Still waiting for my analytical writing GRE score. They say it takes 10-14 days for the essays to be graded. It that time estimate accurate with everyone's experience? Also, does anyone think I should take the GRE again to raise my math score, or is the verbal score high enough to offset it?
 
My writing score came back in about 2 weeks. Maybe slightly less. As for retaking it, that depends on the average scores of the schools you apply to. 152 seems pretty common for the average math score on the GRE at schools. If it is at your school, then I wouldn't sweat hitting the average in math and nicely above average in verbal. That's a pretty good spot to be in.

I got mine in 9 days (which seemed really fast to me). Don't sweat the math score--your verbal score is gorgeous and from what I've found out, most schools look at either just the verbal or the overall score. As long as 152 is average for your schools, you're fine.
 
You have an impressive verbal score, so I wouldn't sweat it too much. I've heard that schools don't care about quant. as much anyways. I got my score back in maybe 8 days? I was definitely before 10 business days though, and I didn't get an e-mail about it either. I checked the GRE website maybe twice a day after I took it.

It's been a long path, but I've finally been accepted to a DPT program! As a non traditional student and PTA, the bridge program was my real shot at PT school since I need to work. I retook several courses at community colleges to improve my undergraduate GPA over about 4 years. Findlay here I come! Class of 2017. 🙂

Let me just start by saying that this forum is amazing! I am so glad I have found it because I have learned alot from here. I know on paper my stats are very bad but I do have quite the story to tell. I just do not know if I will get my chance to tell it this go around. I am already signed up for classes that start next week to replace my C's.

My first few years at ASU I was only there to have school as a back up plan.
I have raced professional motocross since 2007 and I had complete focus on that.
The level of dedication it takes to compete at this level is extraordinary, it is the equivalent to MLB, NFL, NBA when comparing other sports (meaning there is nothing higher, better)
It was extremely difficult trying to juggle school and professional athlete, so school took the hit!
I was making great money and thought gettings C's in courses would get me through college.

Long story short I didnt have much guidance but when I found out there was a minimum gpa requirement, I started kickin butt and was on the Deans list my last 4 semesters. Those first few years killed me though!!

Motocross is my first passion but I am ready for a new chapter in life and PT is amazing! I absolutely love the idea of helping others as a career!
Most likely I will have to get my stats up, but I will get into a program because I am driven to make this my career.
P.s. Any advice is greatly appreciated, Im mostly doing this all on my own.

Hey all,

So I'm getting ready to finish my PTCAS application, and I was wondering if anyone else applying/already in a PT program could give me some advice about shadowing. I currently have 110 shadow hours in 1 Outpatient Clinic; however, I plan on getting some more shadow hours during the next month for Inpatient. If I submit my application now, and continue to update my PT hours for the next month, will PT schools see the hours I originally submitted right when I send everything in or do they not look at applications until the Firm Application Date when everything must be turned in for specific schools? I know that having only 1 clinic in outpatient might affect my PT application, and I wanted some information on when schools actually check the PT hours completed if they are on a Firm Application Date.

Can someone please tell me if I am competitive or if I have a chance to get into any PT program? I know my GPA isn't strong, but I did very well in my pre-reqs. Also, my overall is bad because I have to work full time for my family. I have been very stressed about this application process. I absolutely love this field and just want to get started in this career choice. I have strong LORs and a very good essay. Please let me know what you think. IMO, you'll go wherever you want as long as you don't blow the interview. Your stats and career as a paramedic are impressive. I thought my GRE score was great for PT school (although I was scoring near you on powerpreps).

I'm concerned about my low pre-req GPA (I should have taken medical leave after a serious concussion, and my GPA reflects it), but my essays are strong and I have fairly strong interview skills. Any words of encouragement are more than welcome!

You're competitive enough to get into a top 20 program if you want. The only thing I'd suggest is to get some more hours inpatient or at a rehab hospital. Additionally, GRE is strong, but you can improve on your verbal and it depends on if your AW is >4. I wouldn't worry too much about the extras since you're an athlete. If you like OSU definitely apply there because it's cheaper and a great program.

I last heard they were still filling the 2014 class as of 8/27 and that an email update should be sent out within the next few weeks for 2015 applicants.

Since then I have reported 18 hours of A's on my application and racked up a year of experience at a clinic. If I do not get into AASU, then I will be applying to Emory, North GA, Mercer, GA State, Georgia Regents, UK, UF, MUSC. I want to come up with at least 3 more. How much do I need to improve my application?

I would retake your GRE, if you have time/money to do so. It'll make you more competitive, especially since you can't bring up your overall GPA much by taking more classes.

Yeah I'd take the GRE again for sure. How did you study for your current score? If it was half heartily, really buckle down and give it another go. A solid five weeks of intense prep could really help you. Use Magoosh and Manhattan Prep Quant books.

Note: Currently taking Anatomy, which is the only major pre-req I'm missing. Not sure if this will hurt me or not, but the explanation is I did not decide on PT until last fall and my school just started offering it this semester.

My overall GPA and science and math GPA is low due to engineering courses. Looking back, I definitely could have a much higher GPA if I had chosen another major, but I made sure to emphasize in my essays the skills this rigorous program has taught me that will make me a successful PT and I have heard (though not counting on) the programs close to Georgia Tech (Emory, GSU, Georgia Health) recognize that. PTCAS also categorized a lot of my BMED courses incorrectly and I emailed them about that so hopefully it'll be corrected. I did pretty well in the GRE, I'm confident in my essays and my recommendation letters should be very good (PT, Professor, Supervisor). I'm also confident in my interviewing abilities as I do all the hiring, interviewing and auditioning for the group fitness program at Georgia Tech. I don't have a lot of extracurriculars but the three that I do list take up most of my time. I am very committed to them as I hold high positions and have held those positions for a long time, and I have a lot to say about the things I've learned. I think I did not apply to as many schools as most people who have posted, but my first choice is Emory and Georgia Health Sciences is my backup, and wow is it expensive to apply to so many. I know my weaknesses and will focus on my strengths. If you have any recommendations or comments on how competitive my application is, I would incredibly appreciate it!
