hey guys, lurker here, 5 rejections, still waiting on IVs

AMG, mid univ program, avg boards, some publications/research, $200,000 in student loans

Being in late Janaury, some programs still has not sent out invites (I remember for a couple of community programs the PDs called in March and said they just sent out invites)... however, if people have applied to a good amount of programs and has not gotten invites by next month(say more than 30, and not only to competitive programs but a good variety), i recommend considering starting more research projects while going through the application process. Too many people have unexpectedly not matched and find out in June that they only have another 3 months to improve their credentials for the next application year. Letters (eg. finding people to do research with), publications (whether starting research or finishing off), and future direction (say commiting to one year of full time research) can all make a difference... good luck everyone...

Got an invite from University of Illinois Chicago today via email
Dates in Feb, March and 1 date in April

so far:

👎 Fox Chase, Northwestern
👍 St. Vincent's

waiting on like 20 others

Hi

Received a invite from washU st louis by snail mail. I am hearing very diverse views about the program. I heard a 1st year fellow resigned from the program last year. It is a very malignant program I heard... can anyone please shed some light on this. Is this true?? I know washU is highly regarded in other specialities-- cards/GI. How is the oncology program?

appreciate any input...

thanks

Hi there just heard from Tulane regarding IV. Can anyone tell me some more about the program, as previous threads mention that the program is downsizing as major reasearchers have left and some more are leaving. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Northwestern reject/waiting list (we'll keep your file open in case of cancellations)

anyone else know if this is a standard NW rejection or an actual wait list?

I've now been on 2 interviews and it hasn't been too bad. Good luck everyone!

So for those of you who have interviewed, what kind of questions do they generally ask? Is it laid back like residency interviewes or do they try to grill you? If you did some research do they really try to go in depth about what you did?

I would definitely know your career goals; it seems to be a recurring question. On the positive side, (dont forget) programs want to sell you too so they will spend sometime telling you about their program, ect.

PS: There are more interviews to be offered in the coming weeks; I hope EVERYONE gets offers. I wish everybody here the best.

Hey guys do you have any idea how the Tulane prog ranks since you are already doing fellowship. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know about Cleveland Clinic? They are not part of NCI but seems to have high reputation.
Are they good??:scared:

Like I said it is very reputed in ther specialities.. but hav'nt heard much about the onc program.. I do know for sure that a fellow resigned from the program last year. I am a little apprehensive about the program from what I heard, i could be wrong. We will find out during the interview. Do you think it is OK to ask the current fellows about why the fellow quit???

I think we should put it in a very nice way if we do ..like for eg., if they have any concerns etc. Like you said, we will get a fair idea once we meet the fellows and the faculty. Good luck 🙂

Thanks mrsmdphd

UCLA and Tulane by e-mail!

I'm a Wash U resident so here is some insider info. Yes, one of the first year fellows quit for "personal reasons" and the general consensus was that it was because the program's workload is thought to be high (this was the thought for a while but I don't know how it compares to other programs). The program has taken a lot of positive steps though since then and has eliminated a lot of home call. My thoughts are that exactly because that fellow quit, this is the right time to come to Wash U because they are trying to be "softer" on fellows. You can't argue with the reputation of the hospital as a whole and Siteman Cancer center seems to be growing....

Just wanted to confirm from those who are getting IVs, is ERAS down for some updates, so are you guys getting IVs via e-mail or from ERAS?
Thanks

I think though ERAS is down, their forwarding system still works. my IVs and rejs came from ERAS to my email account. Hope this helps.
