )

Not Canadian but I went to UBC as an international student from the states...still cheaper than alot of the Top US Schools. The grading system is quite abit different, for example an 80 is a A-, so the average grade in classes was a 60-70 which look quite different without a conversion.

Some schools notified me AFTER they took my money that I would need to pay extra to have my transcripts evaluated by a third party for quite abit of $$$ before they would consider them. Others put them through their own GPA conversions without my input.

The whole process was exhausting and I am very very happy that I was accepted not only to a good program but one that is very inexpensive as well (~60k).

Coming back to the states for grad school because Canada is on a MPT system and really only seeds provincial students for its medical programs. (Even though I finished my Ba there I would still be considered as an international student). I took my pre-reqs at UMass Lowell, and Middlesex Community College (I retook chem I, Chem II, Physics I, Physics II, Anatomy I, Anatomy II) since the canadian system does not line up perfectly with US schools in topics covered.

Let me know if anyone has any other questions

My biggest piece of advice is don't waste money or time applying to a school if you're not serious about attending that school, and only apply if you've done the research and know for sure you have all the prereqs. Some schools require some obscure class that you may not have. Ask yourself, "If I wasn't accepted to ANYWHERE else, would I still go here?" If the answer is no, don't apply. I know this sounds obvious, but you'd be amazed how many people apply to a big long list of schools that they'd never consider attending anyway! This is why I only applied to three.

So I have two quick questions. My application has been completed for like a week now, but I am waiting on my last LOR. Can I e-submit without it? Also, I am retaking the GRE in September. If I resubmit now will programs consider my new scores? I do not want to wait to e-sumbit at the last minute. Some of the school deadlines at in October. Any suggestions?😕

Pumped. I enjoy international travel so that is one reason why I chose this school. I also chose it so I can get my license in 2 years instead of 3. I also like their therapy. Finally glad to get this chapter of my life done with as I have been working hard the last 1.5 years to get A's in all of my pre-reqs.

I've been following these forums for the past 2 years, waiting for my chance to post and that time has finally come. My PTCAS GPA's are kinda low (2.2 Freshman year killed that, but hopefully the admissions committee will take into account the 3.4 , 3.5, and 3.8 in the following years), but thankfully all of the schools I am applying to take the highest grade, which is huge.

Wow! How have I not heard of this before!? I had no idea Scotland had a program, that sounds amazing.

hope4baylor,

Very impressive stats and GRE. I wish I would have focused on GRE more, I think you'll attain a Baylor spot.

wanderpt,

Thanks! I'm actually having issues with the medical portion of Baylor and may not be eligible. The whole process is really testing my resolve!

Your stats are really solid though, are you going to get military observation hours? I think if you did you'd be a shoe-in for Baylor!

How long did you study for the GRE, and what methods did you use? I will be applying to the DPT program in October after I take my GRE in September. Did you study a lot of vocab words? Any info will be helpful. Thank you,

I didn't study much, just went over the math section. I'm a good test taker.

But, I suggest getting off forums and really thinking about you and how you learn, everyone is different. then study appropriately. I learn by doing, for example, so if I wanted to improve my score I'd take lots and lots of practice tests. I'd get no benefit at all from memorizing vocab.

How long did you study for the GRE? What are the best study methods? Did you memorize lots of vocab for the verbal section? Please help.

Thank you
Calvin

I finished my PTCAS app on 7/4/2013 and it mailed out on 8/6/2013. I had an email about the interview on 8/9/2013. My interview is September 6th! Very nice! Are you from the Mid West?
