A quick question for you though, the email for the interview said that students will be giving the tours of the school. Do you remember when those tours were? Is it a giant group tour for everyone interviewing that day? Or do you just tour after your interview?

Last year they took tour groups whenever enough people had finished their interview and were ready to go. I think tours ended up being about every half hour or so, with 4-10 people in a group. You could probably also go on a tour before your interview, which might help you relax and discuss the school more easily (my interview was first thing in the morning, so I didn't get a chance till after). Either way, enjoy your visit. No one is out to get you --they are out to get to know you!

Yeah, what Willow said. You can pretty much just show up anytime during the weekend and probaby get on a tour within 15 minutes. Last year, my interview was on a Sunday, and I think I arrived on Friday, explored a little, and took a tour Sat. I wanted to have the tour under my belt before the interview because I figured it might give me a little inside knowledge and allow me to ask more intelligent questions during the interview.

I just got an interview invite tonight, so they are still sending them. Good luck!!

*looks around for the closest cliff*
I need an intervention. My iPhone is going to self-combust if it has to keep checking my mail as often as I tell it to.

I feel like they are going to send out a bunch tomorrow... I was creeping on last year's interview invite thread and Kansas sent out a bunch on the Thursday after the week of Thanksgiving.. Lol yes I'm that obsessed that I needed to look up what day of the week they sent out a ton of invites after Thanksgiving last year.

you're not obsessed. I have the previous invite thread saved as a FAVORITE on my computer. lol😀

Anyone hear anything today?

Nope... nothing.. losing hope, had e-mailed someone they said this would be the last this week...

Thank you for your email. We are finishing up sending interview invitations this week – they are being sent via email. All applicants will be notified of their status via email within the next few weeks.

Sincerely,
Marci Ritter

I wish they would just tell us if we were not getting one. I mean if we don't get one tom then I guess that means we are not getting one at all. I am so over looking at my email and I still have other schools I am waiting on. I wish we all knew what was going to happen and this was over with... Good luck I hope we all get one tom also😳

It's still very early in the application process for many schools. Some schools, like Penn, haven't even started seriously looking over applications yet. I hope everyone hears good news from KSU soon, but hang in there even if you don't. There is still plenty of time to get interview invites.

I personally used the shuttle last year for my interview and loved it! They were so accommodating! I flew into MHK and there was a student waiting in the airport to pick us up, I didn't even call for a ride. After we were dropped off at the hotel at the hotel we were given a time that we would be picked for the pizza party. On the way home from the pizza dinner Dr. Elmore, the associate dean, was our driver and gave us a tour of downtown on the way back to the hotel. The next morning he was driving the shuttle again and picking students and their parent's up at 7:30am for interviews. They have shuttles scheduled throughout the morning to pick up students depending on their interview time. At the end of the day there were a couple trips to drop people off at the airport. Again Dr. Elmore was paying close attention to time and ensuring that everyone was on time for the flights and that people were being taken wherever they needed to be. I would highly recommend the shuttle service if you are flying into MHK! As someone else mentioned it also gives you a chance to talk with current students or maybe even Dr. Elmore.

you can always call them and see. I haven't done it w/ k-state yet (and haven't heard from them yet...😕) but i did w/ OSU. OSU also told me no and 3 days later called me up saying never mind, I get an interview after all 🙂D).. so don't give up hope just yet!

for OSU, were there any status changes, or was it just over the phone?

Mine says "in review" now. They should have sent out emails (by last Friday I think) but if you didn't get one, call them! One girl had hers in her junk-mail, another never got it, so I would call them to make sure. Good luck!

I just called Marci and she said that the bulk of the interviews have been sent, but a few may still be sent out as they decide how many seats have been taken. Other than that, everyone will get an email with their status in the next few weeks.

What's the best way to mess up your interview at KSU?

Go on about how you don't like people and therefore would rather work with puppies and kittens all day.

But seriously, that's a good question. I wonder if anyone on here knows of any true stories of really messed up interviews.

1st question=gave a rehersed answer to a question that WASN'T even asked, lol
And was subsequently let out 10 minutes early. I was so embarrassed...I think it just started out bad and snowballed from there.

I was told at my file review that it was my "below average" interview skills that really took me out of the running

Lesson learned.......be CALM and SLOW down

Wow, thanks for stepping up with a great story. Are you applying to KSU again this year?

It wasn't so bad that they didn't accept me over it, but I did have a brainless moment which might have been problematic:

My interviewers asked about my somewhat unorthodox educational background, which included dropping out of high school to start college at 16. I managed to begin my response halfway intelligently, but while I was talking about what I had learned in a largely seminar-style and hands-on college curriculum I unthinkingly mentioned how much I preferred independent and small-group study to traditional classroom learning. There was a moment of awkward silence, then one of the interviewers said something along the lines of, "You do know that the vet school curriculum will have you sitting in a 100+ person lecture hall listening to powerpoint lectures for three years, right? Won't that be a problem for you?"
Interviewers: :eyebrow:
Me::uhno: No!
.....
.....
.....

Interviewers: Alright, moving on to the next question...

Me 10 months later and about to finish my first semester:

It's fun to laugh about now, but right after the interview I was terrified that the blunder would cost me any chance I had at getting in. After thinking about it for over a decade, I was so sure that vet school was what I wanted, I didn't even think to put an explanation after my vehement "no!"

But seriously, that's a good question. I wonder if anyone on here knows of any true stories of really messed up interviews.

This happened during my Texas A&M interview, but it had to do with the other vet schools that I applied to, and one of them was Kansas. It didn't turn out too tragic, but it is still an avoidable situation...

They asked me how I chose the other schools I applied to. The truth was that I applied to as many schools as I could that I was qualified for, because IMO any vet school is going to give you a good vet education (and my GPA isn't anything to write home about, so beggars can't be choosers when it comes to getting into vet school!!) It was my first app cycle, and I didn't even think I would get an interview anywhere, let alone be picky about what schools I applied to. I also knew that my best shot at acceptance was my IS (Texas A&M), so I didn't think that I should get too excited just yet about programs at other schools.

I obviously didn't want to respond with "I just applied anywhere I was qualified for", so I grasped for anything I could think of that WASN'T that answer. I ended up saying that I had lived in Texas my whole life, and wanted to experience somewhere new :smack: This is true, but not a good interview response!

They responded with "So, it wasn't about the schools' programs, then?" I freaked, and wanted to say "No! It is ALSO about the programs!", but I figured next they might say "Really? Tell us about the programs."

In the end, I only made the waitlist, but during my file review they told me my interview score was 50/60 points (which was average for those that were accepted last year). The thing that hurt my acceptance most was my GPA, but this interview faux pas really could have been avoided.

Moral of the story: Know something about all the schools you are applying to, even if you are applying to them as a long shot to improve your chances of getting in somewhere! 😳

Just to let everyone who is still waiting to hear from KS to not lose hope. Marci will send out emails in mid December to inform you if you have been flat out rejected or if you're still a "viable candidate". If you receive the viable candidate email it will basically say "We are not rejecting you at this time but we are not inviting you for an interview. If we need additional people to interview we may ask you in the spring. If you have not heard from us by April 1st, please contact us."
Basically... I got the viable email 12/15/09 and then exactly one week later I got an interview invite for the very last interview weekend. So even if you receive the viable candidate email, do not fret. I'm here so it's possible for all of you! Happy email stalking : )

May we see this e-mail!?!?!? 😳

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the DVM degree program at Kansas State University. From approximately 1000 nonresident applicants we have invited about 360 to interview during January, 2010. Applicants were selected for interviews based on their composite GRE scores, science GPA's, and the ability to complete our prerequisites satisfactorily by the end of the 2010 spring semester.

Since the application process is on-going, we might interview additional applicants after this first round. This means that you might be invited to interview later during the spring of 2010. You are still on our list as a viable applicant. If you have not heard from us by April 15, 2010, please feel free to contact us to check on the status of your application.

If you are not offered a position in a veterinary college anywhere during this application cycle, please feel free to contact Dr. Elmore at [email protected] after April 15, 2010, to ask how you can become more competitive while reapplying at Kansas State University.

We wish you the very best as you pursue your goal of becoming a veterinarian.

Sincerely,
Marci Ritter
Administrative Assistant

Thank you! Back in 2008 there was some weird e-mail that got us all up in arms, I like yours better.

Just curious, is there any order to which they invite OOS for interviews? ie, best first worst last, vice versa, alphabetical, etc

Haven't heard anything official on this, but I believe I am second to the last alphabetically in my class and last year I had the last interview slot on the last day of the last weekend. So I'm thinking there might be an alphabetical component. I prefer to think that rather than there is some kind of qualitative ranking!

I would have to guess it is which stair you land on when they toss all the applications down (or was it up...) a flight of stairs. First stair = first, ect.

No, really, I am interviewing OOS the first weekend and by my best approximations I am a middle of the pile applicant at least by numbers, and my name is in the middle of the alphabet. I know people say it is random every year, but I truly believe it now!

What's the best way to mess up your interview at KSU?

I thought of a good one while driving today:

In the middle of the interview interrupt yourself and say, "I'm sorry, I'm just so nervous," and pull a flask out of your jacket and take a swig.

Rejected 🙁

Dear Applicant:

From approximately 1,100 non-resident applicants for the veterinary Class of 2015 at Kansas State University, about 350 were selected based on composite GRE scores and science GPA’s for interviews. Unfortunately, you were not selected for an interview. If you have questions regarding how you can become a more competitive applicant for the Class of 2015, please feel free to contact Dr. Ronnie Elmore, Associate Dean for Admissions, Student Programs and Diversity at [email protected] after January 1, 2011.

We wish you the very best as you pursue your goal to become a veterinarian.

I got the viable applicant email as well...looks like it's going to be a long wait, April 15th:scared:
I also can't believe they dont even look at animal experience hours (according to that email)....booooo

Sorry to hear. I was rejected also 🙁

There's a typo in that e-mail...it says Class of 2015, don't they mean 2016? Haha. I've read the e-mail 10 times already. It's still sinking in 😡
