when i was in milwaukee looking at apartments last month i saw this place next too wilshire manor that had studios (i think it was studios) does anyone know what that was called or the number i didnt write either down ...stupid me.

If you're talking about the place right around 7900 Harmonee (go on Google maps), I can try to get the number for you. It has the underground parking entrance right out front - brown brick building.

i have no idea what the price is...i think i remember the sign saying they were studios...

when i went to milwaukee last month i had a tour at wilshire manor and i got there a little early and drove into the other parking lot of the place next door and tried to go see if there was a rental office or anything. I also called the number on the sign and no one answered. I don't know why but i didnt keep the number!

I did a search for MCW on forrent.com and it came up with a lot of places in West Allis, and New Berlin. There is a significant price difference between the two (like $200/mo). Any thoughts about these areas?
 
Parts of Stallis are... special. But that's true anywhere, I guess. What are the addresses?
 
There were a lot..but to name a few:

French Quarter: 9707 W. National Ave.
Autumn Glen: 11200 W. Cleveland Avenue
Evergreen Village: 9535 W. Oklahoma Ave.

IS there a specific area to look out for? Thanks!
 
If you live in west allis you have to pay the NASCAR tax. I don't know what it is for but it'll get you a sweet Dale Jr. beercoozy.

Those addresses sound fine to me. It's further east that is more hit or miss, but past 80th or so is usually a nice area. Tosa will be nicer overall (houses are all like $100K more), but there are plenty of crappy apartments in Tosa, believe me. If you found a good deal with a nice place in West Allis, I wouldn't hesitate to take it.
 
New Berlin, on the other hand, is a good 15-20 minute drive and you often have to get on Highway 45, which is subject to what passes for rush hour traffic in Milwaukee.

Meaning that if you've ever driven in LA, Chicago or New York, you won't think that Milwaukee has any idea what rush hour actually is. But traffic slows down.

is the second week of june going to be too late to find a one bedroom place close to the school?! i am talking mostly about the places that you have to find by driving around or looking at craigslist not the complexes
 
i have not had this eritrean food you speak of, but spicy and flavorful = awesome in my book!

i was just in milwaukee this past weekend... found an apartment (yay!) and there seemed to be plenty of places to choose from around still. 🙂

now all i need is a way to afford furniture....

St. Vincent de Paul and Council for the Blind thrift stores seem to have better deals than Goodwill. The Salvation Army on National also seems to have the occasional useful item.

It's hard when you go to a new town. Some thrift stores are just so awful. Duct tape, of course, is the same everywhere.
 
I bought some duct tape in mexico once...it was the strongest duct tape I've every used.

When people travel, they bring my brothers duct tape as presents. I think they have Japanese duct tape and some random European duct tapes.

Duct tape -- the handy man's secret weapon.
 
Okay, I drove past this place about 15 minutes ago, and there's no sign saying there's anything for rent, so I couldn't find a phone number either. There's a house across the street that says it has a 3BR available - (414) 258-1791.

I think this is the place that I was asked about though.

Haha, I figured it out last night while browsing around. If you pan the camera down, you can see the car that the camera is mounted on. I think they have a little assembly several feet above the car with several cameras pointed in all different directions coupled with a GPS (GPS + laptop = live positioning in Google earth, I think). Voila. It must've taken a lot of time though.

I think they wanted a better name. Granted, I have the coolest last name ever, so I'm a little snobby about it, but Boring? Really? That's just sad. They should sue their parents. Just a thought.
 
I wasn't sure if I should post it in the medical student, pre-forum, or what, but since we have a mixture of both in here, I figured what the hell. It was an interesting article published in the LA Times about websites where patients can rate their doctors. I personally think it isn't too great of an idea because I think that the potential for harm is greater than good. I also understand that if you are a "good doctor" you supposedly should have nothing to worry about. Your thoughts?

It will be an unfair representation. People always look to complain after a bad experience, but they won't go looking to post a review if things went well.


Edit - I made sure to give my PCP a positive review.
 
Transparency is a good thing. Random ranting patients and tiny sample sizes are not a good thing. Check out the Wisconsin Hospital Association's Checkpoint and Pricepoint to see how ratings can be done empiracally and fairly. The random online stuff is useless, meaningless and harmful.

Also, you'll probably get a lot more responses in the main allo forum than here.
