Any opinion about IM programs in Massachusetts (outside of 6 big like MGH, BWH, BIDMC, BU, TUFT/NEMC, U. mass)?

Many people go to these other hospitals for IM prelim or TY so just wondering any good or bad about other hospitals like Cambridge, Mt. Auburn, St. Elizabeth, Lahey clinic, Caritas Carney etc plus others outside of Boston? Scutwork reviews are quite old.

I would say St. E's and Lahey Clinic are still great programs. I'd put them after Tufts and BU, maybe on the same level as UMass. Lahey and St E's have strong affiliations with Tufts MC. Both have rotating medical students from Tufts so they still have an academic feel. The attendings are very friendly and approachable at these places.

St. E's has one of the youngest chiefs of cardiac surgery in the country. They have one of the best colorectal surgeons in Boston (supposedly MGH residents have been known to come and observe him). Not to mention, right now they have what many would say is the best robotic urologist in the world. St. E's is overshadowed by the other programs in the area, but if it were anywhere else it would be much better known. They are spending a lot of money on improving the place and just built an awesome new ED.

Lahey Clinic has great liver transplant and pretty good cardiology. I haven't been there at all.

Also, I forgot to mention Baystate, I hear they have a great computer system. And if you are in lower Vermont/lower New Hampshire/ or anywhere from western MA, it is the best medical center where all patients are flown. One of the busiest EDs in MA and is known for a good Ob/Gyn dept.

Hope this helps

Outside of Boston you have Baystate Medical Center in Springfield MA. 660 bed tertiary hospital which is affiliated with Tuft Medical School. 3rd year medical students apply to do their entire 3rd year in this hospital. As mentioned above any sick patient from Western Massachussets, northern area of CT and souther part of Vermont can be transfer to Baystate Medical Center.

the hospial right now is under construction to expand bed capacity to 750 (they are adding a new 7 floor building). And also as mentioned above awesome computer system.

And best of all its the busiest ED of the entire state of MA with a very indigent population so you will see everything.

Thanks guys:

Cambridge hospital although in the city, but seems like very cush program and very popular among Harvard grads pursuing TY in that hospital. I looked at curriculum and it seems like they don't have enough ICU or CCU exposure?
