Hey All-

I have also lived in DC for the past 5 years, was a GW undergraduate and a Georgetown graduate student...sooo, if anyone has any questions about places to live or DC in general, feel free to ping me via PM. 🙂

Well, technically no, I'm not from D.C. but I've lived here (in D.C.) for over 10 years now.

Are you also in the District?

Bump, bump, bump, BUMP IT UP!

..yes housing does seem like a nightmare in the foggy bottom area..man i thought living in boston was expensive, foggy bottom is almost double what I pay right now! But I guess you get your money's worth, almost all the expensive buildings come with pools..and other amenities..

anyone know of basic buildings in the foggy bottom area, that don't cost an arm or a leg?

Hi Everyone,
When you guys sent in your letter to GWU indicating your interest to remain on the alternate list, did GWU give you some kind of correspondance to acknowledge that they received your letter? One of the previous posters mentioned that they received some type of acknowledgement. Thanks for the help guys. 👍

I got a reply from Dean McQuail a few days after I submitted a letter. They might be inundated with stuff right now so they may not have gotten back to you thus you might want to consider giving them a call.

Got the e-mail yesterday. Nothing too prophetic, just general housing info.

So I talked to a buddy of mine working abroad this year and he too was "upper echelon" last year and didn't end up getting in off the waitlist. So clearly it isn't a shoe-in as the letter kinda indicates. I'm on a bunch of WLs and currently holding zero acceptances, so once I got the upper echelon letter I was feeling a bit at ease... there that goes. 👎

did your friend really show interest in gw? from what i've heard, they want students who really want to be there. hmmm...that's interesting. i wonder if they even took any regular waitlisters 😱

maybe if we show interest in the school and wait, we'll see good results. that's what i'm hoping, anyway.

wow, this waitlist thing is definitely making me anxious..now especially hearing that an upper echeloner didn't make it..

It is a bit surprising though my friend, at GW, told me that in his class, he knows of people who got off the waitlist and had never even heard of the "upper echelon." I am assuming these ppl were on the regular waitlist.

I think gdubb is right, it is all about expressing interest in the school itself.

Housing in Foggy Bottom is pretty ridiculous but luckily other parts of D.C. are more manageable... good ol' supply and demand at work me thinks. As for any reasonable housing within spittin' distance of GW, probably not. You're probably looking at around $1000 for an efficiency. I live about 3.5 miles from GW (but still in the District) and am paying $825 for an efficiency. I think the best way to save money is to either find a roommate, live outside the Distrcit, live in the ghetto, or live in a group house. The latter is a bit contentious because you don't know what your roommates will be like.

Alternatively, a group of people could rent a townhouse? I'm not sure if there are many for rent these days thanks to gentrification but it's another option. Depending on the number of people in the house, rent could actually be resonable.

😱 $1000 😱

and i thought $350 for NC was expensive.

I did a search on apartments.com and almost everything in the Foggy Bottom area was more than a grand. Redonkulous!

I should start betting when there would be movement on the waitlist.. maybe not.

Hey Guys and Gals,
FYI: I have a perfect spot for rent right near GW starting June 1st.

TiVo/Cable TV/30+” TV with stereo speaker system/DVD/VCR/Playstation
TONS OF DVD’S

In the other bedroom is a couple (a 3rd year medical student and her boyfriend... both very nice people, as well)

Washer/dryers in basement of apartment building
Supermarket, 2 restaurants (buffet style and Chinese), bank, flower shop, dry cleaning all located in Columbia Plaza complex.
Free Gym located in plaza (has ellipticals, free weights, treadmill, and weight lifting machine) but we’re also located less than two blocks from the GW Health and Wellness Center

I, the medical student roommate/really nice guy, will be moving out mid-August to start a community facilitator position (Resident assistant) at GWU that provides free housing, so you'll have the option to find a new roommate come August or keep the bedroom to yourself for $1320.

I tried to be as descriptive as possible but email me if you want pictures of the apartment. This is seriously the PERFECT place if you are working on a budget, if you’re a new student to the area, or if you’re just looking for a great place to live – everyone who visits always says how lucky I am.

I think we'll have a bedroom open too - it's in VA, not a bad commute at all, I do it every day - $800 for own bed/bath in a three story three bedroom townhouse. Guess we should put this in the classified forum, Fred?
Anyway, living in VA is slightly cheaper, and I can have my car since I get a parking spot with my room.
I *heart* GW!
Good luck to all!

Has anyone received a reply back from McQuail after submitting an LOI? Mine was very impersonal, including missing spaces between words, and I was trying to figure out if its because she simply doesn't care about me =(....

She does care, just that she probably gets a ton of email from ppl like us..it is really nice of her to even respond..she doesn't have to even do that..

10 more days guys until we can can expect to start hearing...!! Who's starting a countdown...

10..

Hey Team, I haven't posted here recently, but to reiterate I am also on the high priority list thingy. Anyways, surfing MDapplicants has shown me that someone has already been accepted into the class from the list (on May 3rd actually). He said he sent in loads of LOIs and the like, which started to make me wonder what others have been doing? Have all you fellow "upper echeloners" been sending in lots of stuff? I mean I have sent in my fall grades, and wrote a letter expressing my great interest when I got the letter about where I was on the wait list. Other than that I have been surviving the final weeks of my senior year. Should I send in more stuff? I don't even know what to write, since it would just sound the same as my other letter. Honestly, all I can see is me sending in my new grades whenever they are finally tabulated.

With all that out of the way, I wanted to also ask you people what you think about Rush? I have withdrawn all my acceptances except for that one, and I am really torn between it and GW. I mean I don't have a GW acceptance, but the chances of one may be good. I want to live in DC so bad, but it IS mad expensive. Anyways, sorry for all the ranting, GW wannabes keep posting!!!! Let's make the idea of us waitlisters having a drink at the bar a reality!!

was the guy who got pulled from the list an upper echeloner?

I think Rush is an excellent school and living in Chicago is better than lving in DC, both in terms of price and the social scene. Just my opinion. I would say they are both about equal in terms of rep, so it is a matter of where you think you would fit in. Also, if you are a male, Rush has a nursing school 😀

Hey Rzarecta,

I was wondering if you wouldn't mind posting a link to this person's profile?

I think Rush, and Chicago are great. If I would have been accepted to Rush, I would have chosen it ahead of GW in a heartbeat.

Just my two cents..

have a good weekend everybody!

8 more days...

I realize everyone is getting quite anxious, but keep in mind that it may not be the 15th that we'll hear...
According to the adminstrative person I spoke with at GW, once they receive notice that someone has turned down an acceptance it may take a few days to process and then send out a new acceptance. Then the timing of receiving notice may be a few days due to the mail (it isn't beamed like star trek).

BUT, I STILL CAN'T WAIT!!!!

you're right...i am definitely getting anxious. i'm hoping all ya'll upper echeloners will hear soon so then some of us regular waitlist folk can hear good news. THEN we can have that crazyyyyyyyyy party.

i know of one guy that didn't get in until middle of july....so things do move throughout the whole summer *fingers crossed for us all* 😉

bring us back to page 1 😛

6 more days....

..getting a lil too anxious here.. :scared:

For me, it was the whole feeling of the program. Everything from their early focus on clinical medicine, to the natural diversity of the class, to the opportunities provided by the location. At all the schools I interviewed (except one), I felt that each offered something that made it stand out from the others. However, GW combined all of the positive traits from the different schools into one program.
Decide on what you are looking for in a program, but keep your mind open. What is right for one person is totally wrong for another.
Good luck 👍

i'm REALLLLY hoping to get into gw now-- my backup plan of marrying kenny chesney was suddenly ruined when he married renee zellweger last night. 😡 🙁
