Has anyone here ever had the experience of interviewing with an interviewer or two who seemed completely indifferent and expressed little to no emotion or offered any feedback during the process? i recently had an interview like this at NSU even though I interacted well, was prepared to discuss and explain myself, and have obtained a 3.93 gpa, decent PCAT score, extracurricular/pharmacy experiences, etc... I had my interview last week, and wow, I could have sworn i was in for 10-15 minutes...it went so quickly and the interviewers asked me the most basic questions and nothing out of the ordinary or even lots of questions. I left with my tail between my legs. 👎

i had a group interview at touro way back in october...and the 2 interviewers looked SO bored.
it seemed pretty silly for us to be all enthusiastic and motivated while the interviewers sat there w/ blank stares (one of them even yawned.)

i mean, i don't know...they didn't even seem to have my pharmcas info available...they asked me bs preliminary questions such as "What high school did you attend?" and then jotted down some other stupid things. Do you think this indicates lack of interest or that they simply didn't feel a need to question me much because they felt i am a good candidate?

I know how you feel. I had those types of interviewers at UOP and UCSD. They were not smiling. They looked like they were trying to judge my every movement. I did not feel confident about what I said because they were unenthusiastic, hehe. Oh well, it happens; it's a good idea to train yourself to do a good interview even when the interviewers don't seem interested.

Don't worry. I think you're over-analyzing the situation and unnecessarily stressing! I understand though because I've been doing the same sort of thing, replaying my interview experience over and over but I'm trying to stop. Honestly, the fact that your interview was so short, I don't think it means anything besides it might just be the personality of the interviewer or he/she was having a bad day or feeling tired? It could be a million different things. Anyhow, I'm just happy my interviewer wasn't fiddling around on his PDA while interviewing me. I met someone who had that awful experience.

I had an interview for Dental School like that. It was at UF, so I went in prepared to deal with their dirty pool tactics. Anyway, they did not even look at me when I answered their questions, and looked around the room, at their watches, sighed, ect.

So after a few questions of this garbage nonsense, I said "excuse me, I would prefer if you looked at me when I answered your questions." After that there was a really uncomfortable pause and then they proceeded to ask questions and look at me for the rest of the interview. I ended up getting accepted but turned them down for my top choice. Bunch of dirty pool playing fistulas.

I've only had one interview so far. It was a phD and a 3rd year pharm student. The phD was asking all the questions, kind of unemotional, rattling them out and me answering the best I could. No side chat of any kind. What struck me as odd though was she wasn't writing anything down. She stared at me the whole time, kinda poker face, but no writing and I noticed her little notepad had pre-made rectangles where her notes should have gone after each typed question. Now the student, who wasn't allowed to ask me any questions, on the other hand, was writing notes feverishly. Not sure what to make of the whole experience, except to wait for my rejection or acceptance or perhaphs a wait list.

That's really confident of you Log. Perhaps that's what they were looking for: someone who actually spoke up about it, haha.

I had that experience at UOP. My student interviewer was stoic almost the whole time and it made it hard to find a connection with him. I tried my best to keep an intelligent conversation going but he left little feedback and I couldn't tell how I was doing.

I could maybe understand when faculty interviewers are indifferent and maybe rude, but I just can't understand when pharmacy students behave like that. I mean, they're students after all, and they were once in our shoes. That is just wrong.

I had my interview at Nova today and felt the SAME way!!! They showed NO interest in me whatsoever and then they kept looking at me like I was crazy!!! I think they do it on purpose. Let's see if we get in!

Haha wow thats pretty brave of you to say that. I could see that being pretty awkward.

But what is this "dirty pool" you keep mentioning?

They might not have had your pharmcas information. I know that my school does closed-file interviews, as in the faculty member does not have the whole file to look at before they interview the candidates.

I had an interview like this at both UCSD and UCSF. Straight face throughout the entire interview. They say the interview is like a conversation. Well, I'm the kind of person that needs feedback when I'm having a conversation. And by feedback I don't mean staring at 2 blank faces staring me down. But I guess at least I got some eye contact--seems to have been a problem for some of you.

Yeah, I had the same experience at UCSD. The difference is that my interviewer spent at about 5 minutes explaining to me that it is something she is required to do. She said she does not feel comfortable herself about this rule and told me not to be worrying. Both student and phrmacist/faculty member had "straight" faces and were not looking at me most of the time.

The bad thing is that by the end of an interview I guess they started to get tired of this and I could see her expression (and it was one of those "hmm, can not believe she is saying it,,, silly girl").

I guess you should not worry about it that much, because everyone has the same interview experience. Which means everyone might be doing a little worse that they ve expected.

Yea! I also remember being lectured at several times during my interview. One of my interviewers spent time lecturing me about clinical pharmacy--that it's not just pharmacists and doctors wearing long coats and doing rounds in hospitals, that it can be practiced in the community setting too. (Previous to that I had said that clinical pharmacy is practiced in the hospital). I also said something to piss off my other interviewer and she started lecturing me too. But that's stupid that they're required to not give you feedback during the interview.
