hahaha.... no, I crammed the toys and junk into cabinets and just moved a few things from room to room while I took pictures. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to manage to clean for showings/open houses.

I'm not really anticipating that this will be a quick sale either, so it will probably be a summer of trying to keep the kids out of the house so they don't mess it up too bad. I put a tablecloth on my kitchen table for the pictures, and about 1 hour later, my daughter spilled her chocolate milk all over it. So, I'll just keep those things ready on the side somewhere from now on.

Varies depending on the day and semester. The first 10 weeks is filled with traditional anatomy lecture and lab so you'll pretty much be at school all day for the most part.

Once anatomy ends and normal PBL takes over you have a 2hr PBL session on Monday, Wed, and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays is when you have other stuff like Clinical Exam lecture and lab, OMM lecture and lab, and then any "mini-course" lectures (stuff like Ethics, Public Health, etc...) So Mondays, Wed, and Fridays you usually only have to be here 2hrs for PBL, Tuesdays and Thursdays can either be short or long depending on if you have mini-course lectures, or other things on the schedule.

Yeah, usually it works out pretty nice. I'm sure they'll constantly be tweaking the schedule. This year some of the mini-courses were a little annoying because they would take up a lot of time on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it was just hard to focus on PBL reading when you had lectures most of the days during those courses. Sounds like they may front load the schedule with some of those mini-courses to get them over with early. Not sure everyone would like that but I'd prefer to get them over with early, and be able to actually focus on that material without having PBL loom over my head.

I still do a lot of my studying at school, but I definitely couldn't sit through lectures all day each day.

They've been talking about putting them all into the first two weeks for a while now, but there has been objection from the "highest" levels. Hopefully they'll do that.

But all of your classes are pretty much frontloaded in that you do very little in the last semester of second year. I'm already finished with classes-- had the last one today. No more classes at Bradenton for me. Yay!!! This semester I usually spent 2 hours at school Mon, Wed, Thurs and Friday. Tuesday was anywhere from 1 to 4 hours. Occassionally you'll have to be there for some patient exams or something. But, all of the mini-classes are done....so, you have loads of time to study for PBL and for the boards. We start exams next week and do board review after that. The board review is lecture stuff, but all we're doing is reviewing stuff we learned the last two years. Did I mention classes are actually over???? Yay!!!!

During business hours, shirts and ties for guys, business casual for ladies. (Honestly, I'm not sure how to describe dress code for gals...I see people in sweatshirts and apparently that's OK, but you have to wear stockings w/ open -toed shoes or some such business...help me out here, ladies 😀)

OMT T-shirt/shorts on OMM day. Casual after 5 and on weekends.

Not sure about the current fee...I thought I paid around $1000 or so...I'm sure someone on here knows for sure.

Hmmm. *shrug* I really have no good answer for that. That'd be one for the board of trustees. Tuition is actually increasing slightly next year.

For Florida Resident students ………..$25,900.

For Non-Florida Resident students ….$27,500

My theory is that LECOM is just freaking hard core about keeping costs under control. I asked in my interview how they kept it low, and my interviewers just shrugged and said "it's important." And that tuition is the only source of funds - no endowments, no substantial federal or state support, no alumni drives.

You could argue that PBL is cheaper: fewer faculty to pay, fewer materials and facilities to manage. But that doesn't explain why the Erie campus has low tuition with traditional curriculum. LECOM isn't cutting corners: board scores would be crap, and word would get around, if they were. I think they're just making difficult-but-smart choices, like not having hard-copy journal subscriptions or lots of books. I think that NOT providing housing is another smart choice.

I'm very starry-eyed about this school, but I also worked in industry for 20 years, and I have a couple of clues about how businesses are run. I believe that LECOM is just EXTREMELY well run, fiscally. I'm planning on having a lot of conversations with Dr. George and others to get my brain around how they do it. I suspect it's just a no-perks, no bull**** environment that doesn't rely on a traditional tenure structure to keep staff motivated.

Seems reasonable to me. The library is on the spartan side I guess, but more than adequate for anything I've needed. Med school's not like undergrad where you might be doing a research paper on some obscure topic and tracking down a bunch of journal articles. The information you need is readily available; assimilating it all in the allotted time is the challenge.

From my interviews, I would say some schools seem to be more heavily invested in technology - lots of flat screen TVs all over, sim people, etc. I guess some of this stuff might be cool, helpful for learning, etc. but, given the choice, personally I'd rather have the lower tuition.

There are many med schools that primarily take In State students only. Tuition at these places is often super low. Sure, they get some funding from the state, but they aren't raking in the bucks...The bottome line is that schools are charging as much as the market will bear, which just isn't right.

Props to LECOM for dealing with this...however they did it. Obviously the tech things like Dragonwell mentioned...I noticed the skimpy library, and was very proud actually (yay e-books!). The lack of those silly mechanical patients (come on...those are lame!)

As for tuition being "low" and the idea of "costs being controlled", consider that during your 3rd and 4th year you'll be continuing to pay 30k with, from what I can tell, no actual cost of education (preceptors are not paid, school doesn't have a hospital).

I think they're comparing apples to apples by comparing LECOM to other private schools. Never will be able to "compete" with some of the in-state tuition that some state schools can offer because of "subsidies".

Compared to those, Lecom-B is a bargain. And, the argument that they don't do anything in 3rd and 4th year so why do we have to pay is a silly one. They know what it takes for 4 years and they divide the cost by four-- it's that simple. Still, Lecom-B can do it for less than other schools. They are the least expensive DO private school and near the bottom of all private med schools. That's the bottom line.

As far as amortized tuition costs over 4 years, why not ask an LECOM dean of your choice where your money is going? This is a school that should have pride in that answer: it has nothing to hide.

That is ridiculous. Baylor is about as big-name as med schools get too. The Texas Medical Center is just about the most awesome thing I have ever seen. If I could go back and do it all over again, I'd have my **** together, and I'd be headed to Baylor or Southwestern (which isn't much different in price).

It really depends on your state...my state kinda sucks, and doesn't have that cheap of tuition at my state MD schools.

Comparing just tuition and fees:

State MD school #1: $24204
State MD school #2: $27188
LECOM-B OOS cost: $27500
State MD school #3: $31305

My state sucks. 1 is cheaper (and it's technically private), 1 is the same price, and the third is way more expensive.

All this being said, I do think clinical rotations and application fees will cost more at LECOM-B than at my state schools...for whatever that's worth.

Yup, I got it in the mail today 4/10 dated from 4/8, and my check was cashed on 4/4. So, expect it a week after they cash your check maybe.
