I was rather ticked they made us order them unseen. Are they men's, women's, or unisex? That really makes a difference on size. I sent the order in, but not until Sunday...I figured at the earliest it went out yesterday.

Yea... so if I forgot to place my order for the OMM tshirt and shorts by the 29th do you think it'd be too late to do it tomorrow? I mean they can't really say no if they're going to be pulling people off the waitlist, right? I can't BELIEVE I forgot to order them. I even RSVP'ed for the bbq...

Nascar, I look forward to hearing your decision. We would love to see you at DCOM in a few weeks, but I understand that CCOM is a great school, and your ties to Chicago. Although it feels like we have our first transfer student, good luck. I am sure some waitlisters are crossing their fingers.

Hello everyone,

I have finally made my decision. It was tough, but I have decided to attend DCOM!!!!!!!! I just love the school, the people, the area, etc, and I feel that it is the best fit for me. I talked with Dr. Leo for a few minutes yesterday and I must say that man is amazing. He just gave me the reassurance I was looking for and I have felt nothing but calm and happy with my decision. There has just always been a part of me that said DCOM was just too good to pass up and I knew that within minutes of my interview there. A few weeks ago, I knew that I would go to DCOM regardless of what CCOM said, but when the call came, it just caught me off guard and sent my head spinning like crazy. I know that I have made the right choice and I can't wait to get to TN and start this crazy journey!!!

Thanks guys for all the support!

If some of you think hard, you might remember me -- finally decided to come back for possibly only 1 post .. all depends.

Good to see Nascar will be here ... passed on CCOM eh?! Nice. As much as I'd like to scold you for that decision, I can't. I'm not sure what I would do if I had that opportunity, but then again, I didn't apply to the "top DO schools" because they're 1000 miles from me anyway. The only thing that nerves me are the 3rd/4th year rotations. While they may have it all set up and whatnot, I wonder if our role will be similar to other MS-IIIs who would rotate there as their own teaching hospital.

DocMom will always be MommyMcDonald -- I wonder how she affords all these animals. Someone's gonna be in huge debt

Does anyone know what needs to be brought for Orientation? Of course, besides ourselves. I wonder how much ripping off will be done when we have to purchase the toolkit and other instruments.

I bought all my books. Bigwords.com is the best.

Hopefully, there's no uniform scrubs. They're leeching out enough of our money as is.

God, there's gonna be more kids and pets than students. 🙄

End of July, likely. Come in on the weekend and finish unloading/unpacking/organizing ... then comes the Orientation.

SDN has cleaned out just about every hated poster on here. No more PennyBridge from pre-allo (he got whacked), no DKM, no Northerner, etc. Looks like they got what they wanted, a boring and whiney group of pre-med students who want to know if they can get into an MD/DO school, nonetheless a top-tier specialty residency program, with a 0.9 GPA and a 12 MCAT because they went to Africa to save babies and discovered the cure for CA and have glowing LORs from Dr. Genius. Very nice, very entertaining 🙄

Welcome back. We definitely missed you around here. Things have been quiet for the most part. We need someone to toughen up some of these premeds j/k. Looking forward to meeting you and everyone else.

I'm sure I'll leave some people scratching their heads over my decision but that is fine. The biggest thing that kept CCOM in the running for me was the rotations. They are amazing, no doubt about that. But DCOM just seems to have this special something about it and I felt it from Day 1. I think the rotations in TN will be just fine, and besides, we have elective rotations we can do anywhere. As I've always said, this school is going to be awesome and the LMU campus is only going to continue to thrive. I didn't realize that they are going to have a PA program at LMU. They added this about a month or so after my interview, so that is exciting. They will also have the new clinic and a new science building too. I can't wait to see what else happens.

Thanks for the compliment. Eh, I wasn't exactly going for a hidden persona on here. Not like I intend on staying for a long time on SDN (I only figurred I'd be on here for a week, we'll now make it a few more and then you'll no longer see me on here). Figurred with it being close to that time, I'd say hello. I'm glad to see the support for my return.

Nascar, I don't know too much about the Chicago schools nor its hospitals. Personally, I've heard good things about the TN hospitals, but I also hope that our role is as significant as other med students in their own teaching hospital.

Happy 4th to you all -- to those already in TN, don't get any funny ideas ... this leads me to my next thought -- shooting goats in the form of firecrackers ...

The main hospitals downtown (UT, Fort Sanders Regional, Children's) are all great hospitals. I have talked to many physicians who are excited about having students to teach. UT, of course, has lots of residents and students (who are doing electives, they mainly stay in Memphis). I think we will learn hands on and actually be able to do more than the future students because there will be less of us. I'm sure the other hospitals will be great too....though I'm not real impressed with St. Mary's downtown (serious staffing issues) and very, very, very old and outdated.

Children's is listed as a core hospital, is that even possible? Seems it would have to be just a rotation site. It is a fantastic hospital, unfortunately 3 of the 4 of my children have had at least one stay, but it is super nice and updated and always seems to be well staffed.

I'm not up to par with the specifics of the individual hospitals, although St. Mary's website did look as tired as McD's attempt at making a joke -- still can't believe some of y'all fell for that one ...

I'd really like to atleast be a 2nd assist in the OR. I want to break the stereotype of DOs doing mainly Primary Care. It would be ironic if this class churned out more specialists than Primary Care physicians (Yes, out of 149, since we all know who's definitely going into Podunk FM) ...

So, are you staying put lrobin or are you all moving to another home closer to school?

In the last two weeks, FORTY horses have been seized by officials for being near starvation. These were two groups of twenty horses each. People have been practically giving livestock away because of the drought and the skyrocketing cost of hay. They actually turned cattle away from the market because they were so overwhelmed with them. I think there are going to be a lot of hungry animals around here if we don't start getting some serious rain. Anyway, of the horses were taken in by a horse rescue in Knoxville and they are looking for foster homes for them while they await their court date. So, guess who is applying to become a foster home for a few of those horses....🙄

You should all go to their website, click on available horses, and see the pictures. It is so sad. They have a horse on there that someone tied to the back of a truck and dragged along the road. 🙁

BTW, they are having a yard sale to benefit their organization and are accepting donations if anyone has any. I drove a bunch of stuff down there today....ALL THE WAY TO FARRAGUT!!! LOL! That was a long drive!😱

"The increasing incidence of autism spectrum disorder (560,000 in the US) is a serious threat to our children and in most cases the cause is still unknown. Some clinicians and parents have noted chronic infections, including tick-borne infections; including Lyme disease and the immune reactions to these infections are sometimes associated with autistic symptoms and autistic spectrum disorder. This meeting reviewed the data regarding this observation and possible explanations of this association with a goal to help reduce any preventable cases of autism spectrum disorder," states Robert Bransfield, M.D. of Red Bank, NJ.
Doctors are beginning to support this link. Dr. Joseph Burrascano, the former president of ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Disease Society) states his position on Lyme disease and Autism. "It is my contention that Autism is an inflammatory encephalitis cause by a pathogen such as Bartonella or Mycoplasma. I share the view that Bartonella is a major infection that may eclipse Borrelia Burgdorferi as the ultimate cause of the morbidity in chronic Lyme disease. Mycoplasma too is a major concern of mine- in reviewing my 7000+ cases, those patients who were relentlessly chronic, all at one point or another in their illness, were positive for Mycoplasma."
In fact, one speaker at the conference, Garth Nicholson of the Institute for Molecular Medicine has found that 58% of children with Autism spectrum disorder are also harboring multiple-infections, specifically Mycoplasma. "Since these chronic infections like Borrelia, Mycoplasma and Bartonella are known to suppress the immune system, it is not a stretch to assume that when the child was injected with obscene amounts of mercury, that his fate of having an autism diagnosis, would become reality", Duncan states.
Proof is on the way, with the data released at the Lyme-Autism Connection Conference and studies in progress, parents and doctors can be sure to hear more about this in the coming months.

UT's med students pretty much stay in Memphis and there are no other programs nearby so it will mainly just be us. There are tons of nursing students on the other hand (for you single males). I think there are something like 6 or 7 nursing programs that run through the Knoxville hospitals.

As for St. Mary's, it does have it's new branch (St. Mary's North) off Emory rd which is beautiful.

We decided to stay in our current home. I do not look forward to the commute, but it made the kids and my husband very happy. They kids get to stay at Concord Christian (except for Katie who homeschools b/c she is at the gym 4 hrs a day) and Katie is close to her gym and coach. If I am really suffering, then we will move next summer...sooner if needed. I think it will be okay though.

😆 LMAO!!! I thought you might have said you lived there. I knew someone said that they did. EEK!!! That is a LONG drive!!!! The place I went to was off of Campbell Station Rd. It is going to take you at least an hour and half to get to DCOM I think. Have you driven up there lately? I don't have AC in my car and I had the two babies with me, so we were all hot and sweaty by the time we got down there anyway. But, maybe some other time we can get together. I hate going to Knoxville! I was so happy when I got back through Lafollette and back to my beautiful countryside. LOL! 😀

😆 LMAO!!! I thought you might have said you lived there. I knew someone said that they did. EEK!!! That is a LONG drive!!!! The place I went to was off of Campbell Station Rd. It is going to take you at least an hour and half to get to DCOM I think. Have you driven up there lately? I don't have AC in my car and I had the two babies with me, so we were all hot and sweaty by the time we got down there anyway. But, maybe some other time we can get together. I hate going to Knoxville! I was so happy when I got back through Lafollette and back to my beautiful countryside. LOL! 😀

Yep, I've driven it and it takes right at 90 mins. I live a little West of Campbell Station rd, but that is my exit. I believe you turned right off the exit and you would turn left to go towards my house.

My plans for the drives are listening to lectures again.

WOW! Long drive. I know Mr. Carney commutes from Knoxville everyday and my husband has been working in Knoxville and has about an hour commute everyday. So, it is definitely possible. He just traded his Dodge Durango in for a Sebring. The cost of gas was killing us! That is the only thing that I can say about the drive. Make sure you have a car that is good on gas! 😀

You're right DocMom, I was all over that email about the cadavers 😀 I called Dr. Cross to let him know I was interested, so I am going to be part of the team It is a lot of fun and I am looking forward to the dissections. Nothing like splitting a pelvis, taking out a spinal cord, or removing a skull cap and then brain Those striker saws are so cool, but sometimes you just need a little extra persuasion, i.e. hammer and chisel. That was one of the more interesting purchases I ever made at Sears, a chisel set for the cadaver lab

It's nice seeing Inv...I mean EvilEye back. Nothing but laughter...although I'm not sure how long he will be able to resist those "what are my dubious chances" questions. He may have to hijack his own thread

Don't hate.😛 I have been a donor since a few weeks after I joined SDN and just now became an advisor. There is no correlation between the two. I have always supported SDN and now I can to play an even greater role.😀
