Is there such a thing as waitlist for Harvard?

Yes. It's pretty small and has slow/little movement, however, since relatively few people turn down a Harvard acceptance.lea said:Is there such a thing as waitlist for Harvard?

I agree that it is ethical for a person to go into the financial aid website if their intentions are to apply for financial aid alone. However, I argue that it is unethical and morally questionable if one's intentions are to enter the website for the purpose of finding out their application status prior to receiving the letter. Although hacking requires a different method of intrusion, I believe that the those who have the intent of entering the financial aid website with the purpose of finding their status are also intruding on Harvard's privacy. Both are a form of intrusion and for that reason, it is unethical. Harvard admissions would agree that such an action is intrusive, which is why they changed their financial aid page for this year. I strongly discourage people from attempting to use alternate means of finding out their status other than the letter you will all receive. We, as doctors, must respect the privacy and policy of institutions and individuals alike, which means avoiding any means of intrusion without consent...I leave the definition of consent to Michael Sandel, whose class you might have taken during your undegrad years 🙂 Anyways, hope you are enjoying the muggy weather!

Considering the large proportion of people following this thread who have been rejected at this point, then considering that people on SDN tend to fare better than the average applicant, I would assume that at least half of all interviewees have been rejected at this point. So if you haven't gotten any mail yet, your odds have probably doubled. It sounds like no waitlists have arrived yet, but it sounds like Harvard waitlists very few people so that might be a small factor at this point. I am definitely thinking that no news is a very good thing at this point. However, I will be sweating bullets tomorrow at the mailbox, even though I'm much closer than the west coast, just because it's entirely possible that a letter could have taken an extra day to get through my campus mail system. What about postmarks? Are they all 3/10 so far? I wonder if waitlists will be next, followed by acceptances.
I definitely think the idea of Harvard to send bad news first is a good idea though because the "I hope I don't have mail from Harvard today!" feeling is much easier to deal with than the "I hope I have mail from school X!" feeling that you get when you know acceptances went out first. This way, you know that no news is good news, but at least if you do get bad news, you have resolution and finality instead of just an empty mailbox and a bad feeling that your waitlist/rejection is coming in a few days. I would definitely rather get bad news than get no news and know that it means bad news is coming but still have to hope that it might be good news.
And if it seems like I'm rambling, I also checked my mailbox 6 times today.

What do you say we meet half-way between CO and CA in Vegas for some good wholesome rejection-get-****ed-up time? Eh JayQuah? Eh?JayQuah said:This thread has been fun. I felt like we've really bonded. Through the laughs. The tears. The nervousness and the heartbreak. The blind and pure hope, the agonizing defeat...
I am ashamed that I was ever THIS connected to any one school. But its time to move on:
REJECTION, Colorado.
JayQuah has left the building.

Wahina said:There's a strange dynamic to this thread because I don't think that anyone is hoping the other people get rejected so that we will have a better chance. And the people who get rejected aren't really bitter because they already have great acceptances. I know I won't be bitter tomorrow, and I'll be rooting for everyone else either way. I think I'll just be kind of sad if it's not longer a possibility.
