My friend told me most 2 is recommended but you only need one, so I planned my schedule with only one in mind. Now that I'm looking at applying, I saw that Loma Linda requires 2. Is two standard? I could spend another quarter taking it, but I would much rather not as I'm done with all my courses needed to graduate.

Thanks!

I think whoever told you that might of meant one semester is required and two is recommended.

Most schools require only 4 quarter units of Biochem, but some schools may require 4 semester units, which is more than 4 quarter units and thus you would have to take two quarters (or two classes) to meet this prereq. Check the admission requirements for the school you intend to apply.

Personally, I couldn't apply to several schools, because I only took 4 quarter units of Biochem.😎

Good luck

Hey there, I had the same question when I was applying last year. As a student from UCI, there's only one quarter of Biochem that a non-biochem major could take, and Loma Linda being my top choice, I was really concerned about this. After even enrolling in a entire semester long biochem class that I didn't even need to take, and tons and TONS of phone tag with Loma Linda, it turns out that they count Molecular Biology as the second quarter of Biochemistry. At UCI Bio98 (Biochem) and Bio 99 (Molec Bio) were part of the lower division core classes - I'm not sure how it is at UCLA, but I think it'd be something similar. All of the other schools I applied to that required 6 quarter units of biochem never really had any problem with it, so I'm guessing it's similar across the board to Loma Linda.

So in conclusion, 2 quarters of Biochem can equal 1 quarter of Biochem, 1 quarter of Molecular Bio.

VIC thanks!!! I am in the same exact situation. I go to UCI too lol. I was so angry at that situation. Our biochem course is a normal semester course squeezed into a four unit course. So your 100% positive we don't need another quarter for biochem right?

Also did anyone skip general bio (UCI bio 93 and 94 with AP?) I was wondering if schools require you to take these general biology classes even though I have a degree in Biological sciences meaning i took a bunch of upper division courses in biology already. I skipped those courses because i came in to UCI as a BME major.

Molecular bio! Of all things haha. Thanks so much. Now I can graduate in peace

(Though... our molec bio is lower div, and our biochem upper div. Should be fine still though right?)

Some schools dont require any biochem, thank goodness.

Biochem and mol bio at UCI were both lower div.
