Ohhh no not more UF grads........ 🙄 haha
I know, we feel the same way toward you Vols lol jk

No but in all seriousness, I remember when I was driving up there, everyone was decked out in UT gear from Knoxville and onward...all pumped up about Lane Kiffin.

That being said, ITS GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!

Hey everyone, I received an interview invite a few days ago for Jan 27th. I'm really looking forward to checking out LMU, it looks quite awesome on their website.

Congrats on the MNC and keeping it in the SEC!!! Hope Tebow, Harvin and Spikes all go pro though 🙂

Thanks, and hell yeah...SEC has been dominating the BCS the past few years lol. Just shows how tough the conference is, and how far advanced we are in comparison to like...lol the Big 10 or Pac 10.

Uh, the SEC actually lost the bowl challenge this year. PAC-10 won every bowl game they were in.

The SEC has a pretty run of the mill average against the big-10, just the games like Ohio State that are highly televised. I do find it funny how SEC folks are oblivious to this stuff though. The perceived weakness of the PAC-10 killed USC. They lost one game AWAY and didn't get to go to the national title because oregon state was perceived to be a weaker team. All of the PAC-10 teams then went off and won their games (5/5) and SEC I believe lost 2..maybe 3.

Congrats Bioman! I hope you like the school 😍 Where you coming from?

Hello all,

If you're interested attending LMU DCOM on an HPSP scholarship (especially NAVY), please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I was in the Navy for 10 years as a helicopter pilot and I'm now on the HPSP scholarship here.

Good luck to those of you who are waiting & congrats to those of you who are already in!

Yeah I know, but I still say look at the difference in quality of the bowl games, aside from the Rose Bowl.

Hey everyone. I got the phone call a couple weeks back, but graduating has entitled me to work 50 hours a week!!!

My interview is in...8 days and I am so pumped to get an interview from this school. I cannot wait to see the rural part of the US again. Tampa has so much traffic and congestion, which is nothing compared to where LMU is.

I hope to see all of the students on this "pizza night" that I am hearing about. From reading the posts, it seems that the pizza is really good!!

I everyone had a relaxing break and I can't wait for this interview so that I may show someone how passionate I am about medicine!!

See you all for the Jan 20th interview soon!!

Here is a picture, I am flying in on the 18th to get settled and driving in from Knoxville Airport. Take care!!

petey, you should wear that shirt to your interview. rock it man. just kidding man, good luck on your interview, just be relaxed and take it all in

Haha okay then, I'll make sure to wear that exact shirt to my interview!!

Interview Invite Feb. 3rd!!! So excited to see the school and area.:soexcited:

Yes, they want one point higher..

So me and my wife will be moving out for the class of '13 and we're trying to figure out where to bank. We use Bank of America right now and will probably keep an account there but the closest one is in Knoxville. Is there a local bank that is decent in or around Harrogate/Middlesboro?

it looks like someone may have answered this, but i'd also recommend commercial bank. since they have the LMU account, your financial aid clears the same day (which is helpful when you start running low!). also, the CLOSEST bank of america is in lake city, tn. i know this b/c that's where i drive if i HAVE to use a BoA....yesterday, in fact. it's 37 miles from harrogate, so not too bad... much better than drivig all the way to knoxville.

the other option would be to keep your BoA account(s), and just have someone (that you trust) deposit your check. there are several people in our class that live in knoxville, as well as several people in the class ahead of us... who will be gone when you get here, but you get the idea.

hope that helps! can't wait to meet you all!😀

Hello everyone,

I just got a call from Amy for a February 2nd interview. I'm really looking forward to this one as I've heard raves about the school and the location. I have a wife, a 2 year old son and a couple of dogs and I think DCOM might fit our family perfectly—now I just have to be accepted! 🙂

I'm flying in from Los Angeles and haven't looked at airports near Harrogate—any suggestions?

Also, I look forward to meeting some of you at pizza night.

knoxville, tn is probably the closest (1.5hr) but most expensive
ashville, nc is not too bad (2hr) and a little cheaper
nashville, tn a drive (3.5-4hr) but it probably the cheapest

Always happy to see a fellow Californian taking intrest in DCOM, its way different than Cali, but I LOVE it here! 😀 Good luck to you! If you have anymore questions just ask!

Alright, another Californian! So-Cal just north of L.A. here and you?

I do have another question. What should I expect for weather in February? Note: it's currently about 85 degrees here today in middle of January so I'm a little bit spoiled—my cold weather and rain gear is limited but I have a few weeks yet to prepare. 😉

Also, since the interview day wraps up around 13:30, do you think I could make a 16:15 flight out of TYS?

Thanks for the replies.

I've had success flying in and out of Louisville, it's a tad closer than Nashville at a 3 hour drive. Plus Southwest flies through there, so if you book early enough you can snag a great deal.

No-Cal here, or at least I think thats how they classify Fresno, even though it is like right in the middle of Cali!

It's pretty cold here, definately has taken me some time to get used to it, but it's not nearly as bad as other places! I think today was like a high of 37 F and yesterday there was a little bit of a "snow flurry" (new term for me)! So be prepared for it to be cold and you might have to scrape some ice of your windsheild in the morning, but you'll be inside most of the time so I wouldn't go out of your way to get a big jacket or anything.

I would reccommend getting a later flight to be on the safe side, because even though they say 1:30 it could end up being more like 2-3, especially if you want to do all the tours and see the pinnicle (you can skip this stuff). Then, it takes 1.5 hrs to get to the airport (longer prob if its raining that day) and you gotta check in your rental, etc... But it is a small airport so check-in is usually fairly quick. So it is possible, but I always err on the side of caution. Sorry for the elaborate explaination!

Thank you everyone for all the feedback!

Hippiechick, you're from No-Cal indeed. At least that's what I'd say too. And I appreciate the elaboration—I should be fine with what I have.

One last question: should I assume that the Holiday Inn Express in Middlesboro is the best/nicest place to spend the night?

Yes. And the school sends a shuttle bus to pick up interviewing students in the morning and brings them back in the afternoon.

Hello all, I just got the call from Dean Stowers, im about 95% sure Ill be joiing you all in the fall. Good luck to those with interviews coming up.

Hey everyone,
Congrats to those that have been accepted, you'll definitely love DCOM. I'll be at the Oasis Pizza night on Jan. 26th for any of you that are interviewing the 27th. I definitely encourage you to come...I went the night before I interviewed and it really helped me get prepared for the interview and settle my nerves a bit, plus, that's the day of our first major test of the semester so you'll get to see what sleep deprivation in med school really looks like 😉

First off, sincere congradulations to all who have either been accepted, interviewed/ing. Second, although I already have my own answer I guess I am looking for a little assurance or positive feedback that I didnt just nail the lid of the coffin on for my chances at LMU this season...My primary was submitted to LMU via aacomas 1/6/09. All of my other primaries were submitted and complete by 10/10/08 however, I guess out of pure unknowning how great this school was I did not submit my primary until just recently. I have not had interviews yet because I am taking my MCAT for the second time 1/31. My stats are average in regards to GPA however, my experience in my opinion is extensive; I worked in a vet clinic assisting in surgery, giving i.v meds, rads etc. I have been an EMT for 2 years now working in both ems and in the ER. Any opinions appreciated greatly...so stressed only 14~ days until Mcat (I dont think its possible to study anymore hours in the day when youre also taking 19 cr. hrs).

Can anyone give me any information or past experiences about "interview holds"??😕

I'm going to try and make the pizza night on the 26th. I'm driving 10hrs from Florida so I just need to make sure I leave early in the morning, lol. Good pizza at the end of the drive will make it worth it though. I'm looking forward to seeing both the cold weather and sleep deprivation from the students. Gives me a chance to see what it's like during the winter months. I'm a Floridian, what can I say... 😎

I'm interviewing this Tuesday, 1-20 i think, so just wanted to see who may be there with me.

Good luck to all of you,

Erika

I'm sure you're aware, but if you're flying out of KC, they fly direct to Nashville which can save time as well.

From Cali, Louisville is probably the better choice as it would cut off about an hour of drive time.

So I just arrived at the Holiday Inn and I am freezing!!!!!!

I almost cried driving there. All these mountains and scenery reminds me so much of my home in CT. It's such an amazing place. I'm loving every minute here so far. I called all my friends in FL and told them I drove through a mountain!!

I'm going to try and make the pizza night too. I'll be coming in from another interview at VCOM, so hopefully I'll get into Harrogate in time. The weather forecast calls for snow during my drive down, so that may slow me down.

Take your time, arriving in one piece is certainly more important than making Oasis.

That being said "snow" and "cold" are relative terms here...

Does anyone know what is the average GPA and MCAT score for LMU-DCOM?

That being said "snow" and "cold" are relative terms here...

Yeah...weather.com said "snow showers," which I guess is better than "blizzard."

Does LMU-DCOM cancel class if a little snow falls? Here in Georgia, one snowflake will shut down the schools, county offices, banks, you name it. It is possibly the worst overreaction to a weather event in the South.

I must say, this is the first time I've seen snow more than once a year (from cali as well). We haven't had any classes cancel yet due to snow. Be careful with the drive since there are black ice being reported on the roads around here. Goodluck all with your interviews! And its snowing outside right now 😀

We got a dusting of snow, but all the schools are out for MLK day anyway.

Interviewed on 1/12/09...good news please!!:xf: Love the school!

Now that I look back and I see the other people in my position, I wish you all the best of luck and hope you all get in as well and join me next year.

When I applied to LMU back in August and got my interview notice in late October, I thought of it as a great opportunity to interview with a standard DO school. But when I went there, honestly, I was BLOWN away by that school and their program. I never felt that way about another DO school. The facilities LMU has, the whole school campus feeling, the housing, students, and everything else really made the school go from any other school to my #1 choice. Best of all, I found out I got in like a week or two later.

Oh yeah and I'm sending in my housing deposit right now for a single studio. Is it too late to send it in? They're not sold out yet are they?

I really liked the housing...nice and cozy, gym is right downstairs (A HUGE REASON WHY I LOVE THE HOUSING...CONVENIENCE IS RIDICULOUS), study room, everything.

Congratulation to all those who got accepted.
I receive my acceptance call last month. I interview on DEC 9th (does anyone remember me? I am from Georgia).

Does anyone know when we should start buying books or any supply? I would love to start some reading now

For current students: What books do you recommend to get a head start for MS1? Anatomy I figured would be a must, but anything else to help better prepare?

Also, on a side note, does everyone have a laptop? I thought I heard/read something about tablet laptops...?

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to study ahead or get a head start, because:
A) you might study the wrong thing and resent yourself for it later on
B) even if you get "acquainted" with the material, you can't fully appreciate the speed with which it moves until you're in school

That being said, if you feel like you absolutely must do something to prepare, pick up a copy of First Aid for the USMLE. It'll be a big help later on and can give you a general idea of what's going on coming in. As for now (speaking if I could do this period over again) enjoy your free time. Spend time with family and friends, take an afternoon or two off work and do something for yourself because free time will come at a premium in 8 months.

To your side note, yes they provide a laptop (ours is a lenovo thinkpad x61 tablet). I'm not sure whether your class will get the same model.

Yes, DO NOT study before you get to class.. it would be a waste of time.. just enjoy all the free time you have, enjoy the bliss of not studying... you don't want to burn yourself out before you even get to school! And yes, we have laptops, I'm not sure if y'all are going to have the same ones we have this year (we have different ones from the 2nd years.. but I like ours so much better, way smaller and lighter)
