haha oops... typo... dont let the adcom find out I dont even know the schools name k? 😉😉

Anyone interviewing dec 2nd?? I'm excited to see this school! For any current students... why did you choose LUM-DCOM over other schools that accepted you??

When I started the applying to med schools I told myself I wanted to stay in CA and would only go out of state if I had to, but I fell in love with DCOM 😍 and choose this school even though I did get into a "more established" CA school. I think the dedication and experiance of the faculty and staff, as well as the awesome technology and the friendliness/helpfulness of the students were all key factors. Also, the area as beautiful, some days when I wake up and go outside I am just amazed that I live here! I also like that the school is in a small/rural town and that DCOM is dedicated to serving underserved areas like the one we are in.

I really hope you enjoy the school and good luck on your interview!!:luck:

This is basically what you hear from all the students on your interview day. I didn't hear any hesitation in their opinions, nor did any tell us something bad about the school. Obviously, we didn't talk to every student, but you just get a great feeling about the school.

thank you both...

after reading about LMU-DCOM i was really excited about it (i lived in tn before & loved it)... i was just a little hesitant because ive already been accepted at a "more established" place as well. hopefully I will fall in love as you have when I go visit next week!
Do you know how long you have to wait before they let you know if youre accepted? I have to put a deposit down by dec 14th so hold a spot at one of the other schools. id hate to lose the $

Monkey I think sometimes if you let them know that DCOM is your top choice and you have another school waiting for a deposit they will let you know about your decision a little bit quicker. I don't know if this always works but I would definitely call them right before your deposit is due if you haven't heard anything and ask.

anyone get a phone call today from nov10 or 11 interview?

Just got a call from Dean Stowers - I'm in!!!! 😀

Congrats to the both of you!!

Thanks and congrats premed worrier! PW- who were you at our interview?

thanks everyone for the well wishes. I don't believe that I made a sufficient attempt to relay the level of my excitement in my original post. I am truly happy to have this opportunity. Last night was the first night I was able to sleep well. I feel as if a large weight has been taken off of my shoulders. I am that much closer to fulfilling my dream of being a doctor and having the opportunity to receive that training at a great facility is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

congrats to the recent acceptances.

LMU admissions said that my application is on hold and is being compared to others that come in. Anyone else have this?

Well looks like yall both beat me to it. I was gonna post that link as well lol.

Got a call for an interview today! Scheduled for January 12. Good luck to all of those interviewing in the future and congrats to all those accepted!

That's pretty common - my app was on hold at a few schools last year. It's definitely not a rejection, so don't worry. They may offer you an interview later in the cycle. :xf:

Thanks everyone, for your patience!

At first, I was disappointed b/c we didn't have more sites in Knoxville, but I am over it now. The sites we have seem to be really good and the docs are very eager and excited to have us. I am really looking forward to getting on rotations and applying all of this knowledge that is trapped somewhere in my brain. But so far, these sites seem to be pretty solid.

Congratulations!!!

I am contemplating attending LMU. The faculty and facility is amazing. However, I visited the area looking for real estate and/or places to rent, and I wonder, where do the students stay? I am married and looking for a house or large apt.

Thanks

I know this is a little off topic but was wondering if some current students had any advice.

I am currently engaged (my fiance attends Vanderbilt and is in school year round) We are trying to determine a date to get married (we were planning Aug 8 2009, but now that I got accepted I saw where school starts July 28)

What I am wanting to know is what the schedule of finals during fall semester is like as far as if you can schedule your finals how you want or what. (we are looking at Dec. 19 of next year)

I know this is off topic, but I was just curious about the school schedule

Docman-

Congratulations on the engagement... School does start at the very end of July, and next year will most likely be a replica of this year... We don't have finals, per se, but we do have an exam that is the last one we take... it is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17th. I would assume that it will be the same next year, and that would make that "final" on December 16th of next year, leaving you Thursday and Friday before the Saturday of the wedding. HOWEVER... I don't want to be repsonsible for you not showing up to your wedding, so if I were you, I would e-mail Dr. Leo (Associate Dean of Students) or Dr. Kiick (Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Sciences... basically in charge of the classwork portion of med school) and ask him to give you a more definitive schedule. The other option is that you get married a few weeks before school starts, take your honeymoon, then have a week to prepare for classes. It would be nice to have a honeymoon to look forward to after your first semester of med school, but it would also be nice to married earlier... I hope that helps

Hyper truth...

there are numerous options for you. First (and easiest) is Student housing at the University Inn/Student Apartments (I don't exactly know what they call it). They normally show it on a tour, but maybe they didn;t for you. It is a converted hotel... pictures should be online (DCOM's site) and other people on SDN should be able to give a better description. I know a lot of people who live on their own. They rented an apartment, a room from someone with a house, etc. That's what I do. I live in Knoxville, and my wife lives there to run her business, but I rent a room from a guy in a house up here, live up here during the week, and go home on the weekends. I know some people who live on the Northeast side of Knoxville and commute (it's pretty tough the first semester, but is more doable thereafter)... MJB on Student Doctor network can provide the details. I know a few people who live in Caryville/LaFollette, TN, most of whom have spouses who work in Knoxville or down near there. others rent in Tazeweel, Middlesboro or even into Virginia. Bottom line, there are places to rent, places to buy (if that is your fancy and you have a little extra cash... the market is pretty good if you're a buyer)

I hope that helps... start looking and you'll be surprised how much you find

Hi everyone!

I'm new to SDN, and I will be interviewing with LMU on Dec 16th. Is anyone else interviewing on Dec 16th? I'll be flying in from FL on monday morning and I'm planning to attend the pizza social at the Oasis on Dec 15. Will anyone else be there? I also had a quick question for those who have already interviewed...About how many people are interviewed on any given day? Thanks and good luck to everyone!!! 😀

Have fun at the Oasis, it is a good chance to meet fellow interviewees and of course ask the students questions. I think we were supposed to have 12 interviewees our day, but only 11 showed up, something like that. good luck to you.

Get married before school starts. The last thing you'll have time for your first semester is planning a wedding.

And bring me some Yazoo. I'm dying up here.

I would just add this. There are going to be a BUNCH of people in the Class of 2011 leaving in May/June to go to Rotations. I would guess there will be more than enough rental properties for the Class of 2013.

I definitely agree - if you have the option, have the wedding next spring or summer before school starts. I had a whole semester off the spring of my wedding and still was running around like a crazy lady trying to get stuff done! You could do it over Christmas break provided your fiancee doesn't require any help of you, because you'll have your face in the books - especially for our last exams which are typically worth the most points. That would just be sad though if you didn't even have time to get excited about your wedding!

Just got an interview on Jan. 6th and purchased my expensive plane ticket!=P Anyone by chance flying in same date to TYS who would want to share rental/gas? I get in around 4pm on the 5th, so I'll try to make it to pizza night!

so im two weeks away from my interview and im getting a little nervous about what to expect. I feel like im a little late in the game and im not from the appalachian region, so i know that doesnt help either. does anyone have any advice/tips for this nervous wreck? this is my first interview (hopefully the first of many!) and LMU is definitely at the top of my list. Thanks for the help! 😳

Have you checked out SDN's interview feedback section? Here's a link to LMU's page:

You sound a LOT like I did last year and it helped me to get an idea of the kinds of questions that get asked. Other than that, just be yourself. You'll be fine. :luck: They obviously like you enough to invite ya down... er... up in your case! 😀
