Frst of all I would like to thank Kahr, a member that helped me out awhile ago explaining my options and offering great advice! He is really awesome 🙂 -I am hoping to get some more opinions on this forum too.

So awhile ago I posted on here about my college selection of either Iowa or Iowa state university for pre med. Since then I have had some stressful nights thinking about my future. Isu has has offered me 8200 in scholarships and Iowa 2000. I live in state so the tuition is nearly the same but in the end with all the help ISU would be roughly 24,000 cheaper. Iowa has top rated medical and research facilities and staff. Iowa state is 2 hours closeer and is cheaper. My grandfather is even offereing to match my scholarship amounts if I attend Iowa state (my family are hardcore cyclone fans and it would Kill them inside to see me become a hawkeye haha) I am not entirely certain on med school, pa school also looks good to me as well. I enjoyed iowas campus and diversity more than Iowa States along with its general feel and sports. I feel like this campus is full of farmers and people just like my small hometown. Do you think paying that much more money to attend Iowa would be worth it? Is this amount negligable compared to any salary later in life?

What I enjoyed about Iowa was the scenery, river, proximity of downtown, close classes, gender ratio (more guys than girls at ISU is a disadvantage for me haha) and longer distance from most kids homes making it so peopl dont just go home on the weekends, and the friendliness of it.

I think some of it may be that I just want to be different from the family and stand out and be different from them? Only 1 day until the deadline, and I actually graduate today, having both colleges all ready to accept me what ever I choose. I want to major in either Biochemistry, Biology, or Biological/Biomed systems engineering as a backup in case I chane my mind (and that area interests me). It is not that I hate ISU or anything I just cannot get the peace of mind that I made the right decision because I keep just getting that feeling that I will miss out on oppurtunities. Everyone's comments are greatly apreciated

Probably not a lot of people familiar with your situation on here. but i am. there is nothing at UofI that you can't get at IA State. I went to Iowa, my sister went to Iowa, I am a Hawkeye, but my brother in law goes to IA state, my other went, and it is a lot closer so I grew up around it all. IA State is big in two things. Ag and engineering. So there are reasons you may see a lot of farmers. But you can be very successful at IA State. And if it is $24k cheaper, go there. There is nothing at Iowa that makes it worth the extra money. plus you are close to Hickory Park.

Carver is a bitch about accepting IS students and even worse about accepting their own (as in there isn't a huge preference for either). I have heard of numerous Iowa residents/U of I grads that cannot get into Carver. Going to U of I will not help with Carver any more than IA State. And I have talked to numerous people that would argue that is hurts you (but there is no evidence to back that up so I can't support that claim). It is subjective, but still.

Plus you would have to be a cyclone, which would suck. Seriously though, the decision is up to you, and if you want to get away that bad, it may benefit you in other ways. But on the surface, you aren't going to get anything from Iowa that you can't get at Iowa State.
