Digitlnoize.. are definitely going to LECOM-B?

I'm fairly sure at this point. I've sent my depost in, at least...all $1500 bucks. That really hurts at Christmas time too...lame.

I am still waiting to hear back from my state MD schools, but I think I like LECOM-B more anyways.

You?

Yes, I have been accepted. I am sooooooooooo x 10^(infinity) excited! ^.^ Lame, I know.

BCLumas, yes I have been accepted and have turned in the $1500. I was accepted to some other programs, but I like lecom-b way too much.

It is seriously going to be an experience. I think that showing us WHAT PBL really was helped in the decision making. I mean, just hearing about it I was kind of skeptical, but when I saw PBL I was sold and a half.

Just me, though.

i mailed out my application NOV. 24th (online) and LOR's Nov. 26.. how long does it take for LECOM to process my app?? My primary was also sent 26th, and they received that 2 weeks ago. I asked if they had received my secondary and LORs but the lady replied saying she would email me after everything was in and had been reviewed.. well.. do i email her again asking if i am complete? or just assume i am and wait? and if thats the case, how long does it usually take?

Well I submitted all of my stuff around the same time as you and I recieved a letter in the mail saying a decision regarding an interview was on hold until I take the mcat, 3 days ago, if that helps

my secondary was completed dec. 5th, and they called me the same week to interview. i would definitely call again. they're pretty nice there, and it wouldn't hurt to show that you are interested.

Hi all..

If any current students or residents of Bradenton read this message, would you please let me know what are some of the good elementary schools?

I am reasonably sure I am moving to Bradenton next fall. I am researching on buying a small house there. So, a good/safe neighborhood is important. I also want to find a good elementary school where my child can go.

Thank for any info or pointers.

Hi 2DEG,

I've been living in Bradenton for the last 7+ years and have seen both the ups and downs of the real estate market down here. There are many houses for sale but they aren't quite moving yet because many sellers either bought too high and can't recoup. As Dragonwell mentioned, West Bradenton is a good area (I used to live close to Bayshore elementary and structurally they did a major renovation and expansion). Your best bet is to check out the Manatee Public School System (if you want to stay in Bradenton). Kids in Florida have to take the FCAT and schools are graded. Just be careful and look at a few years, not just the most recent year. If a school has steady A's and B's, it should play out to be a good school for your little ones.

I really love LECOM-B. I know this was brought up in the laptop thread, but I would like an idea of what current LECOM-B-ers think. Tablet or Traditional Laptop?

Won't make much difference. I have an Acer tablet (convertible) and while it was nice to have during anatomy - ie to circle structures on slides, etc., anatomy ends after 10 weeks and then we have so few lectures that it doesn't really matter much. Mac, PC, tablet, traditional - it's just personal preference. Basically anything that will display a powerpoint will work. Whatever you get, try to make sure it's durable (that is, not a Dell 😉) since you will be lugging it around a lot.

Absolutely not a Dell. If I was going traditional laptop I was thinking of building my own (since I built my own desktop), but we'll see. So far it isn't as cost-effective as the PC was.

Thanks for the advice!

Get what you're comfortable with. There's several in our class with tablets and I think they like them. During anatomy it would have been nice to have one as I import all my notes/powerpoints into One Note and then take notes on them there, so being able to hand draw or circle something would have been cool.

But beyond that I haven't really seen the need, as what few notes I do take is just typing outlines into One Note and occasionally importing some images/charts in from books.

wow i just got off the phone with an admissions lady, she was so nice!! haha. they haven't reviewed my LOR's yet though.. so im still waitin..

I just got off the phone with Heather Morand, who by the way is super nice, and I have an interview! I'll be interviewing Jan 9th. Anyone else? Also, I'll be interviewing at NOVA on the 11th, so this works out B-E-A-Utifully. Now I won't have to make two trips down to Florida.

Congrats on the interview!

Sounds like I should really look into getting One Note since everyone is talking about it.

If you have a tablet PC, then sure, otherwise there's not much point to it.

I do have a tablet. I need to look around for the program. Anyone know about how much it is?

Just my opinion, but I actually found it easier to just do the inking I wanted directly in Powerpoint, rather than using any special software. You might find some other things to spend your money on once you're in school, like board review books, caffeine, food, etc.

Gobinder is another similar program. http://www.gobinder.com/Default.aspx

Is anyone going to go with an Apple notebook? I was thinking of buying one, but I'm not really sure what I should get for med school.

One Note is spectacular and should be readily available anywhere. It's included in the new Office 2007 suite...which is the best thing Microsoft has ever done. The new Word is awesome.

I just got an interview! Jan 18th! I just mailed in the secondary a week ago, I'm impressed with how speedy they were- I like them already! 🙂

I hope you get in! LECOM-B is freaking awesome! We are all having a party, if you didn't see, before classes start, so come down early. Yes, nlax, scpod, and dragonwell are invited too.. I guess ^.^ 😛

Hey BC go join the facebook group and check out the sga site...we can do all our party planning there!!

got the complete email today.. finally.. that only took a month!!

God I love this school already😍

i was accepted but this school sounds horrible (especially considering the sickeningly happy "sold" students posting here) , i'd feel like a criminal with the school monitoring every activity down to clothing and internet. wtf seriously maybe they should have like dress up fridays or something, but everyday is stupid, all the doctors i shadowed wear casual clothes including open toe shoes (wtf it's hot), i mean there should at least be a scrubs option when u don't feel like showering and wearing nice pants. i pray to god i get in at another school too but it seems like this will be my only chocie which sucks major balls. i want to die.

Only the smileys can sum up my reaction.

+pity+:wow::corny:

Seriously. The dress code is not that big of a deal. For one thing, you're not in "class" that much, given the PBL curriculum. For another, it's not that extreme of a dress code. You have to look nice, so what?

If you have ever worked a real job, you might know that you wear what your employer tells you to wear. Different hospitals and offices will have different requirements. I've seen plenty of docs in shirt, tie, and pants...at least most of them wear pants.

You should foward this post to the school and let them know how you feel. Really. They are very responsive to interviewees criticisms.

I hate looking nice!
I like looking like I just woke up, because it's not deceptive;
I'm ugly and I like to stay that way, hell if I wanted to look pretty I'd go to law school or business school, but I chose medicine!!

Also, THIS ISN'T A JOB LAST TIME I CHECKED NO ONE WAS PAYING ME TO GO BUY PANTY HOSE AND DRESS SHIRTS, NO LAST TIME I CHECKED, I WAS THE ONE WRITING A CHECK FOR ONE POINT FIVE GRAND. gdammit. This is school, the focus should be on studying and being comfortable, I pay THEM.

And no, i'm not going to forwrad anything to anybody, i know what ur trying to do, u want them to reject me well it's not going to happen mr. alternate lister.

I hate looking nice!

Maybe someone is in the wrong profession 😕

Patients usually like doctors that don't look like this:

holy **** girl.. just be glad you got in, seriously, it can't be THAT bad.. and if it is, don't go because medicine isn't obviously important enough to you to deal with dressing up for a few years!!

ps. this was just rude. if you truly are concerned, you should email them about it.. you never know, maybe they don't think their rules are really bothering people.

Actually, I've already been accepted and sent in my deposit. But you're right...There is no way that I want you as a classmate.

I bet your interview went really well 🙄

Hilarious. Your status says Med Student, but you're still interviewing?

Too bad I won't be around to see it, but just in case you are serious, if you are having these thoughts and YOU HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED, then there is NO WAY, ABSOLUTELY NONE, I would recommend you seriously consider attending here. I can guarantee you will hate it from day one, and it will only be downhill from there. They expressly state "the 5 rules" during the interview and ask you if you understand them for a reason...they are not going away. If you don't follow the dress code, you will get sent home. It's that simple.

It's not like it's that big a deal, esp. for women. Professional dress for women is a lot more open to interpretation than for guys. Women can get away with almost anything short of jeans or a T-shirt.

I changed my mind, i'm looking forward to this dressy style. i think i should put more effort into looking professional because i realized i look like a loser. thanks for bearing with me through my rant.

i hope i'm in ur PBL group first sem and we sit nex to each other.

there's a difference between hygenine (which i like) and trying to look pretty (which i only do for sex)

Is this person serious???😕

Just think of it like everyday you go to school you are looking for sex then it should fit into your philosophy...😎

Hopefully you're being at least a little serious about not minding the dress code.

There are so many hoops to jump through and so much BS to put up with in med school that you will have absolutely no control over - you owe it to yourself to at least choose a school that you like and feel comfortable at...

Troll! Considering the fact that the dress code has been widely publicized on this forum, as well as I am sure the school's website...why did you ever apply to this school?

You're a grown up now (I would hope!), and you are embarking on a professional journey...act it! I work in a hospital down here and I have not seen any MDs/DOs that came in wearing shorts and flipflops.

I was going to say that I had officially decided that this person was someone's kid brother/sister taking their profile out for a spin. Then, I looked at her post history and found that this is her normal behavior.

I bet I meet you on my psych rotation...

I am done. If you continue this behavior, we're calling the mods.

Has anyone talked to any 3rd or 4th years about clinicals. I am particularly interested in more details about the rotations...I've read the reviews on the sga website, but would like MORE. I'm a info junkie.
