I haven't seen this thread pop up yet so I thought I would get it going!! I'm excited to see what happens with this school and I want to hear from the rest of you!! :biglove: I know there are others out there because we've discussed other topics on this school! 👍 So let's hear it for current ISU applicants!! :welcome:

I applied to ISU, I hate the wait.... but glad apps are over!

I was wondering if anyone received an interview invite from ISU yet. The first tentative dates are less than 3 weeks away and so far I havent heard of anyone getting invited

I'm sure someone would have posted to the Interview thread had they been invited. Have any of you had updates to your application posted?

I'm in Committee review, they received my VMCAS, and all of my GPA numbers have been posted. If you're wondering any more about this, then you could check out the Iowa Supplemental App thread. We've been talking about updates there.

As for interviews, I'd agree with you pink. Anybody who would've gotten one would likely be posting all over the interview thread!! Aside from that 123, I would think that the IS students would be interviewing first. I'm so excited to get into November though, I want to know!!

Yep, I've seen that thread too! No recent updates to it, however. Did you submit by the priority deadline? I got a little confused on the other thread because it looked like people who submitted after I did had calculations done before me. Maybe the priority deadline wasn't referring to the order they would review applications.

I received an email today notifying me that I have a message on their portal system. I checked and found that I've been selected for the first weekend of interviews (Nov. 16-17).

When did you submit your supplemental app, just out of curiousity? and are you in state?

Congrats!! How exciting! Let us know how it goes for you. Best of luck!

My GPAs still have not been calculated, but I was informed that not all files have been looked at yet -- so don't fret if you're in a similar situation!

I'm in state (currently attending ISU). I don't quite remember exactly when I submitted but it was pretty close to the deadline. That being said, I have no idea how they decide interview candidates (in their four tentative interview weekends). I'm assuming they take the in state applicants first as our deadlines were earlier. Other than that, I can only assume they are going down a list of competitive applicants and will stop interviewing when they have reached their quota (which is why the interview dates are 'tentative'). If anyone actually knows how they utilize the separate interview weekends, let me know!! I'm dying with anticipation. I feel like I've thrown a pitch and it's in the batters hands now (aside from my actual interview). (I apologize for the poor metaphor.. I actually hate baseball)

I applied here as well and am in academic review. I'm OOS and have yet to have my GPAs calculated. I hope it gets done soon so I can get closer to knowing if I got an interview because I'm impatient lol

I know I keep checking my status page too! I am also in committee review but my gpa is not calculated yet, were you in committee review for a long time before they finally calculated your gpas?

Maybe the first interview weekend is for IS applicants only. That would make sense since their deadline was earlier. I bet we'll be getting status updates within the next few weeks.

That's what I was guessing.
In the meantime, I'm still in Academic Review...I don't think applications are looked at in any particular order.

finally moved to committee review today... but my GPAs still haven't been calculated (or at least posted).

Would you mind posting this in the interview notification thread? I'm sure there are plenty of people interested in knowing and congratulating you!!

How exciting that it is almost the first interview weekend?! Sorry if I made you any more nervous nok!! Good luck!! :luck:

Any updates from those who have yet to have their GPAs calculated? I'm still waiting nervously :nailbiting:

My GPAs are posted -- are you still in academic review? I wouldn't worry too much, they probably haven't gotten to your file yet. (I know, easier said than done!)

Hey Everyone,

I'm a current VM1 at Iowa State and I thought I could hopefully alleviate some stress over the application process. From what they told us last year, their selection process is broken down into phases. If you pass the initial academic review your application is passed to the committee review. I wouldn't panic if you have made it to committee review but your GPAs aren't posted on the web page (they seem to be notoriously slow updating these things). Once the committee reviews your application it is given a score that is combines with the score from the academic review. If you meet the cut-off they have established then you will be offered an interview. Based on the classmates I've spoken to, this first interview weekend was mostly composed of in-state Iowa residents. The second interview date (Early December) had A LOT of contract students (CT, SD, NE, etc) but also a wide assortment of other states. The last 2 interview dates (January) seemed to be a mix of everyone.

On a happier note, good luck to everyone interviewing this weekend! Remember to relax and be confident! The interview is very laid back and they are not going to ask questions to trip you up. I'll be doing the student panel at 3:00 on Saturday and the white coat fittings on Sunday from 8:00-10:00, so feel free to ask me any questions you might have!

Thanks Wild!! That information is awesome!! I am so excited to see what comes next! Hope to see you at an interview weekend this year!

Thanks Ziska! Thanks to Pinkpuppy and Jerseyshore girl as well!

I understand about refreshing your email Ziska... I looked at last year's thread and saw that the first wave of invites were sent out on a Thursday, so today I was refreshing my email like crazy, though I honestly didn't expect an invite. (I thought I royally messed up on the supplemental essays due to a time restraint, and I almost thought Iowa State wouldn't even look at me). So when I got an email that I had a message on my portal.. I was shaking like a leaf! It took me 3 tries to type in my password!

Hope you and Pinkpuppy get an interview invitation soon as well! 👍

As an Iowa State grad, I would definitely recommend renting a car - it's an easy drive from Des Moines to Ames and it will allow you to see the area around the school as well.

How accommodating is admissions with switching your interview date? I signed up a the Sunday dec 8th interview slot, booked my flights and all, and just realized that my nephew's baptism is that day. I would like to see if I can change my interview to Sat dec 7th if there are any slots left. I don't want to jeopardize my chances with Iowa though by asking if I can switch days - what should I do?

On another thread for a similar situation (but for a UC Davis applicant), someone suggested calling the school and asking. That way, it can be anonymous (assuming they don't ask you to identify yourself). They are obviously interested in you, so hopefully they are willing to switch your days!

Can't help with that - I graduated over a decade ago and they didn't interview then - but the people at Iowa State are some of the nicest you will ever meet, so I would suspect they would try to accommodate you if possible.

Have any OOS applicants heard anything back?

I have not. But I did not get my stuff in until end of September.

I think I was right about there with you. Maybe mid September.

Still in committee review with no calculations. I submitted my VMCAS and supplemental on the 1st with the payment postmarked immediately after.

Mine says Committee review as well. I guess we just wait now...

AAAHHHHH! I got an interview! lol I seriously thought that it was going to be rejection when I opened went to the portal, but I was amazed that it was an invite! Weird thing is though, its for THIS weekend, and they even say that because its so last minute, they are offering my a chance to do a skype interview during that interview slot. I am so happy to have an interview but I'm kinda bummed that I wont get to participate in the activities that they do on interview day.... but flights right now are like 700+ on this short notice..... -_- anyone have any advice for skype style interviews (from other school interviews?) or any current students have this experience at Iowa? I feel like its harder to feel personal over the internet 🙁.

Congrats on your invite! I'm sorry they gave you such short notice. I would still try to dress professionally, and try to choose a calm and quiet atmosphere to take the call in. Also, remain calm - I'm sure you'll do great! I'm still stalking my portal. Still under committee review....

Well I there is definitely plenty of time left for more invites to go out, so I know there will be two waves at least! good luck! the waiting it the worst! lol at least its December already....

I'm just unsure as to how they are picking their order....ie., if more competitive applicants are receiving earlier dates.

well my gpa is on the middle to lower side, but I submitted my vmcas by sept 1st, and my supp app the pretty early too

As did I. I guess I'm going to be lost in finding a rhyme to their reason.

Galixia, you're not alone! I'm not sure that their "priority deadlines" meant what we assumed them to mean haha. Still waiting on GPA calculations to be posted here. The website says the next interviews will be held on January 17-18th if I remember right. Looks like we could be waiting for a few more weeks even if we get selected on that one. For a skype interview, definitely dress up! Find any location in town where you can get privacy (a study room in a library?) and a good connection. I've never had a good experience with skype though so I can't be of much more help. It would ALWAYS disconnect me from my boyfriend! Congrats on the good news!

lol I think thats why im a little nervous... I dont wanna disconnect during my answer lol

I'm sure they'd be more than understanding. Electronic communications are far from perfect. Maybe try several test calls in different locations to see which one sounds the best and gives the best video quality?
