VTC pulled their official match list from their website and I don't think they have plans to put it up again with personally identifiable information.
This is really unofficial and there may be a few missing since I was just jotting them down while watching the match day ceremony on youtube.

What do you think?

I am feeling like an idiot having to google some of the schools acronyms...UWSMPH blew me away.. Who knows Wisconsin by that name?? ..Am I the only one having a problem here? ;)

haha Edited the post title for more user friendliness

Anyone know who matched into Harvard derm? Last year, I believe it was only one person.

I personally know someone who matched this year, but I'd assume there were 7-8, which is what they've consistently had in the past few years (8 in 2014, 7 in 2013, etc).

wow Emory didn't have a single person go for radiology.

Dumb question: is a Preliminary without a follow-up spot pretty much always code for "didn't match"?

two things
1. In the way its listed prelim is usually listed with a specialty someone matched but not the case in these anon lists.
2. Some people do prelim or transitional year and reapply for match bc they are unsure what to do since their dream career fell through the roof after step 1 scores came back. i.e. people who are disqualified by scores from matching ophto, ent, derm, ortho, etc. but don't know for sure what they want to do next. Others do it bc they didn't match period. in either case a prelim without a specialty aterwards means you have to reapply through the match again following year.
3. Some IMGs are required to do prelim and reapply thrugh match bc its harder for them to get categorical positions

Also to the person who asked BU's match list http://www.bumc.bu.edu/busm-osa/match-results/class-of-2015-match-results/

I never understood why everyone makes a big deal about match lists. Maybe I've grown older and wiser being a medical student now but a lot of people I know did match at well known places but it wasn't their first choice or second choice even so how can we say what is a good match or not? If we don't know how many got their top choice. We don't know why something is or isn't a person's top choice or who has changed what field they are going to match into based on their lower step scores (i.e. who didn't get their real dream job). We don't know why the numbers are skewed towards different fields bc each class has people with different interests. So I mean what value does it really provide to your life to see a match list?

Now that I've been through the match, I'm also seeing how the bolded statement is so often true. Even more common is that some of the "well known" places have very mediocre programs.

I think the only value a match list provides is assurance that your school places people into XYZ specialty and in XYZ geographical locations.

does it really matter if it's their first choice or not though? like regardless of the students' preference, if there was significant enough interest on the other end for the student to match into a good name, that probably speaks well for the school. although like you said I think there's a difference between good names and good programs.

The problem is that the match list contains so much noise. In this scenario for example, a student may match at a program that has a top "name" from an undergraduate/med school perspective, but that may not be very a competitive feat among applicants that year because of lifestyle/location/program instability/clinical experience etc...

The only way you could know about those things is if you too were applying to that specialty and knew about that program. I can tell you that when I look at where my peers in my own specialty matched, there are a lot of unhappy scenarios that look excellent on a match list, and conversely there are a lot of outstanding, happy people at places you ordinarily wouldn't think much of.

So I think interpreting match lists is often looking for patterns in the tea leaves. Sure, some conclusions are legit (georgetown matches unusually large numbers into ortho, MCW does the same into anesthesiology, Penn cultivates applicants interested in the research-focused northeastern hospitals, etc...), but there are far too many factors at play here to learn anything meaningful from these lists. I think it's hard to agree with this stance before you match, but once you make it through the grinder there's a good chance you'll have the same opinion.

An enormous factor that is invariably omitted from these conversations is that so much self selection occurs well before the fourth year of medical school, such that there is really no way to know whether a student had a reasonable shot at their first choice specialty, or that they received an interview at any of their top choice programs within a specialty.

So, stupid question, but what is prelim AFTER it follows a specialty? Like, prelim surgery or prelim medicine, vs just prelim? I suppose I'm just not understanding the previous posts.

Many specialties start in PGY2, and require a prelim year in either medicine or surgery, or a transition year. So when you match you actually match twice - once for your intern year and second for your actual specialty (that you will start in July 2016).

If someone has only a prelim position, it pretty much means they didn't match into a full residency and had to take a prelim year as their only option for a job.

So, for the list above (Loyola), does that mean that 4 people didn't match for surgery? It shows 6 in prelims, and only 2 going to advanced programs.

It looks like 4 people have prelim surgery only spots.

This likely means they didn't match in something, not necessarily in surgery. (Ie they were probably applying for stuff like ENT, plastics)

Would you consider that a red flag? There's a total of 5 prelim only spots, if you include medicine prelim.

Sure, some conclusions are legit (georgetown matches unusually large numbers into ortho, MCW does the same into anesthesiology, Penn cultivates applicants interested in the research-focused northeastern hospitals, etc...)

And aren't these the reasons we like to look at the match lists? I do not see anyone drawing any other conclusions here but the same ones that you have so eloquently stated.

I'm a premed so my question may be just ignorance. I noticed quite a few Kaiser positions in UCSF that I did not see in other UC's. Is Kaiser a competitive place to go to and does it have good training?

Kaiser is competitive for the sole fact it's located in California in my opinion. Not sure about the training but heard it's a decent place to work as an attending.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how are you reading Loyola's list? It looks like 6 people matched categorical Gen Surg and 6 matched prelim Surg? As was mentioned previously, while true that some people who didn't match ENT/Ortho/Plastics might do a Gen Surg prelim and reapply the following cycle for those positions, other ppl might be fully matched (prelim + advanced) where their prelim spot just happens to be Gen Surg. This is not an uncommon occurrence for Anesthesia, and more rarely for Rads.

I assume you're talking about USC in CA and not SC. Our list might be harder to come by as we were specifically asked not to distribute it.
Not even a deidentified list? That seems like an odd policy.
... Very interesting. The 2014 match list WAS distributed to admitted applicants 2-3 months ago; the email stated the list was "not for distribution."

I wonder why this policy exists? It's not like it was a bad match list or anything...
