Oh, and my roommate and I found a place last weekend! YAY! Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet you all until school starts, as my work doesn't end until August 5th. Poo ...

Where did you guys end up choosing an apartment?

Oh, I found out that I won't be able to go on the camping trip and I am bummed because it totally sounded cool 🙁 My boyfriend's good friend is getting married that weekend.

For everyone that went, how was The Price is Right? Did you guys win anything?

our apartment is in a cool place on the border of south pasadena and LA, and rent is reasonable! it doesn't come with a fridge though
what in the world is wrong with LA? every other place in the country has aparments that come with fridges...i mean having a fridge usually isn't even a question. all my friends on the east coast think this is really weird.

how many people typically go on that camping trip anyway?

hahaha. i am sort of leaning towards no but im not sure. it IS an extra 25 dollars that i cant afford to spend right now. im not a big camping person either...but if i dont go, would that oust me from the rest of the class cause everyone else would go is this something that most people decide to do?

haha yeah so i never guessed i would meet my future roomie from SDN but it seems like it will work out really well. it's def nice to have that and the apartment taken care of although utilities are proving to be a bit of a hassle...im looking into DSL and cable companies and it's all very pricey. blah.

as for dsl, verizon has a good deal now where you sign up, get the first month free, and it's 29.95 per month after that...pretty sweet...a year ago i was paying 49.95 a month...DSL has gone down A LOT......

and as for the fridge thing, in a way, it's kind of good that it doesn't include a fridge, because who knows what was in it or how it was treated before you? it may break down after a month (which happened in one apt i lived that included a fridge..that was about fifty years old).
anyway, for a nice but cheap fridge, look in the pennysaver for that area...there are always people trying to sell their fridges....i got one that was only six months old for like $150....v. nice........

haha, YOU? SHY? i would have never guessed that. 🙂 u are very sociable on these forums. no worries, i think u won't have any problem meeting peeps. USC seems to have an all around great bunch of students. if anything u'll have made some connections with some of us SDNers 🙂

that's a great deal u got on the fridge! i'll have to keep looking...and as for the DSL thing, i def looked at verizon and that's cheap and all, but u have to pay for a landline if u do that. we were thinking that we weren't going to have a landline since we both have cellphones. i checked out another one, speakeasy, but it's like 55 dollars a month for direct liink, which is DSL but without the price of a landline...doesn't sound like the greatest deal but i guess i'll keep shopping around.

yeah, i've got sbc too...so far the service is really great....i had problems with verizon's equipment before....plus you can get all the yahoo upgrades and stuff...v. cool.....

Does anyone (Jalby) have an idea of how often we'd need our laptops at school? I just bought my laptop and I'm debating whether to get a backpack with a laptop holder built-in. And also, is our campus wired with wireless? that would be cool.

I think it says in the second packet that there's wireless in the MDL's and the courtyard outside that little cafeteria place. In the classrooms too I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong ...

I picked up the third one from Rena yesterday (thursday) so they should be mailed out already. It's basically just a listing of all the forms and things you should have completed by now as well as the final few items for registering, student id, etc.

I got the 3rd packet today and ran across a few problems doing some of the on-line things they asked us to do. I tried to log on to the HIPAA page after obtaining my new 10-digit USC ID, but the system wouldn't authenticate me.
Has anyone else successfully finished it?

Also in trying to register, the directions on the gray info sheet doesn't really help because it said you could register classes on-line with those codes, but the codes are for an automated telephone system. FYI, I found out you can call them at 213-740-3705 to register our one and only class.

yeah, had problems with the hipaa thing...it says we should have a 7 digit number? ours are 10......

and i registered using the online system, but god i hope i did it right...at the very bottom of the department list, it says something about medical school (besides the section that says keck nearer the top) and when you open it it says first year, second year, third year, etc...i clicked on first year, then scheduled the "discussion" and the class....it says i'm taking 16 units...is that right?

I'm hoping other people are up for joining something like 24-hour fitness (my preference just because of the hours) as a group so maybe we could get a discounted rate.

I think there are several gyms in Pasadena but none really in S. Pas or near Monterey Hills. Or maybe I just haven't seen them yet.
