I don't really know about LDP but ISP has an exam about every 2 weeks or so. PBL one about every six after Anatomy had been completed

LDP has an exam mostly every week... It's pretty grueling and a VERY difficult schedule! It's probably good for people who need that extra motivation and "drive," but for people that are self-motivated I would think ISP is a better option! If you are at all in doubt, APPLY ISP and switch into LDP if you don't like it! They tell you that you can't switch pathways because they don't want students doing this, but take my word for it... Anyone who wants to switch FROM ISP-->LDP was able to from our class, and everyone pretty much does the same thing during anatomy anyway(with the exception of PBL)... Just a thought

I am an MSIII at LECOM-Erie currently and I had numerous people in my class get pulled off the waiting list... One of my close friends was pulled off the waiting list THE WEEK BEFORE classes started, so never give up hope if this is your only option!! Just call the school every once in a while to check up on things, and have hope! She is a very successful student, so don't think that because your on a waiting list your going to have troubles in school... You'll do great and god luck!

Funny, I just got an interview invite for 3/26. Not going since I took a faculty position in the PA Program at Medical College of Georgia...but I suppose it's a little bit of validation to be asked, even so late in the game. 😎

It's never too late.

Last year I turned in my primary app at the Feb 1st deadline and I turned in my secondary app at the end of March. I interviewed the last week of April and received my acceptance letter two weeks later.

If you never turn in your secondaries, that's a guaranteed no. If you turn in your apps and give it a shot at least you have a chance. Although you probably should have some good stats if you're hoping to get in this late. At the very least, you've gotten on their radar so you can either get waitlisted and come off it or be in a better position for next app season.

I have to decide between two acceptances I have LECOM Erie and KCUMB and I need some serious help😕. Currently I am not thinking about the cost, weather, curriculum or anything related to the first two years except for clinical education like standardized patient program. Here is what I am considering.

1. Clinical rotations during 3rd and 4th year: I am interested in urban centers and a good size hospital for rotations. I know we sometimes get to do a lot more in smaller settings but this is a personal preference and I guess everyone is different. Also I am interested in rotating in the eastern part of the country. So how easy is to do all of the above at LECOM. Also does the admin help you at all for setting up your own rotations.

2. Match and Residency: I am not looking for a very competitive residency program at this time but it is always good to keep you options open. I personally feel that Match lists in this case are not that helpful. I am looking to do my residency in the East and was wondering how do program directors at allopathic programs view LECOM? Is reputation important at all?

Any help is appreciated. I am especially interested in hearing from 3rd and 4th year students. Thanks in advance.

well gracie, i had to make a similar decision, except i had dmu to think about. i decided lecom first because I also would like to live in the east coast and more directors are more familiar with LECOM because they get more applicants than from KCUMB and dmu.

Also the neighborhood/are that kcumb drove me off. Read this thread for more details.

Thanks for the link not sure how I missed that one. Well the neighborhood does not really scare me. I have lived in a city which up until two years ago had the worst murder rate. Plus I volunteer in the inner city so I have seen some really bad places. I have learned how to deal with that. But your point about the recognition is certainly valid and makes sense. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I am trying to fill out the BC/BS enrollment form and it says to put down the effective date of coverage and the originial effective date. Is this the day when I start med school? This is weird. I was waitlisted last Weds so I checked my portal today and it has erased everything. It says under admission status that there is no information available and under required letters it says nothing has been received.

Last year we had people called up 3 days before classes started telling them there was an open seat. It happens, if you are on the wait list you hope it happens to you.

So did they say at your interview if they are still offering spots at Seton Hill, or is that rather full as well? I'm a little confused with the two campus thing...

There may have been a glitch in their database. I deal with those issues everyday. Clients complaining that WE(Bank's IT) deleted their records and secs later everything is back on there.

Re: waitlists. A few years ago my cousin was waitlisted at her first choice PCOM and got into LECOM, so she accepted. Actually moved up to Erie, got an apartment and started classes, then a week and a half in heard from PCOM that she'd gotten in off their waiting list. She moved out of Erie the next day and back home to Philadelphia and started at PCOM 48 hours later.

There's always hope if you're on waitlist 😉

Ok I'm completely confused and need some advice. I ranked my preferences I put them in the following order: LDP-Erie, PBL-Seton Hill. When I checked my status page on 2/18 I noticed that both LECOM-Erie and LECOM-Seton Hill were listed under Programs. Under LECOM-Erie it said a decision was made and I would find out in 10 days. Under LECOM-Seton Hill it said a decision was made and I would find out in 30 days. I figured this meant I was accepted and was going to be given a choice of the 2 schools. Well my letter came today and it says I was accepted to LECOM-Seton Hill. It mentions nothing about Erie or LDP. Now I really wanted LDP because I do best in that format. The letter I got included a letter from Amy, a letter from the Provost Sylvia, a matriculation agreement and a form to fill out my future contact information.

My confusion is this...has anyone else been accepted to only Seton Hill? And is it possible I might get a separate letter about LECOM-Erie?

Truth be told I was waitlisted at PCOM and if I had gotten off the waitlist I would have packed my things and moved to Philly from Erie, but I didn't so here I am

It really would be worth dropping the deposit, going through a huge hassle right when classes started, and spending a ton more on tuition/housing to switch to PCOM?

It would have been closer to family back home. Don't get me wrong, every school has it's good and bad points and I'm sure PCOM would have been no different I just would have preferred to be a two hour car ride from home instead of an 7 hour car ride.

If I would have gotten into NYCOM I would have gone there, 20 Min from home to school.

Uh, sorry to disappoint. Don't know who Saba is, but I wouldn't waste my time making something like that up. Or maybe Saba knows my cousin 😛 She's now in her second year of FP residency at the former osteopathic hospital in Lancaster, PA.

Maybe you heard a similar story already because it's a more frequent occurence than you realize. Is it really so hard to believe? It's common knowledge that people make it off the waiting lists all the time up through the first week or two of classes. Ask any first year med student and they'll confirm that. Of course some of them had gone ahead in the meantime and enrolled at other schools where they were accepted. I'm just not so sure how many of them actually leave and transfer on a dime when they get the news.

I know if I got waitlisted at my top-choice but accepted elsewhere, I'd cut my losses and take the second choice. And if I got in during the first week of school I'd probably be willing to transfer, depending upon how begrudgingly I'd enrolled at the first one.

And yeah, in this specific scenario- I'd leave Erie for PCOM too. Mostly for the same reasons my cousin did- it's next to home, she could rotate through and make contacts with the hospitals closer to where she'd want to settle and practice, and most importantly she could live at home and save the $20k/yr loans for rent and living expenses... not to mention the seven hour commute to see her family and boyfriend. Makes perfect sense to me.

I've been looking through old LECOM threads and saw that a lot of people called Amy to ask questions about how to strenthen their application. I don't know why, but it never occured to me to send additonal letters of rec I have several I didn't send with my initial application. Does anyone know if they'll accept additional supporting material for waitlisted students? Has anyone talked to Amy lately? I'm guessing she's pretty popular, I wasn't sure how difficult she is to get ahold of.

Ahhh! I'm supposed to be interviewing on Tuesday and my flight has been canceled (I'm coming from the east coast where we're supposed to get about a foot of snow). Anyone else in this predicament? If so, how are you getting there? I can't get another flight/bus/train. Is it worth it to try to rent a car? I'm freaking out ...
