Anyone else?!? It is the COTA to OT transitional program. Has anyone already been through the interview process? What was it like?

Hi there! CONGRATS! I went to SRU for my undergrad and am applying this year for OT. I have similar stats and have talked to Loveland in person, he is awesome and I have heard great things about him from my previous SRU professors. You will definitely like it if you commit! Its a great school and I have no doubt that the OT program will be great too!

Question about SRU app: 1. How did you send your observation hours? Through those links? Did you send the link to everyone you shadowed? I shadowed somewhere in Nov and they said that what the OT submitted wont be carried over. I dont know how to verify hours if I have to wait until July to have the OTs complete the form? Since I am getting hours now... 2. How many pages was the essay that SRU asked for? There are quite a few points to be answered... Thanks a bunch!

I wouldn’t hesitate too much about accepting. SRU has a quality PT program and has recently got a PA program accredited. I bet there will be challenges of being the first class. However, I have no doubt that the professors and other admins at SRU will do everything they can.

Hi guys! Does anyone have any thoughts on my chances of getting into a program with my stats? Being that I was a business major, I am nervous. I know it gives me a diverse perspective, especially with so much experience in the industry and around therapists/clinicians but still... Seeing posts on these forums gives me hope but is also discouraging as some stats are just so much better than mine. My first semester at SRU was a disaster because I was going through family issues at home and my grades fell as result. I wish I had been aware of what resources were available for emotional support or aware of the option available to withdraw from the course that was going to poorly affect my GPA. I plan to apply to the programs this summer when the applications open. Praying for the best outcome! I've never been so determined.

Anyways, does anyone have advice on applying to OT schools in general (OTCAS, personal statement, application boosters)? Anything is appreciated!

Tip/Motivation for those that aren't the best at the GRE: I took the GRE in January 2017 after studying (aka cramming) for a month and walked out crying because I did awful. I was so defeated and never thought I would earn a competitive score. I studied more effectively and retook it in September and I WENT UP 12 POINTS. If you struggle with standardized test here are the study materials I used that helped me soooo much.
1. Kaplan GRE book (comes with tons of online full-length practice tests: Taking the GRE is A LOT about the endurance of taking a 4-hour test. The practice test is just like the actual test & it works every single question out for you to review at the end. I did this over and over.
2. VictorPrep Vocab Podcast: OH MY GOODNESS this helped my verbal score soooo much. This is a podcast that I used to listen to every time I was in my car. A precious, British man explains vocabs word in such an understandable way. I enjoyed this so much that I STILL listen to them. I have come across tons of the words he goes over on the GRE (as well as life).

Hello! I go to OSU for undergrad now, and I'm going there for OT school starting in May. I've heard that a lot of the kids who are at the top of the wait list have a very good chance of getting in. Just hang tight!! I'm sure you'll hear good news soon! Good luck!

Congratulations? If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats? How was the interview? Did they say at your interview how many spots were filled up? I know at some of my interviews they have given that info.

Hi all!
So I have to make a pretty difficult (but good difficult) decision. I was accepted into Chatham University’s MOT program and the University of Pittsburgh’s OTD program. I don’t know which school to choose and would LOVE some advice! I know Pitt is a highly ranked school but I also love Chatham’s more intimate program with only 30 students whereas Pitt has 60. I don’t know if I should deny a highly ranked school and get my doctorate out of the way or go to Chatham which is still an amazing program and receive my masters and decide later if I want to get my doctorate. Any advice would be appreciated - I’m all over the place!

How much did BU give you/what were your stats? I'm interviewing at BU but was also accepted at Pitt which is in-state for me so not sure how much I can expect the costs to even with scholarships.

Boston University. It ended costing less than Pitt (they gave me a scholarship), but before that I was 100% set on Pitt. I don't see myself going back to school so I wanted to get my OTD now instead of later. Also, my rationale was that if I was accepted to both schools in Pittsburgh, I'd want to attend the best. Pitt has amazing faculty.

Accepted to Tufts with a scholarship! I found out in a voicemail and was told it should all be available online this week.

Hi there! Here are my stats. I hope it's helpful! I was really confused going into this process what it would take to get in.

GPA: 3.9
GRE: Combined was a 313 (Midwestern doesn't look at GRE though!)
Observation Hours: 85 (I also had employment in the field for a summer, but don't know if this counted at all)

The interview was fantastic! It was my best experience by far! The faculty were so friendly, and seemed great! At the interview, they said about half the spots were filled up. I absolutely loved Midwestern! The only thing holding me back is the cost of attendance there. I'm thinking right now that by itself is going to be a deal breaker. The campus was gorgeous, the students I talked with liked the program, and I liked everything else though!
