LECOM Erie Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just came back from the interview, interview was conducted in group (7-8 people), questions were straight from those 9 questions posted earlier, they were going to start group discussion but our group asked a lot of questions so they never got to it. Overall, it was very relaxed although I was nervous as hell. Good luck everyone.

I was also at the 9/9 interview and this thread has been great. All the information given about the interview structure was completely accurate. 40 total applicants, broken up into groups of 8 with 2 interviewers. My group was asked to individually introduce themselves and what they have done in their careers up to that point.

From there we were each asked a single question: Problem with a prof, Where do you see yourself in 20 years, proudest accomplishment, inspirational prof story, etc.

After that group questions were given out: What did we think about primary vs specialized payscales, healthcare: privilege or a right, are patients customers, how might you be able to make your practice more successful?

Overall, the interviewers were very nice, laid back, and conversational. Just relax and be yourself; easy to say but hard to do on interview day. Good luck!

Awesome! I was surprised how many people raised thier hands for considering HPSP. Well if you ever have any questions about the AF feel free to send them my way..even if I am not positive on the answers, I can find someone who is! Air Force is definitely the way to go (in my competely biased opinion 🙂)!

Seconded, the AF is the way to go if you want a career in the military. if you have AF questions shoot me a PM, I can probably answer a good number of them too 🙂

Interview Invite! 12/9...haha, I can't believe LECOM is already booking interviews in December! Crazy

Ugh I was complete 8/16....so its not looking good I guess. My status still says Application is Under Review sooo not a rejection yet. Keeping my fingers crossed :xf:

Hey don't be too hard on yourself, I was complete in July and am still "under review."

So I interviewed on 9/9 and the post-interview paranoia and second-guessing has already set in! It seems like it takes about 2 weeks to receive the decision letter if you live on or near the east coast. I was wondering how long it takes for us west coast folks. Anyone know?

I also interviewed on 9/9 and it feels like time has stopped. I really didn't think this part of application would be hard.

Interviewed 9/9, just checked the portal and it said the committee has made a decision. Hopefully the letter gets here quick!

Yeah mine too. And I thought waiting for my MCAT scores was nerve-racking...

For those who were interviewed on 9/9 and got their admission status changed to "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 10 days.", do you guys have Seton Hall selection in the pulldown menu of the program?

I've never had this menu option, but it was newly added as my status changed - I applied for PBL pathway.

This will be the longest weekend for sure!

Me too! Now the waiting is even worse. Has anyone heard of anyone having this status on the portal being rejected yet?

I have seen some people say they will get a letter in 10 days and some say 30 days. What does that mean?

From what I can tell, the people who applied for SH get the message that says 10 days....Erie applicants get the message that says 30 days. Either way it looks like pretty much everyone gets their letter within 2 weeks of their interview.

After anxiously checking the mail every day for the past almost three weeks, got an email today that said they had the wrong address for me and my letter was returned to them 🙁.. I really hope all of this waiting pays off!

WOW that sucks!! Maybe they will cut you a break and tell you the official news over the phone/email?

I really wish they use electronic media as a means of communication. Did it really take 10 full days to get the mail after they made a decision?

LUCPM, Last year I applied and listed SH as my first choice. From my experience and some others on SDN, the SH drop down appearing was a good sign that you were accepted. I think you are in for some good news.

My heart almost sank to the pit of my stomach when I saw this post. You have saved me from another sleepless night. I chose PBL-Erie as #1 and PBL-SH as #2 choice. They said if 40 PBL seats in Erie are all filled up, then I will be automatically assigned to SH. I am actually leaning towards SH because I read somewhere that weather in SH is better than Erie.

Thank you for your reply and please tell me a little more about SH if you are currently at SH.

Best of Luck to everyone waiting for their decisions. Perhaps, we will be classmates next year!

Seton Hill is close to Pittsburgh, and is moderately snowy in the winter. But you won't see the constant lake effect snow that Erie gets.

So how much snow are we talking about it in Erie? Like "gee whiz isn't this 5 inches of snow nice" or are we looking at "dear god, what did I do to deserve this weather"?

"dear god, what did I do to deserve this weather"?

This. ~90" of snow per year means what, almost 8 feet? Snow doesn't melt quickly, especially when more snow arrives. In Jersey, it took close to 3 months for 2 feet of snow to melt. I can't even imagine how long 7+ feet does!

[edit] Just checked the stats. Erie, PA is ranked #13 on the list of "highest snowfall averages in the US"

I'm LECOM-SH OMSII... I believe the average snowfall for the Greensburg area is ~40 inches... so that's a lot less if the 90" in Erie is correct (I have no idea). I'd say its not that bad, but I grew up in the midwest and our average snowfall was 25-30." So I guess take that for what its worth.

Wow. I'm from Seattle where they close schools when it snows a quarter of an inch. 7 FEET of snow seems unreal! This might work to our advantage though if we're forced indoors studying all winter. No wonder LECOM students have such high COMLEX scores!

I've seen that it's possible go switch pathways after acceptance but can you change your mind regarding seton hill vs Erie?

The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days

This means rejection letter in the mail right?

As far as I know, this doesn't mean rejection if it's post-interview. I have "...within 10 days" for Erie campus and "...within 30 days" for Seton Hall campus.

What? The only thing LECOM is scoring high on for COMLEX is micro. Everything else is either just above, at or below the national averages. Overall, the school is slightly above the national average for COMLEX.

hey everyone,

I got the "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days." message that quite a few people have received pre-interview. The email also stated that I look under the "View Folder Items" tab to see if i had fulfilled all my requirements. Upon checking, it seems the only requirement I haven't meet is my DO/science faculty letter. I could not see this folder until yesterday and I have not gotten any messages to submit these letters (I thought it was not required to unless we were offered an interview) or any other message about my status apart from the 30 day one. I'm pretty sure its a rejection letter as this was the case with most people who received this message (pre-interview) but I cant find anyone who received this message and a similar update as mine on their "Folder Items". Is it possible I got rejected because I did not submit my recommendations or was it because my credentials were sub par?

I submitted my letters of recommendation after I got the interview invite. Doesn't look good broham 🙁 What were your stats?

I understand the letters should be submitted after the invite but I was just wondering why they would change my folder items to "requirements not met" for my LORs. It feels like a slap to the face if I'm being asked for recommendation letters right after they have rejected me. I'm certainly not surprised that I got rejected as my stats were 3.6 cgpa, 3.3 sgpa, 28 MCAT (10V, 10B, 8P) but I was just wondering why they would ask for letters.

My folder items have always been "Missing Letters of Recommendation" since I submitted my secondary application to them. I set my LORs on 8/11/2011 and they didn't get put into the system until 9/14/2011. I wouldn't take it personally.

I think that 6PS on your MCAT killed it for you bro. 🙁

The DO letter isn't a requirement until an offer of admission is made. The other letters are pre-interview after invite. Don't rush to judgment. It could be good news!!

Thats what is odd. I did not receive the missing LOR's update until I received the 30 day message.

Anyways, thanks for the help.

Thanks! I didn't really look at it that way. I have heard of two instances of where people received the 30 day message and were given an interview invite a week before the 30 days had passed so here's to hoping that might happen to me. :xf:

Hope it turns out ok for you bro 👍:luck:

On another note, I'm thoroughly freaking out now. I have exactly one week until my interview at 9/23. I've been over the standard 9 questions, plus a few others on the interview feedback and I'm a fairly good speaker (worked in customer service for many years). I just know that somehow, I'm going to mess it up. :scared::scared::scared::scared:

Just picture the audience naked. That way you'll at least have them distracted with your grin if you do mess up. 😀

Thanks for the info buzz-kill.

So anyone wanna speculate regarding the percent of interview applicants who get accepted? I'd guess roughly 50 %. Any takers?

So that's ~90%? Hmm...

What do you guys think of LECOM - Erie overall? I've already been accepted elsewhere but am considering going to this interview anyway.

I have lived in southwestern PA all my life and there definitely is not as much snow here as up in Erie.

I am a SH OMS-1. The campus down here is is just beautiful, rolling green hills, tree lined driveway, just gorgeous. We have access to the Seton Hill Univ buildings as well and they are also very beautiful. The school has a much smaller feel to it than Erie because it is smaller - there are only 100 students per class down here whereas Erie is about 250. The faculty here are just great - very accessible and friendly. Just a few weeks into class, lots of the faculty will already know your name. It's all PBL down here, of course, but this is such a fun way to learn if you can self motivate to keep up with your independent studying.

We have all the same rules as Erie - dress code, no food/drink, assigned seats for lectures, mandatory attendance at everything. You get used to it. 😛 About the only thing I regret is that we don't have the Wellness Center down here. I would love to have a gym like that. You can use the SH Univ facilities but they are quite modest.
