I know this is an unimportant topic, but do doctors/nurses/etc. really hook up with each other like on shows such as Grey's Anatomy and ER -- or is this Hollywood fantasy?

It certainly happens, but not in the kind of percentages shown on the show. Hospitals tend to frown on residents hooking up with their attendings and in these days of sexual harrassment concerns, wouldn't take it as lightly as on the show either.

I work as a CNA at a pretty big hospital, and I've probably hooked up with 7-8 docs, including a couple surgeons. A few nurses too, but I try to stay away from that, as I work with them directly... kinda complicates things. Especially when they have husbands and kids. It's pretty hot to do it in a patient bed when you're on shift though. That, and the janitor's closet. If anything, ER and Grey's Anatomy understate the amount of incest among healthcare professionals. Lesbian nurse orgies in the shower are normal, and not just dreams like George had. You will probably sleep with 30+ healthcare professionals, and have at least 4 or 5 threesomes by the time you're done with medical school if you play your cards right.

this is obviously large amounts of sarcasm, but in my head ill pretend its totally 100% truth

Not sarcasm. If you don't bag 10 healthcare professionals during your first overnight call, you will forever be known as a slacker.

Did anyone see 20/20 last night on ABC? They actually talked about this...it was called "The Anatomy of Grey's Anatomy"...they said its a rarity 🙁

There is a lot of tension that results after sex with someone who you are not intimate with. People know that. We don't like tension. So we avoid sex with people who will ultimately lead us into tense situations.. TV shows often ignore that aspect, painting a picture of humans with simple "on" or "off" switches with respect to sexual desire.

Some days I am biting my fist because the nurses are so hot and the scrubs are *essentially* see-through because the panty line is clearly visible- I don't hit on those types though because they expect, enjoy, and almost need it. Instead I hit on the cute but shy radiology technician because she seems nicer and not so attention-needy and very much has a lot to offer 🙂 sometimes the quiet ones have the most meaning behind their eyes, its just a matter of getting them to look up..

Law2Doc's got it right. I'm not a student until August, but after twenty years in hospitals I can tell you that behavior on Grey's Anatomy that results in a televised slap on the wrist would, in a hospital in the real world, get you kicked to the curb and possibly cost you your residency position. Hook-ups are fine if you don't get caught, but hospitals are rather sensitive about inappropriate sexual behavior - best to make your conquests off-duty and off the hospital campus. Both hospitals and residency programs take an extremely dim view of harrassment - so I'd be sure any amorous advances are welcome.

Or you could bag 'em both at the same time in the nurses shower room. When you have an MD you should be hittin' and quittin' all that and more. I'm just a CNA right now and I've bagged half the staff at my hospital... surprisingly, mostly docs. Orgies are easy as pie to setup too, especially on night shift. The "naughty night shift" nurses are beggin' for it everyday. One time, two night shift nurses walked passed me in the middle of the hallway and just grabbed my you-know-what. That's the reality of healthcare, and you better get used to it. ER and Grey's Anatomy are TRYING to educate the public, but they choose to ignore it and pass it off as fantasy. And those shows are nothing compared to what happens in the real world. If you aren't prepared for multiple daily sexual advances from all walks of healthcare personnel, you'd better watch your back. Or... your front.

Also, don't hook up with you patients. You laugh, but it does happen. Psychology Today ran a story of a shrink who married his borderline patient. She later attempted suicide and they got divorced.

We have already had a few students in my class hookup with either other people in our class or students in other classes. It usually causes nothing but drama. Do yourself a favor and don't do it.

Bag 'em all. That's what healthcare is all about... Grey's Anatomy. Oh yea, and every surgical resident is hot, and every nurse and doctor is hot too. There are absolutely no ugly un-horny people in healthcare. Just watch Grey's Anatomy. It's a fact. You will probably be boning more than you work. Take my word for it. I get paid to get it on with hospital staff every week. My boss doesn't care either... 'cause I'm doin' her too. That's the life of a healthcare worker. Better get used to it.

Brings up a very important point. Lest we forget, MOST PEOPLE ARE UGLY. Attendings that are old as hell, nurses that are morbidly obese, residents who really should wear bags over their heads. These are the kind of people I've seen working in hospitals...do you really want to sleep with them?

Yes, so obviously my previous posts were full of sarcasm. To be honest, in my 2yrs working on an acute care medical unit, I've only heard of one "hook-up" between staff in the same department (which was really stupid and caused a lot of tension, and the manager forbade them from working together), and one between two people in different departments (which seemed to be fine, and they're still happily dating). Now, if I actually saw a hot girl my age (24yrs old) where I work, it would be like seeing an oasis in the desert. That's reality... not Grey's Anatomy. 😎

This thread is hilarious.

There's a surgeon here nicknamed Dr.Austin... Austin Powers. Hospital pimps do exist, no doubt about it.

Yes. This is why there is such a high prevalence of STD's, unwanted pregnancy, and divorce in the medical community.

Join right in if that's your thing!

Most nurses will hook up with anyone --> paramedics, doctors, techs, etc....

I fully plan to be hitting on every male nurse on the hospital campus when I get to med school. I will be the woman-pimp.

Never date anyone from radiology...they can see right through you, LOL! I have, however, done some darkroom groping.

There was this moderately attractive young girl that worked in the outpatient clinics around here. She hooked up with an attending and blabbed about it on office email. HR picked up on it... big trouble. The guy suffered a widespread loss of respect at work. As far as home life, he ended up leaving his wife and she (the girl) moved in. The rumor among the staff was that he only had one testicle. What does that have to do with the story, you ask? Well, I think it gives it more color. I'd be curious to see if they are still together. That was a few years ago.

whoa, db that's a sad story. Not worth the heartache. 🙁

Haha the one testacle bit was quite entertaining, however.

Shaved heads are fine (I'm not the only one who thinks so; during the height of Star Trek TNG Patrick Stewart even got voted hottest male on TV), unless it's symbolic of some political belief (hari krishna, skinhead, etc).

Why, you work where I'm going? 😛

Since you're in Asia I guess it doesn't matter. 🙁

Shaved heads and cops (NYPD baby!)... 😍
Off the chain!

You and I have probably already hooked up then. That's what healthcare is all about people. I nominate this as "best thread ever".

I think its been funny to watch my classmates hook-up.

Besides it seems to work for some people, the third year class has couples getting engaged all over the place.

My classmates normally don't do this in public.....

except for that one time in the club.

On a typical 100 person nursing staff, there will be a couple of very attractive young women, 7 or 8 cute ones, and then 10 or so attractive MILFs. So that's a solid 20%, and higher if you don't mind slightly chubbier women. I remember this one flirty nurse who would arch her back forward and you could see her thong.....

Dashed dreams. So sad.

Lmao you had to have been searching for this thread, no other explanation for a 12 year necrobump. Caught red handed

Right, and clearly no one else thinks of hooking up other than someone initiating a necrobump.

At my institution, I personally know a resident that "hooked up" (i.e., had a sexual relationship with) an attending. Residents and nurses date not terribly uncommonly.

It happens.

At my institution I have seen Medical Students, Residents, Pharmacists, Nurses, et al on hookup Apps (e.g. Grindr) and it's somewhat disappointing. Aside from the fact their profiles scream "Physician", "Doctor", wearing green scrubs or a stethoscope around their neck, how they appear on their public photo App is quite different than how I know them to appear in real life.

Yes, all medical professionals should be abstain from any physical contact with another human being, and heaven forbid if they let loose once in a while.

Epic necrobump. This couch bread crust is 12 years old. Threads more than a year old should be archived like reddit. Searchable but locked.
