Interviews yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Got UVA today... they must be reading my mind.

Got Hopkins and Northwestern today. Waiting for UNC? Anyone??? Also anybody know whol comes up with what is a top EM program. Is there some list out there I have never seen??

U of I-Peoria......anyone got the info on this program?

Here are my interviews post-Dean's letter:

Stanford
Oregon Health and Sci Univ
Loma Linda
NYU
Univ of Maryland
Johns Hopkins
St. Luke's-Roosevelt

One rejection from Alameda Cty/Highland

All in the past 2 days!

Today via email and ERAS. 1st invite since the Dean's Letter...was beginning to worry. Good luck!

I am applying into EM and have heard from the following programs

Maine
Hennepin
Sinai
St Lukes (NY)
LIJ
U. Penn
Highland
Jacobi/Montie
Ford
Christiana
Pittsburgh

My question is this: I am AOA, 236 on the boards and have heard nothing from NYU or Carolinas, 2 schools I am very interested in. How do I interpret this? Does this mean I am not going to be interviewed by them (as many of you have received interviews). Do schools send out interviews to people who did aways at their sites 1st? Do I contact them regarding this or just sit on my hands and wait?

One week post-dean's letter and feeling a wee bit more dejected each day as one by one, programs to which I have applied but have not heard from are posted on this list. Oh well!

Odoreater--I feel your pain. Still waiting on many programs who have been on this list for what seems like ages!

NYU update: I called and their program director is out of the country until tomorrow. More decisions for interview will be made next week and there are many spots left!

I'll try to have more patience and keep fingers crossed. THanks for letting me vent! 😕

I emailed the PD of a program where I'm doing an away rotation and where I'm highly interested in going. Apparently he must not have known that I had scheduled an away rotation there in the coming months. The day after I wrote him an email, I got an interview invitation.

Don't be afraid to ask if it's where you want to go! So if you're getting worried, then be proactive.

Dear Odoreater,

I don't know why you haven't heard from Carolinas... I was offered an interview there this week and let me assure you, I am NOT AOA, nor are my board scores quite as high as yours. I don't know what voodoo magic goes into developing a "to be interviewed list." I would wait until late next week and give the programs a call. Most likely, you'll get the interviews. Keep the faith and your chin up!

Dwgs

P.S. There's a great research paper entitiled "Selection Criteria for Emergency Medicine Residency Applicants" linked on the SAEM website, Medical Student Section. The link is http://www.saem.org/inform/choose.htm. Click the line that is second from the bottom to open the article. It opens in acrobat.

Sorry Odoreater,

The link in the previous post didn't work. If you're interested in the article, go to:

1. www.saem.org
2. Under contents, select "Medical Student Section"
3. Under contents on next page, select "Choose EM Residency/Application process"
4. On the next page, select "Choosing an EM Residency/The Application Process."
5. Click on "Selection Criteria for EM Residents article" toward bottom of page.

Wow, that would have been much easier if the link would have worked!

Hope everyone enjoys the article.

I think it's as much luck as it is anything else. I think a lot of the PD's read your personal statement, your eval comments, etc. and look at how well you will fit into their program, with their residents, etc., as they look for your stellar achievements.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could trade interviews? E.g., I get an interview invitation from Program A, but really want to go to Program B, so I swap the interview with another applicant who really wants to go to Program A but didn't get an interview for them. Now that would be cool!

For those of you that recieved the ERAS message from IU before Deans letters were released stating that they would not send out interview invitation until Nov. 1, have you heard back from IU yet?
Basically if you recieved that message are you more likely to get an interview offer.
OR
Did those who did not get the message more likely to get rejected?

Having rotated there I will give you my opinion. Dr. Chisholm is very straightforward. I think that message meant exactly what it said. I don't think IU considers an application complete without the MSPE, and does not evaluate applicants until its release. I think that message was sent to all applicants and is no indication at all of status.

I do know they have sent out rejection letters, so I suppose in the absence of an interview offer - no news is good news...

ryanpj,

It appears (and I stress appears) that IU is NOT one that just mailed a big batch at once and are waiting to mail a big batch again....I, like you, was wondering why I had not heard from them after seeing many IU invites posted on here...but I did finally get an invitation the middle of last week. When I called to set up my date...almost all days were still open...and judging by there email invitation (two pages), they are very thorough and probably really take their time reading completely over apps and offer invites on a rolling type basis....and as FoughtFyr said, there have been a number of rejections from IU as well...so no news is still good news at this point....best of luck

This is what I know of MCG.

Recently changed from a 4 year to a 3 year program.

Their ED sees about 70K a year and is increasing by about 13% a year right now.

They have tremendous opportunities to be more than an ER doctor. They have people active with other aspects of emergency medicine. For example, they have an active international emergency medicine focus. They are active with Wilderness medicine and also with Disaster Medicine as they sponsor a Disaster Medicine Assistance Team. They are active with tactical EMS as their interim chair is very focused on this and some of their attendings and I even believe the residents train with the local SWAT team. In addition, they are very active with emergency medicine ultrasound as they offer a fellowship down there and have a separate section for US. The fellowship director is very well-respected in the field and is probably on the cutting edge of most of the research out there for emergency medicine ultrasound.

You have 23 offers, how many are you expecting to interview at?

I think around 12. When I initially applied I was VERY paranoid because my step one scores were kind of borderline so I applied to a bunch of places.

how long do they keep sending out invites? I applied somewhat late (late sept) and my last LOR writer didnt get off her PD rear and write my glowing page until last week. The interviews Ive got are at least ones I really wanted, but if their number doubled I could probably sleep at night, instead of checking my email and message center. do they quit after next week, or what?

Is it necessary to tell people you are AOA and got 236.? Could you just leave to self praise out of the post.😍 😍 😍 😍

Does anyone know much about St. Luke's Roosevelt? 😕

I have noticed that the last 2 offers that I have received via email/message center, today, Nov 10, had email dates of Friday Nov. 7 just wondering if there is a delay in the ERAS system?

not sure if someone has posted UMASS, if not, toss it in the mix

UCSF-Fresno today via email and message center. Stanford and Loma Linda end of last week via email and message center. It seems like it's been a slow few days compared to end of last week. What do you guys think? This whole process is nuts!😱

Just got one from USC/LA County...by phone...

My list so far

Mayo
SUNY Brooklyn
Brown
USC
Wash U
U Mississippi
GWU

Hoping for more!!

Good luck all!

My list so far...

Pre-Dean's letter:

Brown
Yale
Michigan
UConn
Christiana
UMass
Maine
MSU-Grand Rapids
MSU-Kalamazoo
East Carolina

Post Dean's letter:

Cincinatti and Stony Brook (both today)

Best of luck to everyone!

Add UT Southwestern - Dallas to the list.

By the way does anyone have any good info on UT-southwestern?

u of chicago by phone today.

Yeah, I got the same message from Wake. I know they have already started to interview, so is this a rejection in disguise, or what? Anyone remember from last year? Thanks.

Has anyone heard anything from Emory yet? How about MetroHealth/Case Western in Cleveland? This is so nerve wracking!!

i have heard from MetroHealth/Case Western....as for emory just the "we have your app and will review it after the deans letter" email a few weeks back.....

THis is a good one. Got my Interview Invite from Indiana today. Called them within 20 minutes. Guess what? The slots are all full! Apparently they sent out extra invites just in case they do not hear from everyone. I doubt they are going to have that problem this year!!!!

Ryanpj:

Like the airlines, if you are bumped you get a free flight, will they give you a free ER visit instead?

Anyone heard anything from New Mexico? They're pretty much the only program that I'm waiting to hear from (still waiting on a few others, but not nearly as interested).

Doing a rotation there in Jan (the only time I could schedule). Do they at least offer a courtesy interview? Overall can't complain...just starting to get nervous about NM

new mexico gave an invite a while back via phone...maybe nov 2nd or 3rd.....

Boston Medical Center.

Anyone know anything about this program...thanks!

would someone who has received an interview let me know what dates UVA offered?

Someone recently said that Wake has been interviewing, but I haven't seen them on the running list. Has anyone heard from them?
Others that I have not seen on the list:
UNC-CH
Kentucky
MCG
I guess to be more specific, has anyone heard from the above programs who did not rotate with them.
jjs, I am still waiting to hear from UNM too.

My December is pretty full and there are a few more programs that I wanted to check out.
Thanks!

i got an MCG offer last week....i havn't heard from the others though

I received an email from them stating they were reviewing my app and that they would make a determination to interview or not by the end of the week. (I received the email Monday.) That's all I've received.

Hopefully they'll grant me an interview, because I wouldn't mind interviewing there.

Synergy - Saginaw,MI (limited dates available)
East Carolina - Greenville, NC

Any word from Univ of IL at Chicago? Haven't seen it yet on this thread. Trying to coordinate one chicago trip.

This process is so expensive!!! HOW do they expect us to do this without extra financial aid?????

I called quite a few programs today... most of them are still in the process of reviewing applications. The general impression is: if you dont hear from programs by the end of this month or first week of december, start worrying... Until then, sit tight...
