Lurking Beloww: Sea Monsters Sign Ups and Game Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You deserved it!

I should have stuck with my early feels but your voting pattern was pretty strong, and I moved you strong village from the way you actually pushed the buses.

Also, an endorsement from AM is basically like a "no touching this one" sign in my head haha

I was trying to break my mindset that there's a bus on every wolf lynch. It might have just been more stressed mixed signals because I was reading you as village and didn't understand why people were going after you though.

Also, what were the creatures?!?! I want to know what the other team came up with! This was ours, we named it Steve:

The Shelled Manajelly

Today while wearing these wonderful underwater suits we came across a truly magnificent creature. On first sight, it appeared to be the largest turtle shell that any of us had ever encountered just floating a few metres above the ocean floor with some form of jelly-like debris hanging from it. Upon closer inspection, it became apparent that what we initially believed to be debris was actually a living organism.

We cautiously approached this somewhat ghostly form emanating from the giant shell to observe this creature more closely. What initially seemed like a somewhat globular form took more defined shape and the nearly transparent material which we had originally believed to be nothing took on an oddly familiar form. The bulky jelly like substance looked like a large sea cow! However, while the rotund body of the beast seemed to be partially surrounded by the shell with the flat, broad tail of a manatee trailing behind, we could also clearly see strange appendages emanating from the body where there normally would be fore-flippers. These appeared to be several tentacles which expanded at their distal portion which came from the body and seemed to be guiding something into the facial area of the organism.

We observed this wondrous creature from a distance for nearly an hour as it glided lazily near the ocean floor, collecting small organisms and guiding them into what I would surmise was an oral cavity. While this mesmerizing creature showed no signs of aggression, we maintained some distance for fear of both disturbing this gentle creature as well as a fear that its tentacles could be used for a less docile purpose. While the temptation to continue watching this creature or even move closer was present, we realized that our oxygen supply was limited and decided to return to the Nautilus.

Though we did not get to interact with the creature directly, we were lucky enough to find what seemed to be a small portion of jelly on a rock which the creature had glided by while monitoring it. It seems that while feeding a small part of the organism had sloughed off on the rock as it had passed by. How fortuitous! While we never know what we shall encounter on our journeys into the deeps of the ocean, the sight of such a marvelous specimen continues to galvanize my sense of wonder within this vast realm of mystery.

Just starting to read tots chat and it's already gold:

Paws: I hope that you jokingly say at the end that MJ was playing as chaos and won by commandeering the sub...

Have all the likes.

Omg I just realized another rare wolf thing happened this game...kc "revealed" to skim
This is actually what pushed skim village for me. She jumped on the KC lynch after that and seemed to be skeptical of the way the reveal was done (I think?), and so the way she added to the lynch fire made me move her village.

This was ours:

Deep below the surface of the ocean, maybe, oh 20,000 leagues or so, exist hidden entrances to what can only be described as underwater islands. How the tunnels do not collapse under the weight of the ocean above them is a mystery and a miracle. If you follow these tunnels, the rock walls studded with glittering precious metals and rare gems, you will soon realize that you are leaving the ocean behind. The particular shape of the tunnels cuts off the water flow, so that about a mile in you are suddenly standing on dry ground.

Further in, an island arises from a deep, freshwater pool. Dip a toe in. The water is pleasantly cool. But you'll have to dive in to find the creature we are searching for. The water is crystal clear, even as you travel deeper and deeper. Where there should be absolute darkness there is a calm, effervescent light. Where does it come from? Does it matter?

If you blink, you will miss its approach. It's a curious creature, can only be called a monster due to its size, for it's disposition is nothing short of sweet. At first glance you might take it for some kind of fish, due to it's wide head, lidless eyes, and large caudal fin. But then you will see it has legs, more like a lizard, though it is scaleless. External gills frame its face, and the appearance of a smile might be charming if it wasn't the size of a sperm whale.

As you stare, the creature tilts its head and floats in front of you, fin slowly undulating from left to right, limbs motionless in the water. The deep black of its skin begins to lighten, transitioning through an olive brown, gold, and finally a light pink. Its gills flash in a rainbow, seeming to change color with every slight movement.

Just as quickly as it appeared, the creature turns and propels itself away. There is something in you that feels a loss at its absence, like a lifelong friend has vanished from your life.

Rare to see such well-done bussing

Yeah I'm not a fan of that kind of wolf behavior. Wolves really were dicks 😱
I didn’t really have a choice. Once anyone found out she was the ability thief, I’d have been high on the suspect list for not wanting to lynch her.

These were the results, I got twice so I erroneously assumed that meant I was attacked.

"You saved yourself. You saw some ripples in the water, but no big deal. You're high and dry."
You only got those results twice? Because you were definitely targeted 3 times.
There was a randomized effect to the conversion
What was the randomized effect?

Was there any mechanic that could've revealed the wolves' abilities upon death?

We weren't including them in write-up initially and each mod does write-ups differently. As long as rezzes are removed, I often will include tidbits in my write-ups regarding abilities etc.

So in response to your question, no. It's more creative process than anything.

Regarding the mission that @katashark created:
Greetings scientists,

Capt. KD and I know that you have spent your time aboard the Nautilus making new discoveries every day. We would be honored if you would share you research with us. We will be venturing out of the submarine for a short while in order to collect live specimens for some water tables aboard the sub.

Two crewmen have arrived to help you don these heavy, waterproof clothes, made from seamless india rubber and expressly designed to bear considerable pressures. They are like suits of armor that are both yielding and resistant. These clothes consist of a jacket and pants. The pants end in bulky footwear adorned with heavy lead soles. The fabric of the jacket is reinforced with copper mail that will shield your chest, protect it from the water's pressure, and allow the lungs to function freely; the sleeves end in supple gloves that will not impede your hand movements.

On top, the suits end in a collar of threaded copper onto which the metal helmet was screwed. Three holes, protected by heavy glass, will allow you to see in any direction with simply a turn of the head inside the sphere. Placed on your backs, the Rouquayrol devices are set to go into operation as soon as in position.

You should now be able to breathe with ease, let me know if you have any difficulties. You are now free to leave the diving chamber and walk about the submarine.

Please take this time and work together to describe a new species or sea monster. Be as creative as you wish. The winning group will receive a prize.

You have until the end of the day today. Feel free to include a drawing or picture.

Good luck,
Capts. Nemo & KD

Like I said, I was pocketed. Good thing someone can be unbiased (aka not meeee)
I think instead of having spectators and dead participate, they should have voted on the submissions 😀

I always say a wolf doesn't go down without another wolf on their lynch...if I had paid attention post-death, almost certainly would have been voting Skim or Stagg once dolphin flipped village, based on the d6 tally. Curses!

Okay, but now I'm stuck in the bussing mindset again. Why u do dis?

I didn't really have a choice after KC told the thread she revealed to me. What villager wouldn't lynch the ability thief, who clearly wasn't using their ability in a village way?!

I just mean showing me the tallies lol

I tend to over-analyze bussing to the point where I'll lynch the potential busser over the potential bussed wolf first because the lynch felt weird to me.

AM why U do DIS, because these days, when I think you're village, it's like the word of god lol

So, the tallies led me to think stagg was a wolf, and I was just about to post about it, when I saw I had 2 pm's. That's when I found out I had been converted, so I had to amend my list to include more people than stagg and bj.
