Sorry to hear that...that's a bummer.

Speaking of houses, wasn't today DMOM's official move in day?

I believe her move in date is Monday. I think she had her final this week and then they are taking off. She may be leaaving within the next few days b/c I can't imagine going straight thru with 4 kidos, but you never know. But I do believe she moves in Monday.

Hmmmm... So I'm basically sol for this house. There's no way in hell I can get it by myself and my grandmother told us that she doesn't cosign. So saturday I'll be driving to her apartment and begging.... 👎

🙁 Sorry to hear that. Were you preapproved for a mortgage before looking at houses?

If anyone would like to stop by, my wife and I will be in Harrogate working on our house Monday and Tuesday, maybe Wednesday if anyone wants to stop by and introduce themselves. PM me if so and I will give you a phone number and address. It is about 2 miles from the school.

We were there yesterday and today but didn't get a chance to go by the school, so nothing to report. It looks good from the outside.

Of course  😉

How you doing Dr.K? 😎

i am good...one more final to go tomorow but i got all of my other grades already and it looks good...thanks God because i was even having dreams that i got a D in orgo:scared:
so after tomorow i will have 2 week MCAT marathon and then hopefully something good will start coming out of this all😀 :luck:

I hear you. However, that MCAT is also often the sole predictor on if you get into medical school.

Lamont, don't even bother telling me anyone with a 22 MCAT can get into medical school, and don't tell me it's a decent score either.

lol ofcourse...i am not saying...i'm just saying
i will study my brains out for these remaining two weeks...1 FL a day😀...at least i am done with all material review so not it's just killing it with practice...
how have you been?
i see you are holing without a next ban pretty well 😉

I've been doing well. Actually, the hold was quite beneficial -- it allowed me to jump from a probable all-time worst (potentially 3.25 gpa) into a perfect 4.0 -- I've never made below a 3.60 for any given semester -- so it's only fitting to end it all with a bang -- 4.0 and a crap load of awards.

Other than that ... it's been going well in general -- summer is going to end too quickly

Let's hope I'm not banned after tonite or the end of this week

Congrats on the good semester. I did what I needed to do in the one class (nonpre-req, just for fun class) and am so happy it is done b/c I was so not motivated. It's no fun having to drive for an hour to go to an hour class, then drive home another hour, let alone being excited about all this med school stuff, looking for houses, trying to sell our condo, etc. It is nice to not have to worry about that dumb a$$ class anymore.

Dr. Kicia - as much as I loved UIC, I am happy to say buh-bye. It is a great school and all, but I am just over it after 6+ years. Hope everything went well for you there this semester. Are you going to be there next year as well? If so, what classes are you going to be taking? Good luck with the MCAT. Just make sure to take a day or two off before the test since you want to be fresh for the actual test. Relax the night before, eat a good dinner (I was told to eat carbs, so I had a great pasta dinner the night before the test), stay positive, and get a good night's sleep.

For those you of using EdAmerica for the GradPlus loan, there is an employment section on the application and since I am working currently, but won't be during school, I wasn't sure if I should fill it out or not. I called them today and they said to leave it blank.

Juneau and anyone else in the Harrogate area.......

Have you noticed anything for rent. My wife is heading there on Sunday to find a place for our family. We are looking for at least a 3BD/2BA because we have 4 kids.

Thanks guys. We have been in touch with many realtors and keep scouring the classifieds, but so far it has been hard going.

Looks like I am getting banned for "insulting" someone. Wow. I didn't even insult anyone this time around.

I didn't realize asking if someone wanted a cookie for double majoring was an insult -- particularly when the thread was about "what should I major in" or something in that range

I'm done with this self-righteous forum anyways.

So whatever, peace out and see you all come Fall.

Good luck and congrats to everyone who has made it to DCOM. Wish you all the best these next 4 years.

Alrighty then. People sure need to lighten up a bit. I guess finals pressure must be getting to them, or they haven't gotten over finals yet. Either that, or pre-application pressure. Anywho, good luck with everything and if you need us, you know where you can find us zivnI. rD :meanie:

See you in the fall

R.I.P. Dr. Inviz 🙁 :hello: (goodbye wave)

just FYI, check out this thread, and you will see Dr. I for his true colors. I may be wrong, but these posts had a large part to due with his ban

You say you didn't know you had a tumor until it was protruding from your neck. No vomiting, no other effects from the tumor. Tell me, was this tumor even malignant?

Now, if you had major problems related to the tumor, sure, I could "let you slide." However, in any case, you should have withdrawn (unless it "happened" towards the end of the spring semester -- in which case you didn't say so, either.)

There is a difference between sarcasm and being rude beyond belief. I think he has hit the second too many times. See ya in the Fall Dr. I

Man i hate UIC :barf: especially the science department. I have learned so much more in the CC then i ever did at UIC...my department (art history) on the other side is really good and so is psychology. I am taking one more semester to finish off my major so next semester i am taking all AH classes. I was going to take orgo lab but i was told my my friend that the teacher is totally nuts and i just figured i will take orgo all over at CC just so i don't have to suffer thru the 1 credit hr class that will consume all my time just to get a C. Sometimes i really wonder where all my money went over there. Labs are so old some of instructors should never be allowed to stand near another human being let alone teach😱

As for the MCAT i got it all figured. Will take 1 FL then the next day review what i got wrong for the whole day, make sure i get all the concepts down cold and then take another FL. This will allow me to take AAMC tests 5-10 and have a day off before the test to do some fun stuff 😀
And no problem with me eating carbs LOL...i love pasta😍

how are things going with you. Did you and wife have started the big move to DCOM yet...any news from CCOM?

Good luck in DCOM, Dr. I. Your acerbic wit and snide remarks will be missed around these parts. A moment of silence.

i 😍 Dr. I...i think he is really cool...and yes ppl have to lighten up. It always surprizes me how little patience the future docs have...this is really bad 🙁
One can only imagine what those who take everything in such a personal way will turn out to be...if their nerves can ever let them get thru med school🙄

I agree with you with UIC. Their labs are pretty old and I too hated their chemistry department. Dr. Kassner, who teaches biochem I, is awesome though - highly recommended. I too learned A LOT more from my CC classes. Many of the UIC profs are way too research oriented so they suck at teaching b/c it is such an inconvenience for them. I once had an engineering prof tell our class, on the first day, "I went thru the class list and noticed there are a lot of juniors in this class, even though it is a sophomore level class. Therefore, I am making this a junior level class. Also, I am here at UIC to do research. The dept said that I had to teach this class and that 25% of my time should be devoted to this class. I intended to devot no more than 25% of my time to this class so if you see me in the hall or whatever, do not ask me any questions b/c I will NOT answer them. If you can't make my office hours, that is your problem." What a freaking a$$hole.

Your MCAT plan sounds good. Just remember to relax and have confidence.

My wife and I will be going to TN next week to put a contract on a house, so moving will be happening soon. We just need to get our condo sold now. I haven't heard anything from CCOM and, quite frankly, I don't think it would make much of a difference right now. We are pretty much set on going to DCOM. We both believe that it is where I am supposed to go and I just love the school. The technology is second to none and the faculty and staff have such passion. It is difficult passing up on CCOM b/c it is a great school (one of the best) and perhaps I'm a little crazy by not going there (if I were accepted), but I really believe DCOM is where I should be. The funny thing is that if CCOM had accepted me right away, I never would have applied to DCOM. It's weird how things work out sometimes 🙂 👍

I agree...i belive things happen for a reason. I also want really bad now to get into DCOM...probobly even more then CCOM. I just have that feeling inside that DCOM would be the place for me. But we will see. I will be glad to get anywhere with my stats:laugh:
As for UIC i cannot wait to graduate and i am really mad at myself that i went there to begin with. I think they should really try to separate research from teaching. I am not interested in research but i want to learn...and it is really hard to learn when professor doesn't care and the only way to comunicate with your TA is to use the oldest language---> visual one....since they don't even speak english...eh🙄

I am glad no more science classes at UIC for me 😀

🙁 Sorry to hear that. Were you preapproved for a mortgage before looking at houses?

Sadly no. It was on the drive down that we decided we might want to buy a house and so going down we had nothing lined up. All I'd wanted to do was rent but oh well.

Just thought I'd ask and see if anyone is looking for a place to rent. When it comes down to it if there isn't anyone to express interest, there's no reason to buy a house.

Also, if you have pets and they get along with my dog, they are more than welcome to come as well.

House rentals....I haven't seen any in Harrogate. All of the non-school related apartments are always rented out. There should be something to rent in Middlesboro, but I really didn't look since I always planned on buying.

Tazewell is not too far away and may also have several rentals.

Let me know when you may be in town, if I am there, you could crash at my place. Understand, we just bought this house and we are getting it ready to live in for the next two years, so it needs a little paint as well as a few other things, but we do have a futon you could sleep on. This invite is open to almost anyone else. I am only there for a few days at a time.

There is a difference between sarcasm and being rude beyond belief. I think he has hit the second too many times.

No, his mistake was that he pissed off people who had the power to ban him. If he had limited his comments to people without the "advisor" or "moderator" icon under their name, he would still be here. There's a valuable life lesson in this whole thing, especially for those of you who have not yet started med school.

Inviz was at times rude, but also offered constructive comments and advice. The frequent cries that he "crossed the line" were sometimes warranted, but more often the plaintive whining of premeds who only wanted to hear upbeat and positive assessments of their situations. He was rough around the edges, sometimes confrontational, but always posted honestly. I prefered his posts far more than the typical "Everything is going to be okay" crap that permeates the premed forums, giving false hope and support to people who deserve neither.

I will miss him. Although he created his own situation, I firmly believe that banning him was a mistake.

Looked to me like he was just showing his maturity again.

For the record, Dr. I, I didn't know anything was wrong until I found a lump on my neck and still wasn't sure (nor were the docs) what was up even after I found the lump on my neck and went through some tests. Looking back on it, the usual side effects were pretty subtle in me for various reasons. If you have any interest in learning about it, we'll have to chat about it sometime.

I know how much Dr. I likes this place..proven by the amount of time he spent here. See you in the fall Dr. I...

Hey everbody, it looks like my family and I will be staying in Oklahoma to attend OU-Med. We found out yesterday and with the financial relief the offer was too good to pass up. I'll be checking back often to see how things are going.

Best of Luck to everyone!

Can't blame you there! Congratulations! That's very cool!

Congrats on the acceptance!!! I don't blame you for staying put in OK. I would have done the exact same thing if I had 4 kids. Do you have to move from your current home to attend OU?

I agree 100%. Yeah, Dr. I made the bed he lies in, but he did have some useful posts. I thought he did a great job on his "dubious chances" thread - straight forward, honest advice. Oh well, now we will just have to rely on DKM for some sarcastic humor :meanie:

I've gotta say that my taste for SDN has soured quite a bit over the last month. I don't know if I'll be posting here too much anymore. I too disagree with his banning... he's a medical student to-be and his opinions are and will continue to be useful to this forum even if that requires disregarding some of his less-than-optimal posts.

As someone who lost his mother to cancer, I think that what Dr. I said was inappropriate but it was also understandable to have some skepticism. I think that people often use illnesses as excuses when they really shouldn't be used and that it was acceptable for Dr I to point that out. He should have been more tactful -- to say the least -- but what he said was valuable to a certain extent.

Ultimately, everyone here needs to take a step back (including myself) and realize that we take this way too seriously. This is an online forum designed for entertainment and learning. IMHO, we are beginning to lose sight of that.

Dr. I, best of luck to you at DCOM. Try not to berate your simulated patients too much 🙂

changing pace...

how about the weather? Houston is doing amazing right now. I have spent the last week outside because it is beautiful! Anyone else enjoying this?

Meh, the weather in PA is off and on. Two days ago we had a veritable death storm of sorts, then yesturday was hot and humid, now today is cold and overcast. The weather is just damn crazy.

Also, did anyone pay for the blood work out of pocket with no insurance? I'm just wondering what it's going to cost me.

Double also, Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail is one of the top 10 funniest movies ever created according to Bravo. 👍

You bet I did! 👎 👎 👎

The lab I sent mine to charged $320 (just for titers, no urine test). That was after calling them and trying to negotiate a price. No luck there! 🙄
So your cost will probably be around $320 plus whatever the doctor wants to charge for poking you with a needle.

Has anyone seen Borat? It's now in my top 5 for all time funniest movies!!

Ugh. Hopefully my doctor will be nice seeing as how I've been going to him my entire life and I sent him a lovely fruit bouquet for writing me a LOR.

Hahahahhaha, Borat was one of those movies that was hilarious but also made you uncomfortable to watch because you couldn't believe what they were doing.

Oohhh... and my mother just told me that my sister is pregnant for the 4th time! I'm gonna be an aunt again!! 😀 I just wish they lived closer. 🙁

Best comedies for me (no order):

- Dumb and Dumber
- Wedding Crashers
- Meet the Parents/Fockers
- Dodge Ball
- Talladega Nights
- Basically anything with Ben Stiller or Jim Carrey I love

I haven't seen Borat yet. I've heard good things but some of the other bits I've seen Sasha Cohen do as Borat didn't really thrill me. They were kinda annoying - sorry. But I will see the movie before making any official judgement.

Marthea, congrats on being an aunt again!!! Very exciting. Lil Murph Dog will be an uncle too

I have always wanted to try one of those fruit bouquets. They look so cute and yummy.
Congrats on being an aunt! It seems like having four kids is a common theme for DCOM. 🙂

do any of you guys know how dcom handles their waitlist? i'm not sure where i'm ranked on the list, but i recently sent in updates, including a significantly higher mcat score, good spring semester post bacc grades, and another LOR from a graduate professor on its way. do you know if dcom is a school that will evaluate these and re-rank me? i'm not sure if anyone is privy to this information, but i figured if anyone knew, it would be someone on this thread🙂

That is kinda scary. But what I want to know is if this "theme" kicks is effective before attending or if you get it while there. I wonder if it is transmitted thru the first born if he/she is born while the mom/dad attends DCOM? Does this mean my wife and I will have four kids??? 😕 (No, she's not pregnant  ) I think its a conspiracy - the more kids DCOM students have, the more those kids may want to attend their parent's alma mater :meanie:

I don't know, but I will try to pry some info out of Mr. Carney when I visit next week. It doesn't seem as if DCOM has a ranked list from what I've seen people post about their waitlist letters and from what I remember at the interview. But sending in updated info, higher MCAT, LOR would have to help. If you haven't already, send in a LOI if you really want to go to DCOM as those may be helpful too. Anything you can do to show the school you are very interested in attending would have to help your chances I imagine. Nothing can guarantee anything, so all you can do is increase the likelyhood of them remembering you when going thru the list. Good luck!!!

😆 I thought about the 4 kids = DCOM thing too. You never know. But if/when (more likely when, my family's real good at having babies....) I get to that point, it won't be for a while. I couldn't imagine having kids right now. :scared:

thanks!! i would really reallyyyyy appreciate it if you could ask possibly ask mr. carney. i've already sent in a letter of intent, so i don't think there's much more i can do except wait.

I'm with you. I give mad props to each person attending DCOM (and every med school) who has kid(s), especially the women. Yes, fathers are integral in raising a kid and I will do my part when that time comes, but I have seen enough to know that kids, espeically the little ones, want their moms. Will my wife and I end up having a kid while I am at DCOM, most likely, but who knows when, just as long as it is not anytime soon 😉

So to all the student parents at DCOM 👍

do any of you guys know how dcom handles their waitlist? i'm not sure where i'm ranked on the list, but i recently sent in updates, including a significantly higher mcat score, good spring semester post bacc grades, and another LOR from a graduate professor on its way. do you know if dcom is a school that will evaluate these and re-rank me? i'm not sure if anyone is privy to this information, but i figured if anyone knew, it would be someone on this thread🙂

I was at DCOM today and was told by Paul Carney that the class is now full so I dont see much more movement off of the list. Sorry to everyone whos still waiting.

My tests ran me $30 for everything. At least insurance has pulled through for me once in my life. 👍 👎

thanks!! i would really reallyyyyy appreciate it if you could ask possibly ask mr. carney. i've already sent in a letter of intent, so i don't think there's much more i can do except wait.

Waiting is the hardest thing - trust me. It seems you've done all you can do for now, so just sit back and wonder...what exactly is Dr. I doing right now? :meanie: Or you could come out to TN, bunk with Mr. Carney and offer to mow his yard, take the dog for a walk, make him breakfast/lunch/dinner, or send another LOI with some cash inside. Nonsequential $20 bills seem to work best :meanie:

I can guarantee there will be some movement happening. Tiago is going to OU instead of DCOM, so that is a spot. I think a lot of it is PR, like when they tell you a baseball game is sold out yet there are tons of seats empty. It always sounds good to tell people the stadium/class is full b/c it gives others the feeling that something good is happening over here and that they should try them out.
