I got in this year with a PharmCas gpa of 2.85 and a PCAT of 91. One of my interviewers said that sometimes those things can offset one another. I didn't go to a top-tier undergraduate institution either, just a women's college....which apparently makes you unique.

THATS AMAZING!!! Good for you...where did you get in??

I don't know about that i have a 3.44 GPA and a 95 on PCAT. Have had a bunch of interviews recently though so hope for the best. Where did you get into.

I have lost stat but I got accepted to Midwestern-Chicago and I just finished my interview with LECOM. I have 3.15 overall GPA and 3.0 science GPA. But, when I got accepted which was around December, 15th,,,my GPA was lower because fall transcript was not offered at that time..3.0 overall and 2.8 science. My PCAT was 70. for composite.

I think you may win the prize with this one. Most applicants have had low GPA, high PCAT or High GPA, Low PCAT. While 70 isn't the lowest I've seen it's not the 90's that the other low 3's have had. Must have interviewed really well. Congratulations on your acceptance.

And when they read your thoughts and have icy looks of death, that's a scary thing.:scared:

No kidding. She talked to my boss yesterday about interview tips (he does medical student interviews) and he joked about a weakness men can say. He told her they shoudl all say they look at girls butts too much. I laughed and then realized that was a bad thing to laugh about.

Yeah....I applied very early including supplemental application (September). Also I have very strong recommendation letters and personal statement. All professors wrote not only my stat on the class but also my srong point and my prospect, etc.
For PCAT, I got 99 on chemistry, 98 on math , 68 on biology but I did really bad on reading and verbal. That is why my score dropped down to 70. Some school look for science score on PCAT. I guess that is why they consider me as a possible candidate. But, as someone mentioned I am one of the lucky one. Also, I like to tell you guys that this is my THIRD (3rd) time 🙁 applying phrmacy school. I had lived last three years miserably. So, patience is also important. For those who are about to give up, think about me. Then, you might not want to give up. 😀

Hey comet, just curious, the past 2 times that you have applied to pharmacy school? did you get interviews and to which school's? are they the same school's that you have applied this time around? Thx!

First year, I applied to Howard and University of Maryland only. I got accepted to Howard but I decided not to go there (I regret this) because I was not ready and got rejected from University of Maryland.
On second year, I applied to 12 schools and I got all rejected. I fell depression after I found out that even the last school rejected me. 🙁
But, I applied 10 schools this year. Some schools are same as last year but I applied many new schools this year.

Let me tell you the school that you should not apply with low stat.
Albany
Any state school (I mean public school-I applied many public schools last year)

I guess i'm curious... cuz i'm an in-stater with an interview at midwestern CCP on Feb 12th, just wondering how they decide if your a good candidate at their pharmacy. And also did you apply to midwestern last year?

Yes, I applied to midwestern last year as well. But, I was rejected last year. I sent my application around Feb. at this time.

At Candidate Visit, it is very important to show them you are unique than any other applicant. At the visit, I kinda asked lots of questions. Also, when we finally divided into small group, we were asked to tell about ourselves in turn. I kinda emphasized my passion being psychiatric pharmacist and the faculty in my group seemed very impressed.

I got an interview with Iowa!!!! My PCAT was a 66 and my GPA is around a 3.4. I have 7 years technician experience, excellent references and this is my 2nd time applying

Hi,
I also have a low gpa(3.2) and was wondering what schools took these people you said you received e-mail from with low gpa's

Actually I have gotten 12 emails from students who have gotten into pharm school with low stats. One of which with a 2.7 gpa and a 55pcat...so I must say that you are wrong!!!

I may be subpar....but atleast I do not have a subpar attitude.

Hi,
I also have a low gpa(3.0) and was wondering what schools accepted these students with the low stats
thanks

My GPA is waaaaaay below yours (but it trends sharply upward) but my PCAT was a 95. In addition, I've got about 10 years of pharmacy experience. Your stats aren't bad, you'll just have to set yourself apart during your interview.

😡 I agree with CollegeGirl.. why are people trying to show off here she did not literally mean anyone with a 4.0 an a 99 on their PCATs. The question should be is there anyone with below a 3.0 and a descent PCAT score who got into Pharmacy school and what schools did they get accepted too. if anyone could answer this but you dont feel comfortable posting it please mail it to me. I'm serious about this and other people choose to show off stating they have a 3.9 who cares if you had a 3.9 get over yourself....

I don't know if this comment was direct at me or what but my GPA is well below a 3.0. Yes, I have a high PCAT, but my point is you that you don't have to have both to get into pharmacy school. I'm definitely not trying to "show off". Having a low GPA is one of the most embarrasing things I've had to go through - so kiss my a$$.

One of my friends got into Hawaii University with a 2.3 GPA and 50 on the PCAT! Amazing!

Its not all about GPA. Its more about where you took your prereqs and what kind of load you carry per semester. Besides low GPA should be supplemented with a killer P.S and interview

thanks for the info. I guess I'll jst have to study real hard for the pcat

A B.S. will help you if you have low stats. Just remember to apply to as many schools as you can with a wide range of competitiveness.

HOlY CRAP! Hawaii is a new program, do you think they will try and weed out the people who can't hack it really quick.

Also if your stats are subpar where would one be most likely to be accepted?

The beauty of it is that not all schools require the PCAT.

My stats are 3.67GPA and a 35% on my PCAT, yes 35! I actually got an interview to a school that requires the PCAT (a top-ranked school) but I also got interviews at 2 schools that do not require the PCAT. Not everyone is perfect so you need to do your research on what schools will take you in with your stats. In my case I applied to the No PCAT schools.

I also have a ton of pharmacy experience and volunteering and did very well on my interviews.

my pharmcas gpa was 3.3 and i didn't take the pcat . 1+ year pharmacy volunteer experience.. research experience at lab. accepted to llu 🙂..i think i am pretty "lucky". so im realli thankful considering my gpa was not that high.. perhaps my interview or non-academic part did the trick?

The PCAT is there for a reason. It is a way to see if you know your stuff. If you have a low GPA, this is the perfect opportunity to show that you are not stupid and they will forgive your low GPA for that. I would kill for your PCAT score.

If this is your third year applying to pharmacy school you need to ask yourself what types of schools are you applying to. Are you only applying to one school or multiple schools? Are you applying to a variety of different types of schools e.g. state schools, private schools, no PCAT schools, etc? Maybe you need to apply to 5-10 schools to get 3 interviews and get accepted to 2. There you go. Your in. Just remember, there are plenty of schhols that would love to have you, you just need to find those schools. Good luck.

She applied to 10 schools this year and already got into at least 2 already 🙂

I only applied to the University of Oklahoma. I haven't gotten in yet, but I was granted an interview. They receive about 500 applications per year, grant about 200 interviews and accept about 140 students. With my experience, my PCAT score, and my inteview, I feel like I have a decent chance of getting in, even though my GPA is pathetic. Also keep this in mind: If you have a lower GPA, but your GPA trends upward (especially in your last and most difficult semesters), pharmacy schools look much more favorably upon that than they do somebody with a higher GPA whose GPA trends downward in the later, more difficult semesters. If you can do well in the tough classes as an undergrad, you can probably do well in pharmacy school, and that is the information that pharmacy schools are really looking for.

My problem is that my GPA has had a downward trend for the last few semesters.🙁 Part of that was due to working part-time in a research lab, having more responsibilities living at home with my parents, and being a part of a demanding leadership position, but I think that trend may keep me out of every pharmacy school.

Have you already completed your degree? Have you taken the PCAT? Don't worry too much about your GPA. If you've got some classes remaining to be taken, just make sure that you do your best in them and do whatever it takes to get the highest grades possible. The research experience will also help you - I've got about 2 years myself and it was something that the interview committee was definitely impressed with. They really like people who can stay focused on goals, even through difficult conditions. If you are having problems at home, try not to lose sight of your goals - the strife that accompanies any journey are what make you stronger and the way in which you deal with problems shows a lot about who you are.

Stick with it - you can do it!!

I will have my degree this May and my PCAT is a 94. That PCAT probably was the main reason why schools probably chose me for an interview. I'm hopeful, but I'm on the bubble.

Hopefully, my spring break will end in an acceptance somewhere!😀

Well it looks like you and I are in the same boat - hopefully we both get good news soon. I don't know about you, but I've been a nervous wreck the last couple of weeks.

The mail just came in, and Creighton has accepted me!😀

I bet that was a tough 3 or 4 seconds getting that envelope open. What was your initial reaction??? Did you wet yourself??

I've gotten rejection letters before, so I knew I was accepted when Creighton's envelope felt thick.😉 Rejection letters are always on one thin sheet of the crappiest paper the school can find. 🙂

I didn't wet myself though.........😎

That's so cool! Congratulations; I'm really happy for you.

You're accepting, right? ;-)

Getting an acceptance and/or an interview is a privilege. I'm just happy that these schools take a chance with me when they make such requests. That being said, I want to reciprocate by at least waiting until I've heard back from all the schools I've applied to before sending in my deposit.🙂

Congrats on getting in. The whole envelope thing can be stressful. I received one from Michigan that was one page thick and it made me want to cry almost. When I opened it though it was a letter to ask for an interview. My friend said when he got into Albany it was only one page thick and that scared him to death.

Good luck on hopefully having some more options to choose from 🙂

One of my friends got into Hawaii University with a 2.3 GPA and 50 on the PCAT! Amazing!

you are so kidding me right? is there anything that makes him/her unique? this makes me wonder about the school's ability to get accreditation.

One of my friends got into Hawaii University with a 2.3 GPA and 50 on the PCAT! Amazing!

Hopefully your friend had some amazing pharmacy experience or something that made him a very very well rounded candidate otherwise I would be pretty suspicious of University of Hawaii if they are having to take such low stat candidates, maybe they aren't getting enough strong candidates accepting their interview offers.....From what I have read about the program and talking to the admission people when I thought about applying there, it seems like it will be a good program if they keep on track.

I wonder if Oregon State will take away instate status for Hawaiin students now that Hawaii has a pharmacy school? I would think so, because Hawaii is not granting Oregon students in state tuition, why should Oregon grant Hawaiin instate tuition then?

Is there anyone who has been recently accepted to a pharmacy school that does not have a 4.0 and a 98 on the pcat?? I would be interested if anyone has a 3.3 gpa or below or a pcat score below 75 that was accepted... Just wondering, thanks!!

This is my first year applying and my stats aren't great... I'm wondering if I have any chance!! So far I have gotten 1 rejection and 1 interview invitation.

I have a 3.3 did not take the pcat.
interviewed ucsf and western. waiting to hear back
will interview usc and touro
