Likewise👍 We need to represent for LECOM:meanie: I'm coming up mid July. Anyone else?

Beginning of June :biglove:

And btw I really need help figuring this out. After I accepted my financial aid award...what do I do now?? When I go to the website, it says Step 2:
To apply online for the LECOM Federal Stafford Loan, T.H.E. Federal Graduate PLUS Loan, or T.H.E. Private Loan, follow the instructions below.

bla bla...didn't I already apply for the stafford loan? Wasn't I already awarded money??

The website also says I can apply for it by:You will have the option to electronically sign (E-Sign) your Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) with your Department of Education PIN, download a pre-printed MPN or have T.H.E. mail you a pre-printed MPN. Which brings me to my next point:

And then I got something in the mail today from Loan Processing Center saying they received my application for a Stafford loan and to sign and return the promissory note. If I didn't do the online thing why did they mail this to me (or did I??). Also on my promissory note it says #8 Lender Name: LECOM, St. Paul, MN 55164 (??).

Help 👎

I got that too. I signed it, and sent that baby off.

thats what I did. I was confused at first because I signed them online and then got them in the mail. I signed them anyway...cant hurt.

I'm moving up in early July. We just ordered my computer the other day and I'm getting super excited!!

As far as the loan stuff goes, it is confusing. I called the people to figure out what to do. But my guess would be if they sent you something in the mail you must have at least started the process after accepting the "award" from LECOM. Basically LECOM "preapproves" that you'll get that amount, but you need to actually apply for the loan yourself. So if they sent you a form, make sure it is filled out completely (mine wasn't), sign it and mail it back in and that's it. I got two forms which were different but ended up being for the same thing, so if their is confusion give them a call, they were helpful. sorry for the rambling.

I have my physical this Monday, so I have a question about the alcohol test...is it zero tolerance, or is it just a test to see who is stupid enough to show up at the doctor's drunk? I graduate tonight and my birthday is tomorrow, I have no intension of getting plastered, but it'd be nice to at least have one drink!

When you take the blood alcohol test make sure they clean your arm with iodine. You'd be surprised how many go to grab that alcohol swab+pity+

I had about eight drinks the night before my test and it turned out negative. 👍 However, After they took my samples, they told me that they can only do a urine 8 series. 👎 I'm hoping that will be good enough for the Gestapo since it set me back quite a bit. It seems that the only difference between the 8 and 10 series are tests for tricyclic antidepressants and methadone.

Soooo is it urine test or blood test...? Is urine just for the physical in general you're talking about?

I didn't know we had to pee in a cup, I can never do it, the pressure gets to me 🙁

Blood and urine. I too have a touch of stage fright, but I chugged a lot of water about an hour before and held it until they gave me the green light so it was not a problem.

The cheapest alcohol test is actually a breathalzer if you can find a local place that has one. The occupational health place in Erie has one, so you can just do it when you get here if you want.

Make sure that you keep copies of everything, because my alcohol test got lost hence my knowing about the breathalizer.

I just went to LabCorb, they took some blood, and that's all I know.

I'd have no reason to fail either test, so I'll assume everything is fine. Unless them using an alcohol swab makes results weird, like someone said above...

if ever you have kids: they make you pee in a cup at every pre-natal visit. So, that's like 15 times or so for each pregnancy. I guess it helps that you always need to pee when you're knocked up...

Congrats to all the graduates!

I haven't been in school full time in 3 years and I'm starting to worry about the courseload this fall. :scared: Looking forward to it too though. 👍 Oh, and I started packing today. I'm moving up to Erie in a few weeks! See you all there...

My boyfriend just got me a Graphire4 Wacom Tablet for my birthday! 😀

Cooooool. 😎

I'm gonna go up there for 4 days next week (2 are driving) to find a place to live.

Can someone please remind me what the bad areas of town are? Thanks!

Well you can kind of tell by the condition of the homes in the area. For instance, the lower east side seems to be run down and from what I've heard not the most popular area to live in. Your best bet would be around the school, above w26th st, east side in the 50s and millcreek.

I hate to call you out on this one, but I'm a phlebotomist. 🙂 Using alcohol preps before an alcohol blood test is usually not an issue, even though the test checks for low molecular weight alcohols (like isopropanol). Here's a link I found that talks about prep before the draw.

They used alcohol on me. No problem.

👍

I just got a letter in the mail from the lender saying that they received the request for the loan and requested additional info from me or the school, and not all the info needed to approve the loan has been received (thus deactivating the loan). I don't believe they have sent me anything asking for additional info...should I assume they requested info from LECOM? I've sent in the promissory notes a few weeks ago. Anyone else having this issue, or am I the sole lucky one?

i don't have health insurance and I just got the bill for the physical and labwork LECOM required me to get to enter school. It cost A THOUSAND FREAKING DOLLARS. But I can completely understand why they require a 315 dollar drug and alcohol test. I mean, mothers of two smart enough to get into med school are often drug-abusers who lack the intelligence to flush their system before getting an announced drug test. 👍 I am so beyond broke now. I really should have just gone into advertising or something...

My bill was about $350 for everything, including a $75 tetanus shot. Doesn't compare to your $1000, though. Can't wait to get health insurance...

I just got my first of the 3 hepB vaccinations! Do ya'll know if I have to have all three before I can matriculate?

I just got my second Hep B today! and 1st varicella

I called the school a few weeks ago and they said you would be fine as long as you have the 1st 2 hepB before matricualtion

I just got a letter from LECOM and heard back regarding the PCSP program. Anyone else? Mies, did you receive anything? Asking because I know we were together during that interview. Good luck to all! Hoping to meet everyone up there come July!

So i got that same letter. I called the 800 number on the letter and talk to a representative. LECOM changed the way they filed some of the loans and if you filled out the info before they made the change then you have to update you info. It was easy....They were on the phone with me and walked me through how to change the info on the web. Took about 5 mintues.
Hope this helps.
😉

Yeah, I called them several days ago. Turned out their computer didn't like the city of one of my references (the city has two words in its name). 🙄

Congratulations on getting in! There are some places where you can get your hep B and PPD done in Erie, which does not cost as much as other places. Many current students go there.
Also, if anyone is interested, Im trying to sell my furniture for cheap (bed, desk) before leaving in end of july, PM if interested.
Good luck and enjoy!👍

Hey Guys!
Scheduled to take the boards in one week from today -- and am getting kinda psyched! Let me know if you have any questions about LECOM before you get here, or while you are here -- [email protected] . I was here for about 3 years now -- (was a post-bac). Also, let me know if anyone of you, or anyone you know needs a place to stay when they get here (it's fully furnished - so you won't have to pay for furniture you'll get rid of in like 2 years anyways) -- I'm renting out my place which is about 6 min away from LECOM (I put pics and a description in the classifieds section).

Good luck! 👍

hey guys.......if anybody is looking for an apartment.......we have 3 people and need a fourth for a four-bedroom house.....its less than 2 mi away and is a luxury home.......im me if interested Nickb423

Everyone, meet your new, LECOM 2011 class gunner! :meanie:

Ahh, but a gunner shouldn't be getting their facts wrong.

From their cited source: "Factors that can interfere with your test and the accuracy of the results include:
The use of rubbing alcohol to clean the skin before inserting a needle to draw blood. "

Instead, you should cite an actual journal article, preferably one that actually supports your claim:
Malingre M, Ververs T, Bos S, van Kesteren C, van Rijn H. Alcohol swabs and venipuncture in a routine hospital setting: no effect on blood ethanol measurement. Ther Drug Monit. 2005 Jun;27(3):403-4. PMID: 15905814

Yea yea, it would just be nice if people looked stuff up instead of keeping myths alive. It looks like I've met my match though with FieldDoc. 🙂
