Hey guys, I got this question from the 1989 version of released exam questions. It's number 37 in dental anatomy.

The mandibular movement indicated in the drawing is
  1. protrusive.
  2. right lateral; working side.
  3. left lateral; working side.
  4. right lateral; non-working side.
  5. left lateral; non-working side.
Attached is the image.

They claim that the answer is C, but I feel that that is incorrect. What do you guys think? I appreciate the help.

yes,the ans is left lateral, working side.the diagram given is left side of the mandible.the arrow shows the movement of maxilla (medially).Indirectly it implies that mandible is moving in opposite direction(laterally).

The arrow in a diagram shows the movement of the oppsite arch. hope it clears ur doubt.

Thank you for the reply. However, I still have a doubt. How do we know that the arrow indicates the movement of maxilla?

@miles to go- identify the teeth given in diag when its mand. then arrows show path of max cusps on mand teeth and vice versa

Just want to confirm one fact- in lateral excursion, condyle and mand movement on workin side is pure lateral movement(buccal) right?? i read in kaplan's explanations that the condylar and mand movement on workin side is Outward and backward (distofacial)???

Q.which of foll does not contribute to arch stability?
cusps,root forms,embrasures,contact areas,pdl fibres??

Which of the following functional groups are considered essential for a substance to act as an amphipathic molecule??
A) Polar, nonpolar
B) Polar, negatively charged
C) Non polar, positively charged
D)Cyclic, hydrophilic
E)Branched, hydrophilic
* Substances such as amino acids that can act as either acid or base at neutral pH are amphoteric [ Note.. Glutamate, aspartate, histidine have additional potentially charged groups on their side chains]... still can't deipher the answer... 😕
Googled the answer.. amhipathic is not the same as amphoteric.. an amphipathic molecule is both lipophilic and lipophobic and so the answer is A)

A parathyroidectomized animal will exhibit which levels of calcium and phosphate ion concentration in the plasma?
A. Low calcium; high phosphate ion concentration
B. Normal calcium; low phosphate ion concentration
C. High calcium; low phosphate ion concentration
D. Normal calcium; normal phosphate ion concentration

which of the following statements BEST describe GTP-binding
proteins(G-Proteins)?
a.are important components of steroid harmone signal transduction
b.catalize the reaction which produces diacylglycerol... i think this shud be the answer
c.are tightly bound to adenylate cyclase
d.usually inactive protein kinase C
e.are membrane proteins

There are 10 bronchopulmonary segments in the right lung (3 in superior lobe, 2 in middle lobe, 5 in inferior lobe) and 8-10 segments on the left (4-5 in upper lobe, 4-5 in lower lobe). Each segment is separated from the others by a layer of connective tissue.
Taken from Wiki... doesnt help much.. However correct accepted standard is 10 segments

proteins(G-Proteins)?
a.are important components of steroid harmone signal transduction
b.catalize the reaction which produces diacylglycerol... i think this shud be the answer... wow!!! you really have read a lot.. have confirmed this answer from Ganong
c.are tightly bound to adenylate cyclase
d.usually inactive protein kinase C
e.are membrane proteins a small group of them are anchored inside the cell membrane (with the help of lipid modifications)... and thus are technically not membrane proteins; but are present in the cytosol
pls confirm
hope this helps..

Amongst the formula's we have to remember in Biochem -

pH= - { Log H+ }
Kw = [ oh- ] [H+]

anything to do with pK ?

log 1=0
log 2=0.3
log10=1

any more values we hv to remember ?

Will get back on the last one

Iodine deficiency
leads to increased production of T3 over T4
plasma T3 levels and at peripheral target tissue remain normal
Plasma T4 is decreased
Stimulates Anterior pituitary to produce increased levels of TSH
Increased TSH increases Iodide trapping and available iodine
So normal T3 secretion mantained
cause thyroid hypertrophy and goitre

Can't think of anything else..
Lineweaver-Burk plot
1/V0 = Km/ Vmax + 1/ vmax.. where intercept on xaxis is equal to -1/Km.. am sure you already know of this..

so ur answer is thyroglobulin.??

what is req in 3 C transfer ? Thiamine ? or sumthing else ? or there is no such thing ....

i think it should be muscle spindle coz i too noticed asda key always goes with spindles,i was always confused why that was the answer .here's ,my understanding abt this topic, both golgi n spindles help moniter muscle tension but let's say we r puttin weigh on our arm initially muscle spindle will respond to this increase in weigh that we r adding ,now one point will come wen the weight exceeds beyond our holding capacity n now the tendon feels the excess tension so in case of this excess tension the golgi tendon responds otherwise normal tone is maintained by spindles.

hope i said the rite thing ..

what is a dentin island?

what levels (like tsh, thyroglobulin, anti tsh receptors) elevated or lowered in graves disease, hypothyroidism?

Hi all... i just returned from prometric !!

since i was giving it for the first time... i can't really say much .. first half was easier than second half. My clinical cases were a lil tough....
but on the whole ... i hope it went fine :xf:

Thank you pb2007 , teethie, annie , anaita , elmos , wdent and everybody on this thread for helping me out ....

take care !👍

Thank you Cindrella for sharing your experience.
All the best for your scores and do not worry you will get good results.👍👍

Grave's disease is an autoimmune disorder characterised by development of antibodies to the TSH receptors; stimulation of the thyroid and hence causing an increase in production of thyroid hormones; resulting in the associated clinical signs and symtoms ie the gitre, ophthalmopathy, nerological manifestations, myxedema, cardiovascular manifestations, hyperflexia, hyperactivity etc

Patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Grave's disease frequently develop antibodies against Tg. Tg-specific antibodies help in the diagnosis of these diseases, but they also may be present in apparently healthy euthyroid individuals. ( Tg is a protein dimer which is stored in the follicular cells and is a precursor to T3 and T4)
Thyroglobulin levels in the blood can also be elevated in cases of Grave's disease But predominantly the Ig G are antibodies to TSH receptors and like TSH stimulate the thyroid to produce T3 and T4This leads to increased levels of T3 and T4.. and consequently decreased levels of TSH by virtue of negative feedback
Teethie... do let me know if i have understood right
