Hello everyone, I was going through my grades and I noticed that I have a 3.4 overall gpa, but about a 3.2 science gpa. Now, my overall gpa should go up after this spring semester because I got straight As, maybe one B in org. chem lab (89.4%!!!). My science gpa should go up too, but only to about a 3.3. How much will this low science gpa stop me from getting accepted this next application cycle? And can good pcat scores combat the low science gpa? Thanks! Here are my science grades:

Chem 1: B
Chem 2: C
Org. Chem 1: B
Org. Chem 1 Lab: B
Bio 1: A
Bio 2: B
A&P 1: A
Org Chem 2: A (predicted)
Org. Chem 2 lab: B (Hopefully an A if my teacher wants to bump it up)

My math/science GPA was only a 3.45. It is expected to be kinda lowish so it's not that important, but you do need to bump up your overall GPA.

Show that you are improving on your weaknesses, I see you got a C in Gen chm 2, try getting a really good score on the chemistry part of the PCAT.

University of Maryland is my first choice, but also Howard, Shenandoah, Lecom Eerie, maybe a few others.

I did get an A in a 5 credit pre-cal class and a 5 credit Calculus class, if they help..

Just hopefully, I'll get As this semester and then I'm taking Physics, A&P 2, and microbio in the fall.

I think the decent grades in Ochem should overshadow the C in Chem, at least in my opinion. If the material is still very familiar to you, you can try taking the Gen2 class over the summer and really aim for at least an A. The huge leap from the C will definitely look nice on your transcript and will boost your GPA quite a bit.

Okay, and I think for regular admissions, some of the schools I'm applying to will see fall grades, and if I get an A in microbio, physics, and AP 2 I should have somewhere near a 3.5 science gpa...I just hope they won't reject me and give me a chance to improve my grades in the fall semester.

I'm not a big proponent of begging for grades, but you seem like a pretty solid student and I think its probably in your best interests to ask your professor for a little leeway on that 89.4%...

Thanks! Yaaa I think I will when I see him next. But he's the WORST teacher to do this with because even though he's an amazing teacher, he doesn't like curving grades, giving out extra credit, etc. But I must say, I worked my butt off and got about 7 100% on my lab reports to end the semester. I emailed him and asked him about every doubt I had, every question I had and really tried hard the second half of the semester. I got one 24/25 on a lab report just because I got a question wrong about a gamma ketone reaction, which wasn't online, wasn't in the textbook, and he hadn't taught us...

^^ It really doesn't hurt to ask. I mean what will he do, get mad and lower your grade? I've done this only for one of my classes, Biology 1. I just started out a simple convo about pharmacy school. Turns out my Professor wanted to be a Pharmacist when he went to college. I pretty much convinced him why I felt like I deserved an boost from a 89.34 to an 90. After much talking, he decided (also in everyone's case) to add an "attendance bonus" to his grade sheet. Got me the A-. So like I said, it doesn't hurt to try.

Haha yess. You won't believe this but I just checked my official grades and I have an A in the lab. Now I can sleep well tonight.

Haha nice!!! There are some really nice profs out there and if they see your overall body of work during a class, they usually are nice enough to give the boost...congrats! Btw, the upward trend in grades is a huge plus and you have a decent shot as long as the rest of the application package is solid...good luck!

Thanks. I actually got straight A's this semester and my overall gpa is a 3.557 now.

Looking good! Keep it up and you won't have any worries come application season!!!

P.S. Congrats on the 4.0 this semester...it's never an easy task!

I'm a sophomore (almost a junior). My science/math gpa is like a 3.2-3.3. I made Bs in all of my science classes but I made two A- and an A in my math classes. I didn't make a C yet....Should I retake a science course, since everybody is saying that a 3.3 is bad.
OChem I and II: B
Ochem lab I and II: A
Biology I: B ----My biology professor is so many things; she's so upsetting. I feel that she is really trying hard to make sure people don't get As. I'm going to stop here before I go into a rant T.T
Physics I : B
Physics II: not sure the last test was really hard, maybe a B or B-
Chem I and II: B
Chem lab I and II: A

My overall gpa is a 3.4.....I think I'm kind of borderline to the gpa requirement for University of Houston and University of Texas. However the average overall gpa in 2010 admission was about a 3.6 and science/math gpa 3.5...
