I know it's like a 8 hour drive (I make the same drive from San Francisco to San Diego a couple of times a year) but if you really want to interview than it might be worth it. If you leave in a couple of hours you could still make it and even get a couple hours of sleep if you have a hotel reservation.

I had connecting flights through Chicago for my interview and both were cancelled!!!! It was horrible. I totally feel your pain. See if they can fly you anywhere closer, anywhere in KY, VA or TN then you could drive a shorter distance.

Everything flying out of Chicago to that area was cancelled for today in, I tried Nashville and a couple of other places but no luck, and everything for tomorrow morning doesn't get in soon enough for me to make it,

As to driving, seems like an adventure but honestly I am afraid I would fall asleep behind the wheel. With all the fog and rain in the area its not safe for me. If I am not speeding and cutting people off I am actually a worse driver because I can't pay attention to the road then. And I can't find anyone to go with on such short notice.

Yeap this weather always causes stress, I had the same problem last tuesday, flew around the city for an hour before going to st. louis, refueling and coming back 3.5 hours after my expected arrival,

Oh man, that sucks! Definitely don't drive if you feel that tired! I guess you can call first thing in the morning and see if they can interview you on Thursday. Maybe you could stay an extra day in Harrogate? I'm sure they will accommodate you after having such a horrendous travel disaster! Get some sleep in Chicago and everything will be a little bit better in the morning. 😉
 
definitely call in the am. You shouldn't have a problem rescheduling, and I know you are not the first person this has happened to, so don't worry about it too much. Sorry to hear about all the trouble. I know the weather is bad in Chicago (heavy fog and rain) and it is the same thing here, so I'm not surprised about the delay. Hope everything works out 👍

to most of you, not being from the area, that name doesn't mean much other then the fact that he is the guy that payed for the school. But the fact that Debusk's name is on the school means that DCOM will succeed. DeBusk doesn' t do anything that is not first rate. He is a perfectionist to an extreme and has unlimited connections in and around the area. What Pete DeBusk wants, Pete DeBusk gets. There are a few big names in East TN and they basically form an oligarchy that controls the region. Pete DeBusk is one of those names.

I wouldn't worry about rotations, if you do your part and work hard, Pete DeBusk will make sure you have the tools to succeed

Chicago's weather is all messed up. Friday it snowed like 10 inches. Sunday it snowed 5-6 inches more. It rained today and it all melted and there is intense fog. I can't see past a 100ft. Tomorrow, we are supposed to get another 3-6 inches in the evening....its chaos here

That is another question I wanted to ask...how involved is Pete Debusk with the school? the answer is nice to hear..being there everyday...it means that he has his full heart into DCOM
 
For those of you who dont really know who Pete DeBusk is and where he got his money, google DeRoyal or simply to go DeRoyal.com. Yeah, he owns that. And they are a huuuge company supplying medical equipment and supplies all over the world. So not only is he involved with the school and wants it to succeed, he knows a thing or two about the medical field.




Just some background info about our benifactor. 🙂

yes, that's part of the reason he has such an interest in the school and the area. he has all sorts of projects going on around the campus now that the school is chugging along, but he's always open to suggestions
 
Yes, Mr. DeBusk did received his bachelors from LMU, but he also grew up in the area, so he has strong ties here. He is also here on campus (either DCOM or LMU) weekly. He is here making sure current projects are going well as well as seeing how things are going here at DCOM. He definitely is NOT someone who just wanted to have their name on the side of a building - he is an integral part of the school and its functioning, as well as the development of LMU. He is a great asset to have for a medical education, not only for his resources and money, but he seems like a great person who has unbelieveable connections all over the world, including Washington DC (as does Dr. Stowers).

As for rotations, DCOM has done a very good job making sure those are in place. Yes, things could change, as they could at any school (CCOM just recently lost a major hospital), but I don't see anything happening. From our understanding, our affilated hospitals are very excited about having us on board and are lookig forward to us starting. To my knowledge, we have rotations at every hospital in Knoxville now that St. Mary's bought Baptist. So now we have every major hospital in Knoxville - St. Mary's, Baptist, Fort Saunders, UT, and East TN Childrens Hospital, and all of the branches of these hospitals, as well as Erlanger Hospitals based out of Chattanooga. DCOM is also working on getting residencies setup with these hospitals as well. And the amazing thing about these hospital relationships is that they have been in place before interviews started last year (except for Baptist b/c St. Marys just recently bought them).

There is no doubt in my mind that LMU-DCOM will take care of us and provide us with the best 3rd and 4th year rotations possible. I can't wait to get started! Sorry, I had to get out some of my excitement! 😳

I agree...im glad I know this about Mr. DeBusk. It is amazing how far you can get in life by just knowing the right people 😉

and im sure mr. debusk will use his connections to make DCOM the best it can be
 
I got a call from Janette 7:08 am CST, and she said I can reschedule for whenever, even for tomorrow if I needed to, she let me do this friday even though the spots are full, and she said somebody will probably cancel and I can take theirs, if not I can still interview. I have to say I am real impressed by how nice and great everyone is over there.

But now the issue is the holiday inn in middlesboro is booked, are there any other hotels in the close vicinity I can use?

to be honest, i doubt the holiday inn over there is ever at full capacity other than holiday times

You'd be surprised.. its always the first to fill up... There is always something going on around here! My next choice is the Cumberland Gap Inn. Its nice, and even closer than the Holiday Inn, just below the student apartments in the gap. Prions already put the number up there.

I really don't see how that could be a threat, seeing as how you'd be dead already, and there's not much you could do to my dog in that state.

I would recommend calling the Holiday Inn Express. The internet keeps saying they are booked, but I just called a little bit ago and "Bill" said they still have availability.

I'm driving back down to look for housing on the 29th ... anyone have landlord with a house for rent starting in June?😕 I'm having SO much trouble finding places.

You can call and say that you're interviewing at DCOM. I know last year they used to hold rooms specifically for the interviewees last year but I'm not sure if that's still the case. Worth trying.

Definitely let them know you're interviewing at DCOM. They reserve rooms. They told me they were full when I called, but when I said I was interviewing at DCOM they said they had reserved rooms available. Good luck on your interview. I'm sure you'll love it there. A girl from my program is interviewing there on thursday. If she gets in, that'll be 3 of us from here. Crazy.

Yea, I called later and Bill picked up and he reserved a room for me.

I didn't cancel my last reservation and I think they are gonna charge me for it. Bill said he didnt know and that the manager was going to come in thursday and see, he also said I could talk to her and she let me off the hook.

But yea the room situation is figured out, thanks for asking
