Hello all. Trying to make a decision between the two schools and would love some community input
Background: I'm a non-trad student; married and expecting our first child. (I'll leave stats since people might find it helpful).
Undergrad: Classical Liberal Arts and Culture (3.36)
Post-Bacc: Northwestern University (3.62)
MCAT: 513
I have also been accepted to AZCOM but will not attend because of cost of attendance and no desire to be in Arizona.
LUCOM:
+ Small(ish) class size (150)
+ Beautiful facilities and scenery
+ Incredibly friendly and welcoming student body (every student I ran into either said hello, introduced themselves, or wish me good luck on the interview)
+ Dedicated, compassionate professors and faculty
+ Decent COMLEX and dedicated board prep time
+ Local clinical rotations
- Far from family/support groups
- New school without a long track record
- Expensive to travel to or from Lynchburg
COMP-NW:
+ Within driving distance to wife's family
+ Small, tight know community (105/108 students)
+ Strong OMM faculty
+ Extensive ultrasound and standardized patient experience (70+)
+ Built in COMLEX study time/good board scores
+ Safe community for my family
- Small facilities
- About $7k/year more
- Video conferenced lectures
I think I'm leaning towards COMP NW because of it's location near family but am having a hard time pulling the trigger since I felt much more connected and excited about LUCOM.
Would love your thoughts.
