Heme/Onc Fellowship Application Thread Part 2 - 2007-2008 cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ditto for Yale Onc... Thus far Penn state has sent 3 notices on application deadline via ERAS... seems like they have just started to review applications

Congrats to all recent interviews! yeah!

Just some random info- just heard that 2 programs independent of each other in different regions of the US each got hit with a ton of applicants, so it's taking them awhile to go through the pile. I guess kind of good news and bad news (and maybe not any kind of new news for some folks)- good that there's a reason (of course beyond all of our other logic) for the delay from programs (yes, i know logically it's still early Jan, but damn it, i want more phone calls/ERAS good e-mails!); bad that there are a lot of applications (maybe more than last year) floating around out there. :scared:

as expected....3 rejs so far....MDACC, DFCI and NCI....

5 ints and 3 rejs.....rejs catching up.....GL guys....

rejection from MD Anderson....it hurts

How did guys get the rejection from MDACC
personal email or snail mail?

I have applied to 17 programs around the country and no answer yet. I am trying not to panic but ... Do you think that there is any correlation between the date your application was available for the programs and the order in which our applications are evaluated?
GL to everybody and congrats to those w/ invites allready!

51 applications. 1 rejection from fox chase. still waiting from all the rest.
hoping for some interviews.

I applied on Dec. 17th to 52 programs. Got 4 interviews and 2 rejections so far.😀

Hi Baron77- good question. I also applied to 16 programs (LOR #4 isn't even in yet) and have not heard back from any. I hope it's due to large vol of applicants...

I was told that a significant part of people posting here, get interviews and ultimately match. I have been visiting the forum for weeks w/o any posts. One day after my 1st post here, I've got my 1st invite: NHLBI (NCI) by ERAS/e-mail at midnight.
GL and keep them coming...

1st interview via phone/email from Thomas Jefferson. Anxious times! Hope I get a some more. GC holder.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. Due to family constraints,I've applied to 5 programs only that too in Chicago!!!!!! Pls tell me they give out calls...

😕Still nothing........I have to stop neurotically checking my email every hour.

Hello everyone, I had applied last year and went to a couple interviews ending up with no match. I reapplied this year and 1st interview came today.

I have a question and hope somebody can explain: Somebody suggested me to avoid those programs where I interviewed last year because seems they didn't rank me high last year--this year will be the same. I am not sure ...

All of you fellows anybody same shoes as I am?

by email....interviewing in feb and march....GL

I don't think the logic makes a lot of sense, unless during the interview they really disliked you...
First, what about the programs who didnt interview the first time around, at least the programs who gave the interviews liked you enough... second, I think it depends how much your application has changed (eg. publication, letters, future plans)
Thus far I have gotten two invites from places I interviewed at last year... hopefully more of them are coming!

coolheme

I applied to 20 programs and so far got 1 invitation from Northwestern and 1 rejection from MD Anderson. 🙄 I'm thinking of applying to a couple more middle-of-the-road programs that have deadlines later this year just to be safe. Is it too late? They would know I certified my CAF back in December. Thanks!

Word of advice for those of you without any fingernails left due to waiting to hear news from programs. Be patient and don't freak out because there are a handful of posters who have interviews. This is not a comment on your suitability to enter fellowship. Plain and simple - programs have several hundred applicants - all who are well credentialed with great letters etc. It's a mammoth task to sort through it all and invite the best (or presumably best) to interview. Sit tight, relax and let the process take its course. Most of us will be pleasantly greeted with interviews. And for those who don't get one this time around - don't be discouraged and never quit if this is your dream. Best wishes and God bless.

Rochester sent out a notice that they will start reviewing applications starting in mid-Feb... Northwestern also sent out a notice on application status in RPMSG form, which I cannot open... likely a rejection haha.. definitely seems like more programs are reviewing their applications later in the year now, since we are in year 3 of match and programs see no reason to interview people in Janaury given match is in June... hang in there everyone...

First rejection from Northwestern, they are very professional, early review of applications, even sent a hidden file form in the rejection email... two thumbs up!

Interview from GW was given out today. Interviews every Wednesday from the end of January until the end of April.

79 applications. No news yet. Called all the places listed in this forum, that have sent out invites. All they say, is that they are still considering applications. Vague answers.

I have heard people not matching even if they have 6 interviews. :scared:

Thanks Capatin. I have gotten only the interviews that I have posted earlier....have 6 in total....hoping to get some more to feel confident about matching somewhere....Will have to wait looks like.....news is coming slow since the last 2 weeks....GL everyone....

Last year I tried to call a few places and was told I was on the B list for interviews if I havn't already received a rejection... and only if someone cancels their interview that I would be considered... again most of the programs did not even send out a formal rejection letter...

On the other hand, I think this forum is definitely credible, most of the places our had members mentioned, me and my colleagues in my program had heard a response from... keep posting guys!!

Docwa- thank you for doing this. i kind of considered doing this, but wasn't sure.
