Interviews yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ohio State and GW today. I also just cancelled 5 of my interview offers, because after the 2 I've been on, 10 is enough. There are still a couple I might cancel, but I am waiting on one program to see.

Applied to 23
Offered interviews at 22
Haven't heard from 1...

Just notified by UNC that they're way behind in invites because their residency coordinator had been gone on emergency leave.

Medical College of Georgia
U of Kentucky - all dates full (on waitlist for preferred date)
U of Illinois-Peoria

All within 24 hours of follow-up calls.

Haven't heard from them yet, Is the letter printed with gold leaf? Why so infamous?

Yea, yeah, what's the Christ letter like?

Apparently previous year's letters have detailed out your "stats" compared to their residents. Supposedly it reads something along the lines of "Your board score on the USMLE Step 1 exam was xxx while our residents average xxx. Your clinical grades averaged less than than all honors, while our residents average perfect grades. Therefore, we are sorry, but you do not meet our standards for interviewing..."

Just curious to know if they are using that format again this year.

Of course - having never applied before, the above information is second hand. Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see...

UMass - via e-mail and ERAS

This school has been on the board as interviewing for quite a while. My question is whether this far down their list is it wise to try and interview there. I will be canceling an earlier invite to another program to pick this one up. Is it risky to do that?

Add MCV and MetroHealth today... 😀

ucla harbor and irvine.....but with limited dates in december available only....

Case Western and UNC-Chapel Hill this week

I have to decide between the two of them and besides what I've read on their websites, I don't know about either of them.

Any advice from someone who knows either/both of these programs?

My list thus far:

Oregon HS
Michigan
Indiana
Case Western
NYU
NY Methodist
U Mass (via email and MC this week)
Yale (via email only today with limited dates)
Loma Linda
Stanford
UCSF-Fresno
UT-Southwestern
Johns Hopkins (via email and MC this week)
Brown (via email and MC this week)
Orlando (via email and MC this week)
Denver (via email and MC this week)
North Shore NY

I would like to trim this down to 13-14. I would appreciate any input from those of you who are currently in residencies and have seen or are at some of these programs (esp. denver, UT-SW, NY-Methodist, and North Shore).

Rejections:
Wake Forest
Highland
Maricopa

Penn State - Hershey.

Edit: Guess you can fly into Harrisburg, 15 miles away. They'll take copies for USMLE for now. My two concerns addressed...

I'm in a similarly irritating situation. Apparently Dean's offices sign an agreement that they will not provide anything except the Dean's Letter to any non-ERAS programs. All of my LORs are sitting in a single folder in that office, but they can't even be faxed to a non-ERAS program without violating the ERAS contract.

I am paying ERAS to distribute copies of my documents, not to keep my school from doing its job.😡

I posted about York on page 3 or 4 of this thread. I'm at Penn State and they said you can bring a photocopy of your Step score report instead of an official transcript. Email Beth Garrison at [email protected] to confirm.

Ok, just got an invite from Penn State - Hershey. 🙄

I'll have to request another USMLE transcript since they aren't in ERAS, which will most likely cost money. Couple that with the fact that travel to Hershey is a pain in the ass (No real local airport), and I'll probably be cancelling...

In other Pennsylvania news... I'm trying to decide if I should go to my York interview. If anyone has been there already can you give some pros and cons? Thanks...

I interviewed at York last year. It was nice, they put you up in a hotel and take you out to dinner (Ruby Tuesdays). The residents are super nice, and real down to earth people. The program is decent. Nothing really stands out but nothing was a real negative. I consequently ranked them around 6 or 7 out of 9 or 10. Good things about the program is they are probably the strongest of the programs at York Hospital, and real estate is dirt cheap. About an hour from Balto.

Sounds similar to St Luke's, which I actually kinda liked, but with more traffic. What's another interview, right?

If they're flexible with the USMLE stuff at Hershey, I'll go there, too...

Palmetto on Friday through snail mail.

Only you can trim your own list. Do it like this: Which programs do I know won't be in my top 5? Don't go to those interviews. Simple really. You're obviously a competitive candidate, its unlikely you'll go below 5, so why consider anything you know will go below that? If you think you're so open-minded that any of those could be in your top five, you need to have a little conversation with yourself and/or those who will have to move with you. 6-13 on your rank list will be those programs that you thought could possibly be in your top five, and now aren't. Be glad you've got that problem, many who read these pages don't.

I also applied to Case Western and UNC. I turned down the Case Western interview. UNC was one of two programs that didn't offer me an interview. Many consider it a "prize interview" on the trail, but obviously I haven't been there.......Its considered a solid program on all accounts.

irvine for several dates dec-feb 11

The most recent ones I've gotten are:

Beth Israel NY
Maricopa
UC Irvine (today)

So far, grand total of: 18 interview offers (3 of which I've declined), and 2 rejections. Waiting to hear from 2 more programs.

I'm going to have to eliminate some, but right now I'm in the mindset of doing as many as I can so I have more programs to compare. I'm sure this'll change as the interview season progresses and fatigue sets in.

South Florida by email today...

Look out Quinn! 😉

Umass yesterday by email. They have lots of dates. Does anyone know why?

Old ones:
UConn
Baystate
Buffalo
Stony brook
Rochester
York
Betlehem
Geissinger
North Shore
Newark
BIDMC
Thomas Jefferson
Morristown

Henry Ford today.

I got the Umass interview a couple weeks ago and was also suprised about all the dates still available. Not that I am complaining.

RnB I interviewed at UT-SW and am from texas. Feel free to send me a PM if you want some info. I don't want to clutter up the board. 🙂

Generalized, I am at St. Lukes in NYC. If you have questions, feel free. I also intervied at 10 in NYC (ended up cancelling 5 or six..) Its all become a blur.. but if you have questions about some of the NYC programs, feel fee to PM or post to me.

Best of luck! and take the money!!!!!! *g*

Just got Univ. of Maryland today with three dates left.
Better hurry and call now......

If anyone is holding out on Virginia, here is some info. A classmate of mine called today and "she said they said" they have mailed out all there invites and schedualed their interviews....she said she had not heard one way or another from them...so this might be a "we'll leave ya hangin' "program.

Late notice from Wake. Does anyone know what's up with applicants offered spots after being on the waitlist? I am very interested in that particular program but wonder if I'm already that far down on their list...?

Thanks for any feedback and "Happy Thanksgiving"!

Heard from Christiana a few days ago.

On the late offer question I still think the process is so random that you should not base your chances of getting into the program on when you get the invite. I know other people at my school with worse stats and rejections from places I got interviews at who got Christiana offers earlier. They have so many applications to look at it is somewhat of a crap shoot. If you think you might like the program why not take a shot and interview.

-P

Could you folks that have interview offers at hennepin post your stats? Just curious.

Looks like Louisville is sending out a new batch. Email and ERAS.

Believe it or not they're still coming in...East Carolina University today by email. Of course, they only had like one date! Hehehe

Still a few coming in:

Akron General
University of South Florida

Believe it or not, they are still coming. Albany and Drexel this week, by ERAS only. No email. I happened to find them one week late.

Jacksonville today via email...thanks a lot guys, just got back from a run to SC and NC. Oh well any info would be appreciated on this program. Thanks.

I ranked FL #3 on my ROL. Strong program, good reputation, decent amount of research. Very very very (did I say very?) busy ED, resident-run ED. Procedure heavy. Lots of work but you will know your shizzle-fizzle when you're done. JAX is an affordable city, too. Moonlighting opportunities.

Q, DO

I just recieved an invitation from UF (Jacksonville) as well. I just returned from Texas A&M. I am not totally sure as whether I should go to UF to interview since I imagine that I was on the bottom of their list if they are just now offering me an interview I have one more scheduled at Ressurection. Should I go to jacksonville or Ressurection or Both?

Unless you imagined yourself in FL, i would probably stick closer to the program that is easier to interview at (if you're in IN, prolly Res.). However, if you only have like 5 interviews, doing two more couldn't hurt.

Q, DO

I interviewed here at UF-JAX on THE LAST day last year and couldn't be happier. Especially with the beautiful weather in the 60s we've been having while I watch the northeast scraping their windshields every morning on the news. We work hard, but we play hard too.

Really? Interesting. Myself and another colleague interviewed in Dec. Feel free to post their initials.

I would never count out an interview day at the end of the seaoson as a "sure-lose." I know for a FACT that at my program, their ROL is open at this point, and it can change at every whim of each applicant session each week.

Bump for the '05 season. Y'all can see when programs tend to start offering interviews.

thanks buddy it will be useful to get a baseline 😀
