Me too!!! 1/9/2011
I'm an OOSer too. I felt so relieved after the application deadline, and now the stress of waiting to hear about interviews is creeping up on me. I'm like a lot of you, checking my email obsessively.LOL. Do you guys know if they usually do all the interviewing in December?
Do you have a choice over dates, or does the email just give you a date and time you're supposed to come interview?
What airlines are people using to fly to KSU?
If I had to guess.. wouldn't it be based on your statistics.. that's what it seems like Michigan did..
I am wondering what's everyones stats that got interviews..
Don't worry about it just yet. They're still going through and sending invites, so be patient a bit longer before freaking out and assuming you must suck.
At least that's what I'm telling myself, you know. 🙂
yeaaahhh i'm having a really hard time being patient for an interview invite...
does anyone know when k-state would send out rejection notices?
haha i think i've lost hope![]()
Ugh I'm the same way! I wish they would start sending out rejections and interviews at the same time, that way if I didn't get an interview and got a rejection at least I could stop checking my email like 100 times a day.
Quick paranoid question for those of you who got interview invites already... I RSVPed by e-mail and didn't hear back. So now I have convinced myself that they didn't get my e-mail and that I should call. Not that there was any reason for them to write back really except to confirm my RSVP... did anyone hear back, or am I just falling off the deep end here?
She did send me an email back after I RSVPed, so you might want to call. Even if you just say that you were unsure your email got to them and you wanted to make sure they know you will be there.
Hope this helps. I would be paranoid too. This is our future we're talking about! 🙂
Congratulations to all of you interviewees! 🙂 I noticed a couple of you inquiring about flying into Manhattan. The regional airport here has one gate and the airport code is MHK. American Eagle has direct flights to and from Dallas, Kansas City, and I think they might have stopped service to/from Denver...anyways, flymhk.com would have more information.
One word of advice, though--the winter weather here can be unpredictable. I've flown into Kansas City and had to stay the night in a hotel on two separate occasions due to icy conditions on I-70 (missing class the next day, too!). I also hear that a good number of flights into/out of Manhattan are delayed/cancelled due to ice on the runway, extreme wind, etc. Just FYI...if you can swing it, best to have a day or two on either side of your travel that's clear of any super-important life-altering stuff--just in case. 🙂
Ok, thanks! I shall start stressing..... now! It is really annoying that it is so hard for me to make phone calls (especially long distance) during normal business hours.
But thank you for the info!
I think Kansas has an interview waitlist too. Last year, they overaccepted by, like, a lot.
I received an e-mail back after I RSVPed, so I agree you might want to follow up. If calling is inconvenient, you can forward your original message and say that you have been having some problems with your e-mail and you want to confirm it was received.
Does anyone that has had an interview at Kansas know if it would be better to rely on the shuttle service that KSU provides or to rent a car? What is everyone else planning on doing?
I have an interview in January, and since I will be flying out by myself, I will most likely be relying on the shuttle since I cannot rent a car (I'm under 25 🙁). Not ideal, but I guess it will work and I'll just allow for a lot of time in case something goes wrong.

You can still rent a car! You may have to pay an underage fee, but as long as you have an ID/credit card, you shouldn't have any problems! I rented cars in five different states for interviews/visiting the schools, and I was only 22 at the time. Some states and companies charge differently for underage, so just look around. I had good luck with Enterprise in most places, and in a few places, didn't even have to pay the underage fees since I was there for a professional school interview. (Iowa comes to mind, can't remember where else)
I'm only 20 though, and everywhere I have found has required that you be at least 21 🙁
See if someone on this board is flying in at the same time as you and is older :-D Or just hang out near the rental counters and eavesdrop on the people renting cars until you find someone heading to the college. I know about 6 people on my flight were going the same place I was!
Or, try different locations-- IE, take a taxi to an Avis or Hertz in town, dont use the one through the airport. I know sometimes if you explain that you are there for a professional school interview, they might be able to work with you.
Good idea, cowgirla. My interview is on 1/22, and I'll probably be arriving on Friday (the 21st) around lunchtime. Anyone else going to be there around that time?
My interview is on 1/22 as well. I was going to try to give myself an extra day of padding in case of bad weather and fly in on Thursday, but nothing is final yet. I will let you know hunterjumper via PM once I get things finalized.
I'm feeling like I should book my flight soon, but I can't decide on which airport to fly into. Right now I'm wondering if flying into Manhattan and relying on shuttles would be less expensive then flying into a major airport two hours away and renting a car. However, I also suspect that the smaller airport would be more susceptible to closure in case of bad weather.
I've read that other people are thinking of flying into Kansas City because it's less expensive.
The flight on Friday gets in around noon (my interview is Saturday) and I was already wondering what I was going to do with myself all day on Friday so I can't even imagine arriving on Thursday instead. I'll be bored out of my mind!
I was debating going a day early as well because I'm afraid of the weather. I was just wondering if any other girls that have interviews on Jan. 9th would be interested in splitting a hotel room. The email said that was going to be $85-$110 per night so, anything we can do to save a little money would be good. I know there is always the fear of random roommates, all of us college students know that, but it might be nice to have company. Someone who is in the same boat to talk you down when you're climbing the walls from pre-interview jitters.
Just a thought. Let me know if you are interested!
When I was visitng KSU, I always stayed at the Motel 6 on Tuttle Creek Road - it's clean, only about 2 miles to campus, and is generally around $40. But yeah, definitely want to book early - if it is a game weekend, likely all the motel rooms in town will be full.
I highly recommend getting a rental car and allowing at least a day or two extra. Yeah, it might cost more, but in the grand scheme of things considering you might be spending the most important 4 years of your life here, it's a worthwhile investment. The car will let you explore the area, check out possible places to live, and just relieve you of the worry about how you will get around.
It might seem premature, but check out some of the housing listings and see what neighborhoods are like and what places cost. It's good to start getting an idea about that stuff now so you won't have to be scrambling so much later.
Oh, and re interview stress... seriously, don't go getting all insane about it. KSU is known for having among the least stressful interviews. Do your normal preparation - know your PS, why you want to be a vet, the basic ethical stuff, rights vs. welfare, etc. - all the standard stuff you find on interview question lists. But they will not be "grilling" you or trying to make you cry or test your biochem knowledge or anything. Mine seemed really more like just a pleasant conversation. I think we went like 10 minutes beyond our alloted time (I was the last interview slot of the day) and I felt like I could have easily chatted with these people for another hour. Just relax. If you made it this far, you're qualified, so they really just want to make sure you aren't a freak and see how you will fit in with others. I know it's hard not to freak a little, but don't go crazy.
