DUI is premeditated in the fact you didn't have a plan to get yourself home if you knew you were going out. Also, being drunk impairs judgement, but even being impaired shouldn't impair your judgement to drive. I think that's more of an excuse than the reality of the situation.
So let me get this straight. If you are drunk, then your judgement is impaired for all things except for realizing your ability to drive -- that's the one part of your brain that is alcohol-proof, right?
Alcohol lowers inhibitions and makes you make bad choices. Unless you are a one-and-done guy, if you keep drinking eventually you will become impaired and do something stupid. That's the reality. Congratulations on being responsible though -- many people aren't and purposefully set out to get drunk. Hell, med school actually encouraged this with their end-of-preclinicals party where nearly everyone was ****faced after going there with that intention. But that's fine right -- the only way you can hurt yourself or anybody else while drunk is driving, right? Come on.
