Did anyone else get the "interview feedback" email yesterday?

my rating of my interview depends on the outcome of my application:meanie:

Hahaha! I received it too. My interview went very well. I am just annoyed at the fact that they take so long to make a decision. It's been about 8 weeks now and I still have no idea what's going on.

i'm just upset about how upbeat my interviewer was and the ensuing waitlist letter

Eh, anyone hear anything from UW lately? Particularly aimforever and tocems?

I emailed Lucy asking her what was going on seeing that the last email I received said that I would be hearing by the end of January. She replies that the committee still hasn't made a decision, and that several meetings had been delayed due to weather (it has been snowing all winter here in Madison). So I don't really have an answer.

But now I am just starting to laugh...I didn't think it was actually possible to string someone along this long. Oh how I was wrong. I interviewed in October! If they want to reject me then just do it! I'll survive. But this not knowing is just ridiculous.

Oh well. I'm off to Rochester next week.

OMG! I AM IN!!! I AM IN!!! i'm going to be a doctor. Yay!!!! I just got the acceptance letter a few minutes ago! I can't believe it. I got in!!! My first choice! My first acceptance.

Congrats SCR 🙂. I might see you in a few months.

I couldn't have said it better myself. If the process takes 4-5 months that is fine; just don't tell me you'll give me an answer in 4-6 weeks. If things are backed up due to the horrible weather, that is understandable, but the courteous/professional thing to do would be to take 2 minutes out of your day and send out a generic email explaining that this is the case instead of leaving so many people hanging by a string. I have been thoroughly unimpressed by the flat-out unprofessionalism of the admissions process at UW. I have interviewed at 4 schools, and although UW is my number 1 choice, it has thus far been my absolute worst experience.

jdf46, I haven't heard anything since the email that said I would get a final decision by the end of January. I'm not holding my breath.

Congrats on the recent acceptance SRCdoc. 👍👍👍

I know UW is a great school but I agree with you. It has totally been the most unprofessionalism I have seen anywhere. Therefore, even though it's in-state and would have been much cheaper to attend, I have decided not to attend even if I am offered a spot at this point. I need to be able to make plans about next year, is that so hard for them to understand?

I sent Lucy Wall an update/letter of interest last week and e-mailed her as a follow up. This was her response:

"Yes, your letter has arrived and is filed with your application. When an application is complete and goes to the Admissions Committee for review the file is closed once the review is completed. I regret that is the case. I do read your letter and see that it is filed.
Respectfully,

Lucy Wall"

This sounds almost like alternate list = rejection

so is there any point in sending a LOI or update letter to UW if you're on the alternate list???

I just got my acceptance letter yesterday. I really loved Wisconsin but have decided to go to my state school in Minnesota. It seems like letters go out in batches so hopefully some of you that are waiting will hear soon. Good luck to everyone!! (I interviewed end of Nov.)

Apparently not, although don't let that discourage you from contacting other schools. I did extremely well last semester, and was pretty excited about sending my updated transcripts to all schools I had interviewed at. The other 3 were happy to take them into consideration, while UW sent me a scripted email essentially saying "sorry, your file has been reviewed and is now closed, leave us alone" This makes me even more confused as to why I have not received an official decision yet. 😕

Congrats ocddoc! 👍 Its nice to know the adcoms are doing something productive.

I'd like to take a minute to remind people that the Admissions Committee is very aware of studentdoctor.net, and would be ESPECIALLY aware of threads concerning UW. I would highly caution using language like "unprofessional," when speculation is the only evidence that is in hand.

FYI, the Committee meets on Tuesdays. Today being Tuesday means...

I realize selecting candidates is an extremely challenging and time intensive task, and did not mean to sound insensitive to this. It seems that an unfortunate side effect of being left in the dark for so long is that it becomes difficult to ignore speculation since that is all we have to go on. I appreciate that you chimed in to remind us that jumping to conclusions is never a good thing.

My hope is some of the criticism can be used constructively to improve the way future applicants are handled. As I said before, delays are entirely understandable, but it would be courteous to be up-front with applicants about these things. A quick email would really go a long way.

It's like if you were expecting to meet someone really important to you for dinner and then they never showed up or called/emailed etc. to let you know what happened. You couldn't help but wonder what happened or if something was wrong… Then a few weeks later you discover they were simply running behind. It seems the first thing that would come to mind is something like "Oh, well thats no big deal. Why didn't you just let me know in the first place?" 😀

I feel like that was a dumb analogy, but hopefully the point is there somewhere. UW has always been my # 1 choice, and this is why the significant and repeated delays in my processing have been hard to swallow.

Best of luck to all of those receiving letters this week!!!👍:luck:👍

Well said 🙂 And I agree!

Regarding the form letters for those not accepted, mine read as follows with some additional fluff...

"The admissions committee for the MD program at UWSMPH recently completed review of your application. The committee has placed you on our alternate list. This means that should places be available, your application will again be considered. We will keep you on our alternate list and notify you of any further information in late April 2008"

Interview 5 October and didn't get the waitlist letter until 4 December. That said my friend who interviewed the same day was accepted about 4 weeks before I received my letter. Just a frustrating situation that we all have to wait out (I sent a Letter of Intent and was told these aren't considered by Ms. Wall) made even worse if A) it's your first choice (check), (B) you haven't been accepted anywhere else, or (C) you don't hear til late spring early summer and have to rearrange apartments and what not (probably losing your deposits for your other school and rent).

i was just wondering what others think about the alternate list. i know that last year no one was taken off the WL and mvmt has been minimal in the past. i'm hoping that it will be different this year since their whole admissions process has changed a bit.

I don't really have any information, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are being more conservative than in past years with handing out acceptances and are planning to draw from the waitlist. It definitely seems like they have waitlisted(/deferred decision or whatever they are calling it) some pretty awesome candidates. That's my take on it.

that's my overall sense of it too but i feel like i'm a bit biased since i'm on the waitlist. hopefully ur right!

This new "conservative" approach sure is helping the ol' ego.

One of my co-workers just told me that her boss' son was accepted off the waitlist at UW. Anyone heard anything similar? Or is this just hearsay?

Let's hope that's the case cause the idea of being on a waitlist with no mobility sucks

I know that last year (fall '07) they accepted 10 people off of the waitlist...however they took nobody off for the two years prior to that.

Has anyone recieved acceptances/rejections/waitlists recently from UW? I interviewed on Jan 18th and they told us we should hear by the end of Feb (4-6 weeks). I was just curious if anyone who interviewed on or around then has gotten word yet.

My girlfriend interviewed that day (and remembers you) and she hasn't heard anything yet. She's the chick from Florida.

There are at least a few people who interviewed months ago (october/november) and still have not received a final decision... so don't put too much emphasis on that 4-6 week timeline. I can't believe they are actually still telling people that. 🙄 Best of luck!

I got a rejection about a week and a half ago... interviewed 11/9.

Not a single applicant was accepted off of the waitlist last year. That is precisely why they are taking such a conservative approach this cycle.

I hope you hear from them soon. I interviewed a week before you on 1/11, and got my acceptance letter on 2/11. Good luck.

So I finally interviewed on Friday (Feb 29). The day was just as everyone had indicated—low stress and very informative (to the point of being almost too informative, I was getting restless sitting there for so long). Dean Wall did most of the talking since Dean McBride and another dude scheduled to talk were in Hawai'i.... There were 24 in my group including only a few OOSers. Dean Wall said that the later interview dates tend to have more IS applicants. There is one more interview date this Friday (Mar 7) and then they're done. There are still seats available but she declined to say how many seats were left, saying something to the effect that knowing that number would make us worry...haha, great. My interviewer and I got along very well and it was as close to a perfect interview as I could hope. But I'm still very worried that I might not get in for whatever reason. I suspect the interview is in most cases inconsequential compared to your numbers and the whims of the adcom. And I sure hope that interviewing this late doesn't severely hurt my chances.

Let me clarify: the admissions process can be quite subjective, no matter where you are being reviewed. Good luck.

bump. . . any news on u-dubya these days? been pretty quiet. I guess interviews are over, though.

So has anyone heard anything in the past few weeks? It's been a little over 3 weeks since my interview and I'm starting to get anxious.

got the infamous rejection letter in the mail today, I was instate and interviewed in mid feb, good luck to yall!

I got an acceptance letter today. Huge load off my shoulders! In-state resident and I interviewed on February 29. I live in Madison and the postmark date was yesterday (Thursday March 27) so if you live farther away and are still waiting perhaps your letter is in the mail. I received no phone call so I was a little worried when I saw the letter in my mailbox, but it was a fat letter. 🙂

Congrats!!! If you're for sure going, I'll be seeing you in the Fall! 🙂

Weird....during my interview day, the Dean said that they accept an average of 30 people off of the waitlist every year.

Did anyone else get an email from Ms. Wall on Wednesday (26 Mar) stating:

"We would like to update you on our selection process. Our Admissions Committee will complete all reviews in the next few weeks. We plan to send you a letter via postal mail telling you your position on our waitlist by April 15. Additional updates will not be accepted as your review has been completed."

It sure does suck being on a waitlist when you haven't been accepted anywhere else yet!!!! :scared:
