K-State c/o 2017 Applicants!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
JoAnna, starting in November, there is in an indoor skating rink in the city park. It is a lot fun. Plus, the entrance fee with the skate rental is $4. (I am not sure if the City of Manhattan has increased the price). It is a bargain if you want to take a break from your studies.

Well thats fun! 🙂 Everyone keeps telling me "oh you will be so busy with school you wont have time to do anything"...and I understand my nights & weekends will not be as free as now that I work but having a 6 year old I still will HAVE to make time to do other things than study. Right now we live in Baltimore with endless museums, festivals, restaurants, parks, and events and I am truly going to miss it. Its totally worth it...but sad all the same.

I don't know about everyone else but I'm reviewing the interview questions from previous years and some of the oddly specific/just plain obscure questions are freaking me out.

I talked to one of my vets at work about her experience and she told me they asked her some random questions like how much does baby cow weigh?

My question is..are they asking these questions to see if you would answer dishonestly or is it typically something they ask associated with your experience (and to make sure you didn't lie about that)?

Should I ever feel comfortable saying "I don't know" ?

They're asking to see how you react when you're out of your element. I didn't get asked anything weird, but other people have said that the question is related to an area that you have less experience in. I think you should state that you're unsure, but try and give an answer, even if it's just an estimate.

I found that most of the questions are related to your experience and things you did in school. Just go through the standard interview questions and practice your answers and you'll be fine. 🙂

Anyone interviewing this Sunday feel like meeting up? My interview is at 10 am, and I plan on touring afties. 🙂 I'll be doing the 9 hour drive to KSU Saturday morning and then back Sunday night. Oh boy!

Good luck to everyone having interviews this weekend! The interviewers here always try to make it as stress-free as possible and it's more of a conversation rather than an inquisition 🙂.

For those of you who haven't been here before, be prepared for a surprise. While it's definitely a change of pace for someone like me from a big city, I did fall in love with Manhattan during my interview. Just ignore the 7 degree temperatures we had yesterday.

Thanks! 👍
Even though I'm not interviewing this week, I've been pretty nervous about mine that's coming up in Jan.

I definitely agree with the last statement. Lumphead, do you have any idea when the next wave of invites will be sent out?

I haven't heard much of anything as far as when the next invites will go out. Sorry! Let me know if you have any other questions though.

I have a question!

I've heard that KSU lets students start shadowing in their teaching hospitals from year 1. Is that true and how easy is it for a student to get that opportunity?

That's one of the many great things about KSU! You can literally go over to the teaching hospital whenever you want, from day 1. You just need to have your name badge and the KSU scrub top they give you at orientation. As part of orientation, you get to meet several of the department heads and they emphasize that you can come do rounds with them.

The first year test schedule is that you have one test per week (not including your two electives) and that test is always Friday morning. We don't have any classes on Friday unless you choose to sign up for a Friday elective, so many people just spend the rest of the day in the hospital. You are also assigned a 4th year buddy that you can contact and go with them on their rotations.

Lastly, you get assigned to 2 or 3 faculty mentors and they are more than willing to help out as well.

I think I'm falling in love 😍

Are all of the KSU interview dates over with? 🙁

Cs, I don't think so, but not super sure.

I emailed KSU last week and they told me they hope to have all interview invites out within the next few weeks. They hope to update everyone of their status as of beginning of January.

I'm sure they get sick of all the inquiries but I'm not too patient (and the rest of the schools I applied to I won't hear anything until January-February so I may be a little too focused on KSU)

Status as in if you got an interview, or status as in accepted/rejected?

Interview since they are conducted throughout January.

I took it as by the start of January everyone would have an interview invite or a rejection notice (I could be wrong though). I don't think it meant if you interviewed you would have an answer of if you were accepted or not.

I'm hoping they aren't done sending interview invites, I haven't heard a word from them yet! 🙁

I did not know that about the shadowing! That just pushed KSU waaaay higher on my list of schools I'd most like to attend! 👍

Don't be too worried yet! They still have a couple weekends that they haven't sent out invitations for yet. I interviewed on Jan 22nd last year, and didn't receive my invite until Dec. 13 (with others not receiving until Dec. 22 even). I was later accepted, so don't worry if you receive one of the last ones. 🙂

Also, what they mean by updating everyone on their status is that they'll send out a notice to those who haven't received an interview invite and let them know that all of the interviews have been offered. There is some moving around, so it's not a definite no, but a tentative no. Nothing official comes out until mid-February.

I have a question for current K-State students and people that interviewed in the past. I just received an interview invite (happy dance) and my boyfriend would like to come with me since he has never been to Kansas. Have others brought their significant others with them? If I do get accepted and end up at K-State my boyfriend will be moving there with me so I understand why he wants to come. From looking at previous years posts it looks like parents have come to the pizza party and on the campus tours - I just don't want to be the weird girl that brings a boyfriend if no one else does. Thanks!

From what I noticed last year, most people had some sort of support group with them (parents, boyfriends, etc.). So I think you're good on that front! Congrats on your interview and good luck! 🙂

Even if you don't bring him to the pizza party, he will at least be able to see the area around the school and all that. But, yeah from what I remember there were parents and SOs in the back of the room at the pizza party. In fact, we had the option of bringing a "guest" to the pizza party I'm pretty sure.

Nothing like catching a cold 4 days before the interview. Been popping zicam like crazy!

Still no interview for me. 🙁
Me neither 🙁(( 🙁 🙁 But I had thought Iowa was done sending invites too and I just got one today, so maybe Kansas still has a wave to go out too! DONT GIVE UP!!

I'm really close with my entire family and last year they all came including my 13 year old brother. They all wanted to see the school in case I did get in so that they could give me their opinions. I drug all of them to the pizza party too. I was definitely the only one there with a much younger sibling but who cares?

This year just one of my parents will go.

I got my invite for Kansas back around Nov 20, but have yet to hear anything from Iowa 🙁 ... so maybe this is a good sign for us? :xf:

Okay, so I have a question - what is the pizza party that people have mentioned? I interviewed today (and probably wouldn't have stayed for it anyway since I'm just a couple hours away), but I never received any info about it, and then someone today asked if we were going to it.

It should be on the interview invite email at about the fourth paragraph in bold letters. I don't know if it's different for others...but that's where I saw the pizza party info.

Weird - mine didn't say anything about it. My fourth paragraph was a sentence saying that rescheduling would only be done in case of extreme emergency.

My email mentioned it in the third paragraph

"You are invited to attend a pizza party on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in Frick Auditorium, Mosier Hall. You are welcome to invite any family or friends who have accompanied you on your visit to Kansas. This event offers you the opportunity to meet our student ambassadors and gives you a chance to ask any questions you might have. "

Kansas Girl,

You interviewed at 3, right? Same as me? Who were you? I know we had to have seen each other.

Yejjers, you will know soon enough. I think there is another wave of invites this week. 😉

Thanks!! and I hope so!! :xf: Seeing a ton of people saying they've heard back from K-State makes me feel queasy.

It was awesome! My interviewers were SO nice and it was really conversational. They mostly asked things about my experiences and from my application, as well as a couple of questions from the lists on here!

Haha, yes, we were on the elevator together. I have long black hair, and I was wearing it down, and I had on a cranberry red shirt with my suit. And I think I'm like a foot shorter than you. This sounds creepy, but I guessed who you were because of your screen name and your name tag.

As for the interview, I also thought mine was awesome!

Haha, you should have said something! Oh well, hopefully we will see each other again in August!

My interview went great! I almost felt like it was too good. I was shocked at how well my brain was working haha. I was also shocked at one of the girls in my interview time slot wearing jeans and a pony tail. She must have rolled out of bed and came straight to the interview. 😱

I missed the jeans girl but felt very sorry for a girl in my time slot whose luggage got lost and who had to borrow her mom's '90s clothes for the interview. She had a much more upbeat attitude than I would've at that point!

and that's the reason i never check luggage going to interviews or horse shows. actually, if i can get away with it, i don't check luggage going anywhere.

I would have, but I wasn't sure how to say something! Haha. But yes, fingers crossed!

If I have to check luggage, I always make sure I have at least one change of clothes in my carry-on. And in this case... I would have had my interview outfit in my carry on!

Has any out of state student heard word about what is going on? I emailed them at the beginning of December, and they like was said before hoped to update everyone by January 1st. But I have heard nothing? Are out of state interview invitations already sent out?? I would love to know what is going on! 😕

A couple of rounds of OOS interview invites went out already. Not sure how many are left.
