LMU-DCOM (DeBusk COM) Discussion thread Part 2 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
how long was it until, everyone received their interviews after their application is complete? I gave lmu my new mcat score last week. My stats are 3.63, 3.42 sci, 26 mcat (10p9b7v)
It really varies. Some people hear back within a week, others it is longer. I was in the 3rd interview group of the season, so mine came really soon on (plus I live in Knoxville and getting a last second call wasn't a problem).

cameljockey please take this in the nicest possible way, but when i read your posts i get this overwhelming urge to grab you and shake you really hard 😀

hahahaha, why? stupid question? im saying that is pretty important. haha

one thing i learned in the last few days...don't ever make nascar mad😉
:laugh:

pffftt... I do that all the time! It's kind of like a fun game that I play.:meanie:

We should get together with the boat sometime...I need an excuse to fire up the Waverunner...and blow off some steam.

Over spring break, I plan to get it out and shine it up and get it ready to be abused for my two months off this summer (if I can afford the gas).

Mmmm...waverunner! Fun!

I love to slalom and cruise around...not much for the wakeboarding. Maybe I should give it another try this season... I would definately love to have a waverunner. Maybe in ten years...

Ugh hoss!! That is all kinds of wrong!! :barf:
That's what I thought when I first saw it! They were talking about looking it up on that site on the radio, but they would never say what it was...so I had to go look for myself. Kind of funny how popular that song is and no one thinks about what they're actually singing about:laugh:

Hey!!! I was a gymnastics coach for 10 years (started at age 15, ended last August), was a competitive gymnast for too many years to count, and was a competitive water skiier (ranked 3rd in the state of Missouri at age 10). I have never been snow skiing though. I thought our interests were pretty similar, found that kind of interesting....although I have yet to get an interview or hear from DCOM since I was told that my app was complete 2 months ago.

I was a competitive gymnast for 15 years 👍 Wish my body didn't hurt every day because of it, or I would still be flipping 😀

I finally found a house to rent in Harrogate, yay! It's starting to feel real now. We checked out a bunch that we didn't end up renting, so if you are still looking for a place, PM me and I may be able to help you out.

missdoc,

Can you send me some of those links for houses to rent/buy? Also, any info on partic. neighborhoods to avoid or ones you really liked? Feel free to PM me. Thanks so much!

I know what you mean! My knees, shoulders, and hips are about shot. They kill me! Actually, I went to therapy for my shoulder for 2.5 years...my orthopedic surgeon said that my shoulder looked like that of about a 70 or 80 year old, and I was only 21 at the time. It is terrible for your joints once you get up to a high enough level! I had an amazing time though and wouldn't trade it for anything. I tumbled again a couple of months ago and thought I was going to die the next day. Amazing enough, may layouts are still higher than my shoulders! I am too chicken to do any twisting or anything now though.

Funny but scary story about my shoulder....I took Vioxx as an anti-inflammatory, and it made me really short of breath and my chest hurt really bad. I made a special trip to my doctor about it and he took me off of it immediately, "just to be safe." That was maybe a little under a year before they publicized all of the heart problems related to it. 😱

ND: BOHICA this... *grabbing crotch* 😀

Hahaha, how could you leave us out... you dont love us anymore..... Jerk.

Dr. Ti came up and skied yesterday, and the snow was amazing. A little soft, but still great snow 🙂. Glad you and Greg had fun, Eric.

Count me in. I'm a wakeboarder/wake skater, but I can slalom... a little 🙂. I learned last year behind the wakeboard boat, so it was ..... interesting. We should probably take all the fatsacs out next time so the wake isnt so big. But it was still fun as hell.

I'm hoping to be in shape enough by summer to be able to run a few races, I'm a sprinter by training. I ran for two years in college. I love the 400m. I've been thinking about training hard for it and trying to run a few of the Knoxville track club meets that they have at UT over the summer. Dont know yet though. Its been a while since I ran competitively.

I love mountain biking, hiking, camping, rock climbing and anything else outdoors, so we are definitely going to have to do stuff. And I am so in on the medwar thing, Piratesse. Id do it this year if we could. I'm actually going to be a raft guide this spring/summer before school starts, so anyone who wants to come rafting, let me know and I'll tell you how to get to the outpost I'll be working at. Its a blast if you have never been.

I cant believe I missed all the skiing and outdoorsy talk this weekend. I was skiing. And snowboarding. I am seriously getting excited about being around everyone who likes that stuff next year though. I know I'm gonna be hating life because I will be so busy, but I cant wait until school starts.... 🙂.

hey i got an interview today at LMU!!! They seemed really nice, but i will be pretty expensive flying from ny and renting a car etc. What did everyone think about the school and the interview/

I did gymnastics from 2-14, Ice skating from 4-18 and dance (ballet, pointe) from 2-18 and now I am a runner, so you can imagine what type of shape my body is in, I feel your pain!!!!

You will find nothing but positives from this forum. Everyone here is very very excited about the school, even those who have turned down offers or have not yet received theirs still hang around because the atmosphere is so awesome. There's a reason we're on Page 39 of part 2!

You should definitely read the feedback on the school in the feedback section. Hopefully everyone that has interviewed (...clears throat so that everyone who has not takes notice...) has filled out their interview feedback report.

Congratulations! That's pretty exciting.... is it an option for you to drive down? It will be less hassle and less expesive than dealing with the airports. I recommend booking a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Middlesboro ASAP. I've stayed there both times I drove down from Michigan and it's really convenient and, I hear, nicer than some of the other hotels. Call and ask for the DCOM discount for your interview. It should be $60.50 including tax per night.

The school is amazing... I fell in love immediately. Not only is the building and equipment state of the art, but the staff, faculty, and current students are all really friendly and helpful as well. Most people will tell you that the interview is pretty laid back... I was terrified because it was my first interview, but it went fine. Look over some of the SDN interview feedback to help you prepare. Hope this helps! Good luck! :luck:

Wow, that sounds so familiar! My history in gymnastics actually came up in my interview and Dr. D'Eramo said that I should have no problem identifying pain and relating to my patients, haha. AMEN!

wow... you got me thinking about driving there. I am from NY and it is 739 miles away which is a 12 hour drive. It looks very difficult, but it can be done. what do you guys think. I have driven to atlanta once which was 10 hours away from my house.

I just remember thinking that the nearest airport is not very close at all. So, you have to worry about your flight being on time in addition to the weather... hey both times I visited, it snowed! I didn't realize it was quite that long of a drive from NY, but if you stay for the whole weekend, it might not be that bad. I still think it would be cheaper than flying, even with the high gas prices and 2 nights in the hotel. As someone told me before, in the grand scheme of the expenses you will face in medical school, the cost to travel now is really a drop in the bucket.

I think you could definitely make it driving. Isn't Atlanta further away though? Maybe it depends on what highways you take, but harrogate is about 4 hours north of Atlanta (if you take 75). Like missdochopeful said, book your hotel room at the Holiday Inn ASAP! I'm sure you'll fall in love with LMU . . . just wait and see. 😉

Good Luck :luck:

I think it is usually either a Tuesday or Wednesday. Mine was a Wednesday if I remember correctly. 🙂

I am assuming you are talking about that lmu didn't call you, but why not call them? Thats what i did, and they told me over the phone today that i got the interview. They stated that they were going to call me later today though.

I think Laura was talking about her acceptance call, not one for an interview!

whoops... sorry, good luck.

if she is talking about a call informing her of an acceptance, then Friday is a good bet. I remember I interviewed on Feb 1st and got the phone call the following Friday. Best of luck with everything!

So pretty much we have determined that they make calls, Tuesday, Wed, Thur or Fri.....🙂 Ok, as long as its not Monday!

I don't know where in NY you're from but I'm from eastern PA, and if you can get on 81 south, the drive is VERY easy. Honestly, you take 81 S all the way to TN, then you get on 25 WS or NW (I can never remember, I don't understand why it has to have 2 directions anyways....) and that will take you all the way to the Holiday Inn in Middlesboro. Well, the school too.

Then you'd go past my exit when you first get into TN! 😀

i actually live in NYC, queens to be exact, i think i am going to take the plane there and back its 190 both ways which is not bad. I am so excited :laugh:, oh sorry i meant to say atlanta is 15 hrs way, yea it is further than Tennessee (about a 1000 miles from ny)

Hmmm...I wanna boat. Maybe we can trade! 😉

We've got skis, a wakeboard, O'Brien Superscreamer, etc...all fun. I'm still too fat to Wakeboard (or need a 143 instead of a 138), but really, really wanna get into that sport. It looks like a blast. Wife loves skiing, I like Skiing and tubing..and just running fast on the Waverunner...65mph on water is fast enough for me, but I hear they've come out with a new model that is like 800cc's bigger than ours.

Ours is a 2005 Yamaha High Output Cruiser and has a 1052cc 4-stroke putting out like 165HP. Every day when I cross Norris Lake, I get the itch.

Just to show how tired I was of being inside...I mowed the yard today and LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. It felt so good to get out of the office for a couple hours! 2.5 weeks until a week of freedom!!!!!!!!!😀

I got mine like three weeks after my interview. Because of late LORs. So dont fret too bad. I think my call came on Tuesday before Thanksgiving, but they told me it could be later because of the holiday. Some people dont get calls though, they just get the letter, so dont flip out if you dont get a call.

~~~~~~~~~~~good vibes~~~~~~~~~~~~~ :banana::banana: 😀
Thanks Rose, but you should know me well enough by now that I'm going to flip out each day I don't get called
:zip: This is me having an anxiety attack!
Another idea is to fly into Louisville, KY and drive from there, which is a 3 hour drive to DCOM and is really easy. Just another idea for you. You can also fly into Nashville, which is 4 hours away. I have not made that ride so I don't know how it is.
Laura.....calls are usually made on Tuesday, but have been made other days. Don't panic if you don't hear anything....just wait for the letter. Do you know if they will accept you without having finished Physics yet? Perhaps a conditional acceptance? Just curious...I don't know the policy on that one, but I imagine they have done it before.
Rose...sorry I left you out too 🙁 It just leave me more people for my next "rant." Like I said before, it was therapeutic, so I will have to do it again in the future. I'll remember you then 😉
MJB, I love mowing the lawn as well. Its an hour or so that you dont have to think about anything but how much you can cut on this pass. I honestly like push mowing... as long as the yard isnt hugemongous. I wouldnt mind having a little place to get to do some yard work everyonce in a while and just relax and chill out a little. 🙂 I'm a dork, what can I say....
I actually really love mowing the lawn too! There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment after mowing the lawn. In my first house I decided to buy a manuel push lawn mower, it was so much fun, exhausting but fun
Its a long drive that is very flat and straight until you hit knoxville. Its about 3 hours to Knoxville, then another hour and 15 or so up to DCOM if you go the easiest way up 75, off at LaFollette then up 63 to Harrogate. Very nice and pretty drive though. I used to go to school over by Nashville, and came home a lot, so I have made that drive a few times.
Its the fresh cut grass smell that I love. And firing up the grill for some burgers and sitting back with a cold adult beverage.... Paradise.
I haven't finished physics, o chem, bio or chem😱 All will be finished by matriculation and they didn't seem too worried about it, According to Mr. Carney they were just waiting on the MCAT, who knows?
