GWU Wait List Update

MD Rapper said:thanks for the update.... this makes me *less likely* to wait by the phone for the next couple of days...
my thoughts exactly.
Just as an interesting side note- my office flooded today. So, I'm sitting with wet carpet, waiting for some news. 🙁

Sorry to read about that, Idaho. Hope you'll hear some extra-good news to off-set the lousy office conditions.
Also, congratulations to everyone who's gotten off the waitlist!!! Regardless if I get in, since I'm in D.C., we should meet up and finally put a name to the face.

Aw.. you should eat a cookie 🙂
My side note- our fire alarm went off today and I had to evacuate the building for a very long time... it would have been nice, except I didn't have my keys, my money, or my PHONE!!
skitlez said:I just called GW to ask about the waitlist movement and was told that there has been some movement already, but they are still organizing the incoming letters and the bulk of the movement should be in the next few weeks.![]()
Thanks Skitlez! That is good news. Why is time going so slooowwwwly?!

I just heard from a GW student that Dean McQuail may be on vacation. Maybe there will be a break in the movement.
Doesn't mean I am gonna stop holding my breath! Honestly I didn't realize it was physically possible to cross as many fingers as I am right now (toes too)...Idaho grown said:I just heard from a GW student that Dean McQuail may be on vacation. Maybe there will be a break in the movement.
Keeping us up front!
fdasfdas
Any idea when she left, and when she will be back?

Alright folks, we have a confirmed time!
"Wait: Someone from admissions called me around 1pm EST on Monday. Hope that helps. Good luck!"
Looks like I'll be spending lunch looking at my phone from now on.....

No, he just said ,"I think McQuail is on vacation" so Palladino would be the best contact for the moment

to add to that story:
firemen came to our office asking if we had been smelling gas because there was a gas leak. we were like ahm can we go home then? and he said nah it's probably nothing to worry about...if you don't smell anything. haha.
Sorry this info is kind of dated, but I was accepted off the upper echelon waitlist on Monday. I talked to Dean McQuail around 2:00pm EST and then proceeded to make a complete idiot of myself spastically dancing around my lab.
When I spoke to the admissions staff about a month ago they said they were expecting more movement this year (apparently last year was particularly slow) and from what we've seen so far it looks like that might be the case!
My only advice to current waitlistees is send lots of updates!!!! I knew from very early on in the process that GWU was where I wanted to be and I made this abundantly clear during the interview. Since I was waitlisted in January I sent two letters of intent, one research abstract, one rec. letter from an alumni, and one rec. letter from my advisor at NIH. My stats are not the greatest, so I have to believe my strong interest put me over the top. Anyway, that's about all I got. Good luck to everyone still waiting and hope to see you all in August!

Quick question everybody....does anyone know of someone that was rejected post-interview? I am trying to gauge whether EVERYONE was put on the waitlist other than those accepted, or if there actually were people who interviewed and were denied both an acceptance and waitlist.....

In response to your first question, I have not heard of anyone getting a post interview rejection. Also, I believe it is unlikely as they have sent out pre-interview holds to other students suggesting they could possibly be given summer interviews. Going to such lengths to ensure a full class does not seem to compute with the idea of post-interview rejections. Anyways, with all that out of the way, I am withdrawing from my upper echeclon wait list spot. I hope that you all get in and have that damn drink in Foggy Bottom, and I am sorry that I am gonna miss it.

Don't fret too much. Look on mdapplicants.com there are 59 people listed that were rejected by GW post interview for this year (2005). Adcom's are not going to leave a pile of apps to go through again, if they like you, they'll keep it on file for a while.
hi everyone,
this is my first post here =). Sadly, I wasn't as fortunate as many of you to receive this "upper echelon" letter that's been discussed. I've sent 3 letters to dean mcquail and must admit am anxious as hell. Is it a good idea to personally call her or do we always have to go through the admissions office people first?
*keeping my fingers crossed!* 😕

Welcome SpinGirl! I wouldn't worry too much at this point. Like you, I'm also on the "regular" waitlist and have yet to hear anything from GW. I think, based on the postings on SDN, that GW is taking folks off the "upper echelon" list first. They'll probably start taking people off the regular list once they've exhausted those on the upper tier. Now, when they'll start pulling people off the regular list is a whole nuther ballgame.
Good luck,
Sam

I'm wondering how many people are on this "upper echelon" waitlist...Anyone have a clue? Thanks everyone for the kind support- i definitely needed that! 😛
this is the first year I've heard of the "upper echelon" list,,,I wonder if it is newly devised to make the alternate list more manageable. It almost makes the regular alternate list obsolete, hopefully they'll actually delve into it this year.

Its not the first year. I've had friends in the past couple years on this upper echelon list. Some have gotten in... and some haven't. So its in no way a guarantee. Keep your hopes up guys.

I got off of the "regular" waitlist this past Wednesday, so anything is possible! Please hang in there, everyone. If I can do it, you can too! Just a little FYI -- I made sure that my interest was clear -- I sent a letter every other week letting GW know that I was still VERY interested in attending, so I am sure that helped. Best of luck to everyone! I hope to see you in August!

Congrats GM4,
Can I ask a few questions?
When did you get the waitlist letter? -I got mine April 5th
Did you repeat things in your letters, or were they all some novel information?
Did you address the letters to the dean?
Mail or e-mail?
Thanks

good news..there will be more activity this year than last..
bad news...i think at least 10 ppl have been taken off already
good news...matt from admissions says the bulk of the movement will be the next 2 weeks...I called him today..
GL everyone!

i wonder if they'll still call or just start sending out letters

Are people here holding acceptances to other schools, or is GW the only shot?
Congrats to everyone who got in 🙂
Maybe (hopefully!!) we (all of us obsessive gw-thread sdn people) will be classmates next year!
Wow, I am stressed... 🙁 🙁
and these numbers scare me.
sighs..
Hopefully these next two weeks will bring us some happy news.. 🙂

Idaho grown,
I would more than happy to answer your questions...
-My interview was in November (I know, a million years ago, or so it seems), and I received my waitlist letter eight weeks later.
-I tried to focus on a different reason that I wanted to go to GW every time I wrote a letter, but I always mentioned that I could see myself fitting in as well as being able to bring something unique to the class.
-I actually addressed my letters, "Dear Dean McQuail and Committee" or something along those lines. I sent most letters by snail mail and one or two were faxed over.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helps in the meantime! Good luck!
