I've been accepted to ISU. I'm 4th alternate on University of Wisconsin's list. Anyone else out there accepted at ISU? I'd love to chat. If I get into UW, I have to make the decision where to go. I live in WI, so the tuition looks great, but either way, I know I will get to work with the creatures of the world and that's the important part.

Congratulations on your acceptance and your decision to switch to veterinary medicine. My wife is a PA in Indiana (dermatology). I've been accepted at Michigan State and am still waiting to hear from Purdue and Western. We have some big decisions coming up also. You are not alone. But it IS very nice to know that whatever we decide...I will be doing what I love!

I also applied to Iowa State and to Wisconsin. I'm an alternate at ISU and I did not get into Wisconsin as far as I know. I'm hoping that by the end of the summer I will be going to ISU but it all depends on how the alternate list moves. I attended undergrad at ISU and it was a great school. Although, you are right, going to your in-state school is a lot cheaper. ISU's out of state tuition is nearly $35,000 per year now (just straight tuition). I wish you luck with your alternate status at UW! If you decide to go to ISU and if I get off the alternate list there, we may be classmates in the fall (I know, that's a lot of if's).

Good luck with UW and congrats on your acceptance to ISU!

you've got that right. Your wife will identify, I'm sure, with "my back has been sore for a month so i decided to come to the ER at 2AM", "i have a rash that has been there for 2 months and i have an appt with the dermatologist tomorrow, but i thought i should come to see what you have to say", "i've been depressed for 10 days and i think i need Paxil". You know what, folks, you are the reason I'm getting out of human medicine!!

want to switch so i can go to wisconsin and you can go to Iowa🙂

Watch out the same happens in vet med...except it is fido has had this rash for 2 months and I decided it is an emergency today, or my dog has had diarrhea for over a week now and it's not getting better so I thought I should bring him in now.....

I would love to!

I was accepted to ISU and I am 98% sure I will not be going there so there is one more seat for you. Do you know where you are on the alternate list? I applied to Wisconsin and I have heard nothing so I guess that is a bad sign, oh well.

I am pretty far down the line on the non-resident list. Oh well, this was my first time applying and I know my GRE score wasn't that competitive so I'll go back and retake it and apply again next year if I don't get in this year. Thanks for letting me know that you are pretty sure you won't be attending ISU. There will be a very happy alternate out there that will take your spot. Congrats on all your acceptances and I wish you well! Where are you thinking of attending?

I am thinking of going to Minnesota but I am going to look at Missouri before I decide. I went to the pre-vet symposium at Iowa State last year and it is a nice school. Hopefully the list will move quickly for you. How far down the list are you because I know someone on the list in the 100s. You also have to consider many people on the alternate list are accepting other offers so you have a good chance of getting in. Good luck!

I am a native of Iowa and got my B.S. in Animal Science from Iowa State University. I know a lot of people who have or who are currently attending vet school there. Ames is a great town and the vet school is very good (even though they are on limited accreditation right now). It is my top choice even though I am a resident of Minnesota now. I am also in the 100's on the alternate list. I wasn't expecting them to have so many alternates so I was very surprised at my ranking number. When I was in undergrad I knew someone who was 5th on the non-resident alternate list and she didn't make it in that year. Hopefully it has changed and they go through a lot more alternates now, otherwise why would they have so many alternate positions? Anyway, Minnesota is a great school and I know some people who currently attend there and I shadowed a recent grad of the program for awhile. I think you will like it there if that's where you choose to go.

I'm 4th on Wisconsin's alternate list. You guys think that is a good place to be from what you have read/heard/experienced?? I've been accepted to Iowa State, though Wisconsin is my first choice (just cause I live in WI).
