How much of a factor is attractiveness in admission? [Conspiracy]

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Didn't cut my hair and style it first interview = waitlisted.
Style + cut my hair second = acceptance

But how often are 2 people that equal?

Compare an undergrad business or arts class to engineering/sciences/professional programs. It's not even close.
The vast majority of businessmen and businesswomen or lawyers or docs/dentists/etc. are generic average looking people. You'll find more attractive cashiers on a grocery store trip than you in an upper class neighborhood.
Provide a source for any of your claims.

The halo effect. You guys were supposed to learn this for the MCAT come on. I'm at least an 9.435/10 and I am 1/1 for II's.

n=1 though sdn n=1

Attractiveness is subjective.

Also you can stop trying to convince everyone looks don't matter. They do. In everything. To tell yourself otherwise is delusional
But I already said they matter a lot lol. My point was that they matter largely for attracting the opposite sex (something males like to deny) vs. things like this.

Why else would adcoms ask for you to include a picture in your application???????

Read up on the Halo Effect. Humans are not objective creatures- being attractive makes everything you do look better, that's just life. It isn't that adcoms do this consciously, it is just that our subconscious minds perceive things done by attractive people to be less faulty or just plain better than something done by an unattractive person.

Nope. You're wrong. As everyone else has already said, look up the halo effect. Expand your mind, buddy.

I'm well aware of the halo effect. It's why guys or girls who get lots of compliments on their social media pics are seen as being really hot whereas they may only be a bit above average.

Why are you so attached to this just being about sexual attraction? Seriously. Just stop. Looks are very important and they subconsciously sway you during every interview. Some people tend to try and punish people for their attractiveness too. That's also a thing that maybe you're doing? It's ok if you're not attractive, brosef. Looks aren't everything. They just count for a hell of a lot. But honestly, now you're just starting to seem bitter because you're not hot.

lol I used to model when I was a premed.
If looks mattered as much as you say in the professional world then we wouldn't have such a big gap in attractiveness when comparing management level jobs.

Here's what I don't understand. Are you saying that a reasonably intelligent/talented 8-9/10 male or female will have a much easier time with everything in life? If so I 100% agree.
Or are you saying that being a 6/10 gives you a much easier time than an average 5/10? I definitely do not agree with that.

The people who fall into the first category are not that common by definition. They're in the top few % of attractiveness in society. But people who are a bit above average in looks are much more common and that small visual advantage will not sway an interviewer's admissions decision.

I modeled as well dude I have a chiseled eight pack with a jaw bone like zeus. I got paid 500k a year but decided meh to that I just wanna be a doc so ya. Usually adcoms ask to see my stomach and that gets me my acceptances.

/sarcasm

Idk how else to get it across to you. More attractive people are perceived to be better, subconciously. You are kidding yourself if you think two people the same on paper one a 3/10 and the other a 9/10, same skills and everything, they are going to take that 3/10.

It's a cruel cruel world brooski and were all just swimming in it.

You're confusing the general halo effect with the specific studies we were referring to in regard to attractiveness. An attractive person has everything they do viewed more positively by both sexes, as it isn't about being personally attracted to the person, it is about how attraction signals fitness, which correlates in our subconscious minds with leadership and intelligence.
