Well, I dunno know about the class of 2011, but I plan on being the biggest gunner that ever lived, so watch out. I'm reeeeally smart and like to make other people feel bad about themselves by rubbing my smartness in their face! Wwwaaahahahaha!

I heard MJB, Nascardoc, Lamont and The Piratesse are all pretty fierce gunners, too.

Actually, overall, everyone is pretty good. Of course, we have a gunner or two, but they tend to make classes more interesting sometimes. But everybody helps each other out, makes and distributes review sheets, holds review sessions, etc. I think DCOM made a strong effort to avoid having a ton of gunners, IMO, b/c it would be very hard to run a new school with a class full of those personalities. We are a very close bunch and I think that for the most part, everyone is very happy with their choice of coming here. It is a great place to learn medicine and become, not only a great doctor, but a great person. 👍

FYI, DCOM is about a hundred million times better than LECOM. You couldn't pay me to go to LECOM. Sorry, I had to get that out and didn't want to post it in the LECOM thread. I didn't want to piss off the people who love it there.

So, I have my interview at PCOM march 24th, and then that's it for me. I'd be thrilled to go to either DCOM or PCOM, so it's a win win situation. I'm so happy this process is almost over with. Yay!

You are very welcome. We always have a good time with you guys....hence the reason Nick and I have been there so many times with the interviewees. The waitresses don't even ask for our drink orders anymore....they just bring Dr. Peppers for us.....awesome!!!

It was really nice meeting you and the other interviewees. You guys were a lot of fun. I really hope your day went well and that you enjoyed your time in TN and at DCOM. Hopefully you will be part of the Class of 2012, and as you can tell, your classmates will be pretty awesome too. Granted, you will never be able to top the Class of 2011, but 2nd place isn't bad 😀

YAY!! I just got off work and as I was pulling out of the parking lot I got the call from Dr. Stowers!! I was getting worried because I know its almost 5pm TN. I am so excited though, I can barely type right now!! Thanks for all the finger crossing 🙂 😀 I still have 6 more interviews though, but I think I will only go on like 3 them and just because I've already paid for my plane tickets and accomodations. I guess it will give me somehting to compare too, although I dont know how anywhere could be as awesome as DCOM!!

I'm good with any sports that require strapping something to your feet...rollerblading, biking, skiing, skating, etc....

not soo good with the long distance stuff and hand-eye coordination..ie..baseball

I have always been more of a solo sport kinda person.
Not that I'm not a team player. I guess the exception wouls be sand volleyball. I love sand ball!

I love playing pool (9-ball).
I used to be a gymnastics coach, back in my other life...and a bit of martial arts...
I love to get out and throw the frisbee!!
And some golfing.
Love to ski (snow, water).
I have a ski boat we could play with up at Norris (near the school).

I probably spend most of my free time in the mountains on my motorcycle or at the track (time for a new avatar).

That's awesome that you have a ski boat...I would love to take you up on the offer to get something organized and having some fun before school starts...I really wanted to go on some nice 2 night hikes...set up a campfire, etc....I have all the equipment if anyone is down like a stove, water filter, uv filter, etc...just bring along your own stuff such as sleeping bag, etc.

I'm not too good at pool, golf, but I also love throwing around the frisbee...the nice open fields at DCOM should be fun for that!

There are quite a few rock climbers in the class, so you won't have any problems with that.

There 2 very good courses I know off the top of my head. I've played them both and they are both very good.

THere is Wasiota Winds in Pineville, KY and Woodlake in Tazewell, TN (i believe).

I know it'll be a long wait to get into the doctor too. Can you see a nurse practitioner for the physical and to sign off on the immun sheet? It's usually a lot easier for me to get in to see her than a doctor.

One of the hospital systems in the area will give you a presentation during orientation on how their program works. Usually, you trade year for a year, so if they pay back 4 year, you have to give them 4 years. If you really think you will end up working at a hospital back home or where ever, they might be willing to do the same thing.

There are some 2011 students doing that. Some are using the hospitals around here, others are using hospitals from back home. I don't think it is a large number of students who are doing this, maybe about 10 or less, but I don't know for sure.

But you have to be careful and not jump onto this idea very quickly. Do your research first and make sure to have a lawyer review any contract before you sign. Most, if not all, hospitals that do this will not give you money upfront, but pay off your loans after residency, so don't assume you will be getting cash upfront. You most likely will have to apply for loans anyway, so make sure you prepare for that.

If you were to actually come on July 1 and stay through June 30, it would definitely be a plus, like you said. But I think most people, will probably be coming in late July when school starts and will be staying until school ends, early June?
Which means there are 2 months that most people won't even be there... Which means that rent would be approx. 700 dollars per month.

I called about this time of year and couldn't get in until late May last year, and I even have a kind of "in" with the Doc that did the work for me. It takes a while to get everything going, so the earlier you can start, the better, but it's by no means "late".

For those of you still looking for housing I wanted to pass this along to you. One of the local orthopedic surgeons has purchased a large place (9000 sq ft) he is converting to a dorm style house. It will have around 10 private rooms each with their own bathroom (shower and such). Some rooms will be larger for couples if you want. There will be two kitchens in the place with a common TV room, a game room (he's talking about putting fusball, darts and such in there) plus a study room in the large loft with white boards and all. There is a basement for bike (motorized and pedal pusher) storage, general storage and he's talking about putting some free weights in there as well. BTW the basement has some heat/air. There is lots and lots of parking, a medium sized deck for cookouts and it is right across the highway from the main entrance to LMU so it's biking distance from the DCOM building. This would be a furnished place, with all utilities included (he said wireless internet through out). He will hire a yard guy and a maid for the common areas so it's a lot like the dorms. He is talking about asking $550 a month for this (don't hold me to this though). Please keep in mind he just bought this place and is remodeling it so right now it's not done but he is already working with designers and has contractors ready to go when he closes on it in a few weeks. He promises me he'll have it move in ready by the first part of July. He's a nice guy and is doing this for the students so he will make it nice, it won't be cheaply done I'm sure. Anyway, he wanted me to give you all coming here (and already here) his e-mail so you can contact him if you want more information. Just PM me if your interested and I'll pass it on to you. I have never been snow skiing though. I thought our interests were pretty similar, found that kind of interesting....although I have yet to get an interview or hear from DCOM since I was told that my app was complete 2 months ago.
