haha moskeeto, i have an empty decision box and its been 13-14 weeks
 
yeah i know xenon. i'm not holding my breath about hearing anything soon.
 
Nothing new for me either. I think we unknowns are basically on a waitlist, although whether it's the hold list or waitlist or another list is truly unknown. I don't believe them anymore when they say we'll hear in a couple weeks. I've only been hearing that, oh, just about forever.
 
it sorta is one of those things. we no we're not rejected, and we also know that we're not in, we r just in the same situation we were in september 2002. can u imagine?

i think it sorta is refreshing in a twisted way, especially for those who really need this one, but its only a matter of time when reality will take over.

hey nefertari, I don't think that last year UCLA had two different lists for the waitlist (1st and 2nd). Can someone check last year's thread? I think everyone who didn't get rejected post-interview was put on THE waitlist. Therefore I'm assuming that if Dr. barb was put on a waitlist this year, then she would have been put on the first priority rather than the second one, as a result she got in off the waitlist. Just my opinion, although I could be wrong.

As a side note. I've been talking to some med students from UCLA and one of them got in two years ago-OFF THE WAITLIST- on MAY 17th! so although the admissions office said we won't hear anything until June (that's what they told him too) WE JUST MIGHT! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

I'm pretty sure (although not certain) that there was only one waitlist last year. I don't know if it was ranked or if they drew numbers out of hat or what.
 
5:30 PM. UPS delivered an acceptance letter from David Geffen School of Medicine. Finally, after twenty billion years of waiting, the decision is final.
 
wow... so much activity since i last checked this thread. i dropped off figuring nothing would happen for us waitlisters for awhile. congrats, skeptic! maybe you'll have to change your name now. :laugh:
 
If Skeptic was waitlisted, does that mean that those of us who haven't heard since the interview are either rejected or waitlisted? It hardly makes sense to review waitlisters before going thru all interviewees.

Yeah, I'm not buying this line anymore either. A month ago I was told that I would hear something for sure by May 15th. That day has come and gone, and they're still sticking with their standard reply: "you'll probably hear in a couple of weeks." 🙄
 
Congrats Skeptic!!!! I guess you're officially the first to get removed from the waitlist. Who's next?😕
 
this month's acceptances were already sent. i wonder if this month is different tho in that may 15 is part of it. i hope like most ppl give up their places.

Just checked my status page and it says that a letter was sent on 5/16. Xenon, how do you know that all of this months acceptances were already sent? Not that I was expecting an outright acceptance, but it kind of sucks already knowing that I will be waitlisted or rejected before the letter even arrives. I had a terrible interview at UCLA and I knew right after it was over that I had no shot at getting an acceptance, but until I actually hear from them it's been nice dreaming about the possibility of going there. Well, I guess that dream will die in the very near future.

So what about the rest of you who hadn't heard anything yet? Have you status pages changed yet? I'm going to need some others to commiserate with should the news be as depressing as I expect it to be.

Also, it seems as though it will take about 2 weeks to receive the letter from the "letter sent" date on the status page. Is this about right?
 
Oh and skeptic, go ahead and strut you stuff on the waitlist movement thread....or I'll do it for you!!

Congrats...you deserve to bask in a bit of "acceptance to UCLA" glory!!

Still NO CHANGE for me. Did all you guys' statuses just change today, 5/19, to letter sent 5/16?

What country are you in anyways, Xenon? Just curious. And yes, please call and ask them what's up.
 
im in canada now.

5/16 for the change that happened today on the 19th.
 
Yeah, mystic, it changed today (5/19) to say that a letter was sent on 5/16. I called and asked how long it would take to get here (Northern California) and she said that all of the letters were actually mailed out today and should take 5-7 days to arrive.

I think Xenon is right in that when they send out a bunch of letters together they usually end up being waitlists for all those people. Oh well, I guess the best I can hope for is the 1st priority waitlist. *shrug*
 
I called and got the same response... this is soooo frustrating. Perhaps I will walk upstairs (I work at UCLA) and sit in the admissions office until they give me more info. :laugh:

Ok, I'm being a little compulsive and I've checked the status check site 3 times in the past hour to make sure they didn't forget to update my record or something. Yeah, I guess it's a good thing, Cipher and Moskeeto. I'm really curious as to what exactly they're thinking.

Soon I'll be at six months post-interview. Good god.
 
hey ppl. if we get 1st priority, we have decent chances. lets hope we do!

besides we can be picked off the list right after they sort out the may 15 responces.
 
good call, xenon. if you look at the profiles on mdapplicants.com of people accepted to UCLA already, you can see that they are very very strong candidates and for the most part, have been accepted to multiple high powered schools. you can even put sdn names to a lot of the profiles. 🙂 So there must've been a lot of declinations recently.
 
don't mean tosound pessimistic here but they haven't put anyobyd on the 1st priority on 4/30, why would they put people there on now? I think the 1st priority waitlist is already comprised of about 100 ppl. I predict these are hold letters.
 
i can't imagine that they're sending out all these priority waitlists at that same time. I don't know, maybe it is a mixed bag like they said, but i'm not feeling too confident about my chances. it would be nice to get a priority waitlist, but I smell a hold coming my way. good luck to everyone, let the waiting begin.
 
is a hold as good as a rejection? it's important for me to know this so i can write an intent letter to another school.
 
i'm in the same boat as all of you...letter sent 5/16. all we can do is speculate, so there is no point in agonizing. let's just keep our collective fingers crossed!
 
yeah BB, a hold is the same thing as a rejection. also, i don't know how good a letter of intent will be at this point to UCD. i talked with a person that said they don't take them seriously and if you wait longer than a week after your interview, it's too late because your file that will be reviewed is complete. but that said, it couldn't hurt either.
 
yeah, that sounds about right about UCD, moskeeto. on a tangent from UCLA business - when i interviewed at UCD, my faculty interviewer said that if there was anything I wanted to add that I forgot to mention at the interview, I should write him a note within a week because that's how long he would take to finish up my file. I didn't send anything, btw.
 
the hold letters were sent 4/30. i know that my file was taken out for review during that time. then when the letters were sent, they could reaccess my file to check for my letter. my only bet would be that they didnt put me on the hold thing. well we will find out sooner or later/
 
i'll get the letter tomorrow probably. XENON i hope that you're right. right now 1st priority sounds as good as acceptance lol

The woman I spoke with in the office today said that the 5/16 letters weren't actually mailed out until today. We'll all probably receive our letters late this week or early next week, I'm guessing.
 
yeah, how long did the hamsters in my experiment take? like a week to get up to norcal?
 
i live 15 min away from ucla. usps shoudn't be that slow.
 
Hey gang. Thanks for the support. It's extremely refreshing to know that in this entire chaos we call "The Process," we've got each others' backs. Just so you guys know, my letter was dated 5/14, as was the update change online. I only checked my status page after receiving the letter. Secondly, the letter arrived via UPS. It seems that, based on previous posts as well, that acceptances have a tendency to arrive via UPS from UCLA. I attend UCLA and live half a second from campus, and didn't recieve my wait list letter until eight business days. UCLA campus mail is way too slow. I hope this helps. Best of luck to everyone.
 
Do you have to be at your place when the USPS guy comes? or do they leave a note saying they'll come by again??

they'll prolly leave a note for you. it seems like this would be something that you'd have to sign for, but i could be wrong. god, thats a lot of us on that mailing list. the fact that skeptic had the letter mailed 5/14 really makes me think these are holds. sorry guys.

I don't know if you have to sign for UPS either. It does seem like they send out some acceptances each month before waitlist. In March, some people were accepted before the 3/14 crowd got waitlisted, in April, a few people were accepted on 4/23 before the 4/30 hold bunch, and perhaps this is the case again in May? Anyways, I don't know what to say, except just sit tight.
