What's been your highest practice score on a full-length test thus far?

hah.....I told my pre-med advisor I got a 35 on a practice test and he told me to apply to Harvard....silly him (says I after checking out mdapps and seeing all the 36+ people not getting accepted there)

Honestly, I don't want to go to Harvard - I even have serious doubts about Southwestern and Baylor. I don't do well in competitive environments (I do do well in hard environments because I like to compete against one person, ME).

I would probably post some stupid thread about "Help - I can't decided between Baylor with a full ride and UTMB!! What do I do?" and then proceed to get flamed.

(To anyone about to flame me now: No I don't think I'll get a full ride to Baylor. It's a joke)

Ok first off, reading the rest of these posts, I'll say I apologize as well. However, please understand that sometimes posts here can come off the wrong way and your original posts did so to many a people. That is why all got on their defense.

That said, I know many people at my uni who would never even dare to post but who will freely lurk these forums. Several didn't post their 26-29 range scores even after they were accepted to medical school. Some people just get really on the defense about talking about such things because they don't feel comfortable sharing their numbers even when they get their acceptance.

This is why SDN doesn't tend to see a lot more of the non 33+ scores.


As per the gifted students hanging out in these parts. I think a lot of students come out here because many times they feel more comfortable sharing their concerns on an anonymous forum then they do with talking with people in their real lives. Other people I know come on here because there are not many people at the uni that they could relate to, such as some of the nontrads that I know. Its just that SDN often serves as a place for applicants to voice their concerns and still remain anonymity if they so choose. The other end of the spectra is true too. Many of the posters I've talked to through the past cycle have actually met on the interview trail and through 2nd looks. For those people, this served as a way to meet other applicants through the cycle.


At least that has been my experience.

i totally agree with you 👍 ... for me at least, i cant talk to anyone about how im doing except my family... and you want to be able to talk to other ppl who are going through the same thing. you cant do this with your friends because lets admit it, if you are doing really well, they may be happy for you but they also think you're bragging. i only got on this because i thought its anonymous so no one knows who's who and it really doesnt matter, so i can talk freely. anyway, everyone's been great so far.... i think we're all going to get pretty close as we start shifting to the "pre-allopathic" forum to talk about applying in the summer 😉 so lets all be civil 😀

this thread just happened to catch my eye and i thought i'd spread on some words of encouragement to y'all that are in the prime of your life 😀 ahhh, college....

currently in my last yr of anesthesia residency at emory. i took the kaplan rvw course for the MCAT about a decade ago. i would always get 20-23 on those saturday tests. then i crammed on thursday & friday before the real thing and scored a 34.

so for all those people who are not posting and feeling low because everybody else is getting astronomical scores, fear not - you WILL do well 😀

But I'm a very quiet person in class, and I never talk about my grades on exams. It feels different here - I like the anonymity. I've liked that I can talk about my scores on the exams and don't have to hide it for fear of making other people feel badly. If it makes them feel bad, they can just go ahead and assume I am lying and feel better about it. 😉

Also as a non-traditional student, I don't have many people to talk to about this stressful process. I haven't taken classes since last May (took this year off when my daughter was born - minus MCAT studying which I can do from home) and I think my husband, mom, and sister are tired of hearing about MCAT/medical school related things.

Hey, that very much describes me too. I do my own thing with regards to grades and exams, and most of my peers don't know my scores. It doesn't seem that the pre-meds at my school discuss their practice test scores very much anyway....or at least that's how it seems like to me because I exiled myself this semester I don't feel it's worth boasting scores...because there's always gonna be someone who did better than you. I like to just do what I can and move on.

What do you expect me to say? That I'm disappointed in myself that I haven't broken 40 on a practice test yet? Of course not! Heck, yeah I'm proud of the scores I am getting. I have frankly worked my $&# off studying for this exam and it is paying off.

I only mentioned the fact that I'm one of those 35+ people in the poll to sarcastically add a note to my post explaining the non-normal distribution of the scores to this poll. Don't even bother reading my post and think "oh yeah, this person has a degree in statistics and actually knows what she is talking about" because I'm automatically a liar since I'm doing well on the practice tests.

I took the 7R and 9R before that, and I achieved a 41 and a 42 respectively. I think I'm maintaining a very successful plateau, and I would be extremely suprised if my score dropped below a 40 (especially given that my FIRST practice test score was a 38, before I had even begun to look over the material).

That's why I voted that my score was in the highest range. I'm sorry if it offends some people, but I just had to give an honest explanation. With my qualifications (will be posted on mdapplicant.com as soon as I get my final MCAT score), I deserve to go to any top med school, and my MCAT scores just reflect that. I hope to see some of you at Harvard! Especially you, oxeye.

I have to work that hard because I think it's not worth living if I make anything less. i wish i was doing it just for the money 🙄 no ... i actually want to be a doctor... haha.... why dont you go into acting or something and make a few million a year... you have a seriously messed up view on life.... there's a lot more to it than money... you'll find this out when it's too late...

Good point - medicine is not a good choice if you are just in it for the money. There are a lot of other careers where you can make a lot more money by putting in a lot less effort.
