What are the names of the banks available in Kansas City? I am from Canada, and I would prefer setting up an account at a larger and more well-known bank. This way, it will be easier for me to transfer money from Canadian banks to that one.

I use USBank and have never had issues. I know Commerce bank is also around. Plenty more I'm sure.

$67 an hr is about right...... As far as award letters go for financial aid the last time I checked the school hadn't even finished its COA therefore awards cannot be released until that is done. I don't remember that happening until end of May of last year.

I haven't heard of a single classmate of mine buying all those. Stick with medical biochem, costanzo physio, BRS physio and you can make it all the way through until MOD where you need to but big Robbins.

Apply for it now unless you don't plan on receiving additional funds beyond tuition. I was originally denied last year due to a mistake on my credit. It took me a month to get the proper documentation gathered and submitted for them to overturn it. Better to do it early than late.

Out of curiousity, what type of mistake would result in a denial. As far as I can tell, I have nothing on my credit that falls into their adverse credit category, but things like this always have me wondering.

Oh, and I was also told by financial aid to wait until 90 days or less from the start of classes or the credit check would expire and they'd have to run a second.

The mistake was a state tax that was paid but for some reason the State filed a delinquent notice and rescinded the delinquency when I contacted them. One credit agency never took it off. I had to contact the state tax commission and have them resend my proof of payment and documentation so that I could submit it to both the credit agency and the grad loan agency. Nothing major but a mistake that could have kept me from getting FA.

At one of my other interviews, the financial aid guy said any bill in collections can result in denial. He said there was once a student that missed a $20 bill a few years earlier and got denied because of it. Your actual credit score doesn't matter too much. He said to get a free credit report before you submit the app and make sure there's nothing in collections.
 
I was worried over nothing. Just filled it out and was approved immediately. Whew!

Does anyone know if you can leave the financial aid award as pending or does it need to be accepted/rejected?
 
Which summer month will we get off between first and second year? June? July?
 
July. You will get done around June 28 and start back close to Aug 1
 
When is orientation and when is the first day of classes?
 
Week of July 25 for orientation. Classes start on August 1.

I'm looking to get a new laptop in the next week or so... I've got it narrowed down between the MacBook Air and the Pro. Anybody have any opinions on which one to go with. Leaning towards the air because it's cheaper, lighter and has great battery life. But I have a 6 year old Pro now and it has been great.

Depends on what your intended uses are. The air is lighter, but doesn't have as robust a processor. If you max out options on the air, you'd only save a small amount off getting a 13 inch pro, which has a far better graphics set up and better CPU options.

Not a bad play. The air was just updated last week with the new skylake. I have an air and gladly trade the graphics ability with the battery life and portability.

Not that it matters much, but another consideration is the tax free weekend in Missouri. If you wait and purchase at the apple store on the plaza, you can buy your computer tax free that weekend. It's the first weekend in August, so just after classes begin.

just fyi, when you move here and decide on Time Warner for wifi, there are a ton of hotspots in KC that let you access wifi anywhere in KC. Just figured that our now haha

From what I've read they indicate new models should begin shipping at the end of the second quarter (June 30).

Yep, apple has discounts...more off the more expensive configurations, but I think it's around $150 ish off the price. Then the tax free on top of that.

Each model has a specific dollar discount, which depends on machine and configuration. The discount is as little as $50 and as much as $250. The pricing can be found online for what you are looking for. The stores also have some pretty good BTS specials. Last year was free beats headphones. The year before was a $150 gift card to iTunes/App Store.

Again, depends on your usage. I have always gone with the 13 inch and never been disappointed. There's been nothing I couldn't do on it and I like that it takes up less space than the 15 inch. Ultimately, it's a preference thing. I'll be buying a new one in August, as well.

Haha same here, I'm going to go with the 13 I think. I had the 15 inch pro and it was a bit of a pain to bring to class and lug around everywhere.

Are you guys getting an email regarding your financial aid award? I saw people talking about it and so I checked my netpartner, which had been updated. I was now able to see my actual loan amounts under the "Awards" section and I accepted both of the loans. Under the "Loans" tab, my status is still pending but the loans show up under the "Loans at KCU" tab. All of the needed documents are complete except the entrance loan counseling. Should I have gotten an email by now or what?

If you have completed everything, including all MPNs, the pending should disappear on the awards tab, but they will still show as pending on the loans tab since we won't actually receive them until school begins. They send the dispersement acknowledgement to the loan servicer sometime in June (per financial aid office).

Only under the "loans" tab. There is no status under the awards tab
 
I am little worried about the financial aspect prior to the starting of school. How much money should I have saved up and when does our loan kick in?

I had similar questions and from what I've gathered we could receive the disbursement anywhere between July 18th and the end of August. That being said, you should create a budget and have enough money on hand to carry you through August. You will probably receive the funds sooner than the end of August, but its better to be safe than sorry.
 
I was looking at Onelife Fitness and it is pretty expensive, but looks like a really nice gym (for me, it wouldn't really be that expensive because it does have yoga classes and I would be paying $10-15/class at a yoga studio). There are also a lot of coffee shops nearby which is where I do most of my studying. Is there any parking in that area, and are there usually open tables at any of the coffee shops (kaldi's, Starbucks, scooter's)? When I was in undergrad sometimes I would show up at a coffee shop and not be able to get a table, which was always really frustrating.

KC isnt as busy as any other major city, ive alwasy found seating at coffeeshops for studying. The only one where ive had an issue is the starbucks on main street.

Parking is caje as well.
