Hi - for anyone who has applied to Illinois I have a few questions for you about the interview process...

So they all happen on the same day? How does that happen? What time does it happen, or is it a whole day affair?

Instead of studying for finals, yesterday I bought tickets to Chicago for the weekend of the interview (and I'm planning to hijack/borrow a car or take the train down to Urbana) - best case scenario I have a fun filled weekend with my friend in Chicago and an interview on Monday, worst case scenario I just have a fun filled three day weekend in Chicago.

Yeah, they interview everyone on the same day and also give tours. How they pull it off, I have no idea. It seems to be an all day thing for everyone. Also, they ask behavioral questions and they ask everyone the same ones for the first part of the interview, so be sure to study last year's interview feedback!

It was a rather exhausting day. They give you an interview time, but you also come in the morning for a presentation about financial aid, the way they select the class, and information about the tablet PC. It was held in a room that did not have enough seats for all the extra people (lots of parents seemed to be there). I ended up having to stand for a very long time in heels. Then they give a tour (again, with the heels). I seriously recommend bringing comfortable shoes for everything but the interview--I know I wish I had.

Then I went back to my hotel for a couple of hours (my interview was late afternoon) and studied my application, my supplemental essays, and any veterinary news of interest.

When I returned for the interview, I sat outside a room until they called me in. There were three people on the interview team--a student, a professor, and a local veterinarian. They ask questions without ever having seen your application. They will know absolutely nothing about you. They ask behavioral questions and then rate your answers. After the interview (which lasts somewhere around 20 minutes), I left. They compile their scores and give you an overall interview score, that you will never see.

A blizzard hit Champaigne that day, so my family and I were stuck in our hotel for almost 5 days. Be prepared for COLD.
