My buddy is the program and is in the class of 2010, but from what I understand you actually will apply to be accepted into the pathway after you have finished the first twelve weeks (Anatomy, Histo, Embryo), and based upon your performance in those classes they will accept you into the program. I believe there are 8 spots for this years 2012 and 12 are expected for next year 2013, although this may be hearsay because I am in PBL and just went to the initial PCSP meeting. If you are really interested in the program you want to rank it as number one on your list when you interview. Then throughout the first twelve weeks the directors of the program will meet with you like once a month and give you the details of rotations and residency etc. Good luck with the interviewing, I am rooting for you.

E-mail is the best way to get a hold of anyone in admissions. I had trouble as well last year trying to call, but I quickly found that e-mail was the quickest way to get anything done.
 
haha so i just got a voicemail asking if I wanted to do a LECOM interview MONDAY. talk about short notice! well they said there were some cancellations and since i'm from Erie it's not too hard to get there...a little mind boggling though!
 
When I login to the portal to get my 'status', there is actually no status button or window, only the view 'Folder Items' button. I called the tech guys and they told me they had to remove it because of problems. Does anyone else have the same issue. It was working fine up until a few weeks ago. Thanks.
 
Would any LECOM-E students like to tell me more about the dress code? I understand business dress for clinical functions but according to the handbook, you really have to wear slacks shirt and tie every day for every school activity be it lecture, lunch or studying. Why? If we are all adults being entrusted with the care of human lives, why can't we be trusted to dress as we like while we perepare very hard to join medicine? Is it a religion based school? I can't find much in the way of explanation in the LECOM handbook.

This is good news. I just asked this question a few posts up as I had the same thing happen to me. Guess it effected everybody. Just thought it was me...

Yes dress code is enforced monday - friday 9 am to 5 p.m.. The reason is this, you are going to be a professional therefore you must adhere to a professional standard and this is one of them. The only time you are allowed to not be in dress code is when you have OMM lab.

Why can't you be trusted to dress the way you want? I suppose its because the school wants a professional atmosphere and doesn't want guys and girls looking like they are going out to a club, bar, etc after classes. Some girls I know in class would wear clothing that is much more revealing if they could get away with it while other individuals would wear nothing but sweats all day, every day.

It basically comes down to this. If you don't like the rules then don't apply, the school has more qualified applicants then seats so people who don't like the dress code don't apply. Besides at some point it's time to grow up and many people don't recognize that fact. If you are going to be a physician you should start acting like one from day one not the first day you see a patient.

You may think my answer is harsh but at some point it's time to stop whining about having rules applied to you and start taking responsibility.

Sure I'd be glad to comment.

First of all, I'd like to say that I've only been a student here for a few months, but the more I learn about the program the more I really like LECOM. I know that a lot of pre-meds think that LECOM has a lot of rules, but what I'm learning is that most of the rules benefit the students. They're hard on us because they are trying to make us good candidates for medical programs. They make us attend lectures because we need to hold ourselves accountable when we are working in the hospital. They ask us clinical correlation questions in front of 250 other students so that when an attending pimps us on rounds we don't crumble under the pressure. We dress professionally every day because that's the first thing an interviewer is going to notice when you are trying to land an internship. Plus you won't need to buy a new wardrobe in your 3rd and 4th year (you will be expected to dress professionally every day).

On another note, there are many of other schools that have dress codes and you don't see many people complaining about them. (University of Pittsburgh being one of them) Just something to think about.

Wohoo got an interview!!!...and its my first interview! Any tips? Also what do ppl like about the school?
 
congrats! i just interviewed there and it was my first one as well. Simple tip: BE YOURSELF. It was a very friendly and relaxing experience..there is no reason to even worry about it/be nervous
 
I just wanted to let people know I interviewed at LECOM-E last week and loved it. I thought the campus, students, faculty, employees, labs... were all great. I think the dress code makes a huge differance in the attitudes of the students.
I spent the rest of the day with a MS-1 and a MS-2. One's doing ISP and the other LDP and they gave me a pretty good idea of what it's like. I feel that I would get an above average education here as compared to some other schools I've visited.
I hope I get in here so I can start planning...
 
By closed file, does this mean that they have not looked at your stats and extracurricular's? How does this work?
 
They ask you about some of that stuff in the interview..they already know you have qualified stats for an interview, so they are basically trying to get an idea of your personality. It was very conversational
 
How long did it take to get notified of an interview from the time your secondary application was complete?😱
 
I just received notice of an invite for an interview on November 24th. This is my first D.O. school interview so I am really excited. Does anyone have any stats on the number of applicants interviewed at LECOM vs the number of interviewess accepted? I'm just trying to gauge my chances due to the interview invite. Thanks
 
summer, my secondary was processed 9/12 (but I still need to send in my D.O. letter) and they called me 9/26 for an interview 9/29...the quick turn around may have had something to do with the fact that I like here and could just swing by after they had some cancellations

at the interview they told us that 4,000-5,000 primaries usually come in and they get around 2,000+ secondaries, interview 900 people then take a third of those for acceptance..I suppose it varies depending on how many of those accepted actually matriculate

Don't worry about stats and percentage who actually get in. Just concentrate on putting your best foot forward, relax and the interview will be fine. Just don't drive yourself up a wall by trying to find out how many people get in, interviewed and apply.

Rugger14 -- In a section of my MCAT, my score didn't increase and I would normally think to bring it up before the interviewer asks about it. Is this not a good idea at this closed file interview unless they bring it up first?

Don't volunteer more information than needed. If they want to know about the differences in your MCAT score they will ask you.

So, any current students (or others), how exactly to rotations work? From the handbook and website it says groups of 13 are given a list of hospitals to choose from, and...does this mean that you move every rotation? Or do you choose one of these hospitals for your core rotations? I've got a wife and kids, so obviously I'd like to be in nearly the same place as much as possible. Thanks!
 
i talked to a third yr and from what I can gather, you work in your group and hopefully those with the desire to move around a lot team up with those that want to stay in one place..hmm I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I do know it is possible to do all of your rotations in Erie. You could do almost all in say, Cleveland, but I think there are some in Erie (Millcreek Community Hospital-LECOM's teaching hospital) that are mandatory
 
anybody else interviewing december 8th? (geez that's a long time away, but I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!)

I got in as well. I interviewed on Sept. 25th. 🙂
 
I interviewed on 09/12 and got my acceptance on 09/22. Definitely psyched to get into a school. Had an interview at UNECOM last week, and scheduled for an interview at KCOM in November. I think I am going to cancel my interview at KCOM cause I really liked LECOM, especially the curriculum and the PBL pathway (which I have been accepted into). I know there is not a formal ranking, but what do people think of the two schools, KCOM and LECOM ??
 
I like both of the schools, they each have little something extra to offer. If you absolutely love primary, go to lecom. If you definetely want to specialize, look more into KCOM. They matched 4 students into neurosurgery in 2007 and their alumni base is over 100 years old. Older than some MD's.

Go to your KCOM interview for sure. You will be fairly surprised.

I have visited TCOM, considered probably by many as the top notch D.O. school. These schools are comparable to TCOM. Both schools also have great rotation sites.

As I move further along in my interview process, I will repost my decision and why I choose it.

LECOM-Erie made my day last week with my first interview invite! I'm from upstate NY but have never been to Erie...my interview is Dec 5th so I'm pretty sure it's going to be cold as hell.

Are there any runners out there? I talked to someone who said they did the Erie Marathon and it's in a great park on the lake. Does anyone know how close is that to the school?

I'm a runner and I actually just ran a 5K race this morning. The park on the lake that you heard about is Presque Isle which is where my race was. It's gorgeous and has a great paved trail for running and cycling. I would say that its about a 15-20 min drive from school depending on traffic/weather. Check out erie-runnersclub.org for more info on running in Erie. There are also Tri and cycling clubs in Erie. Any other questions pm me and good luck with your interview.

Yeah, I love running by the lake. No traffic nice and quiet. The winter when it snows will be rough for that since I don't think they plow their trails. But we'll see

so a few questions, where did everyone stay when they went? where is the best place to stay? anybody else interviewing the 11th, and does anyone know if interviewing the 11th is really late?

LECOM has hotel listings on its website. I stayed at the Days Inn, about 15 mins (slow driving) away from the school. The rate was $44 a night but I was upgraded. The front desk said the upgrade was by LECOM. That, plus the goody basket were nice touches.
 
Well I was upgraded to the "Honeymoon Suite." I don't know if this is standard practice on behalf LECOM. The only complain I had was the room had an ashtray in it, meaning it was definitely a smoking room. I couldn't really smell any smoke, but there was a hint. I survived and nothing smelled when I put it on. The room had a king size bed and sofa, shower, and whirlpool tub. I couldn't figure out how to get the tub to work :laugh:. The bathroom was probably 2X the size of my bedroom. Breakfast was a bit disappointing. I knew it was continental, but I thought there would be more variety. Also, a fire alarm went off but was immediately silenced. I don't know if they found the problem, but we weren't evacuated.
