I've seen this advertised as a specialty.

Exactly, what does a medical geneticist actually do?

Here's the link for Mayo's Medical Genetics program and this is the link to Stanford's residency program.

I had was looking into this field a while back. There's not much out there, you basically just have to google on MEDICAL GENETICS and read the different programs' websites.

A few Marshfield Clinic (disclosure: the town I grew up in) links. I don't know if they offer any training in medical genetics, but they apparently put a lot of resources toward the field:

Center for Medical Genetics:

Personalized Medicine Research Center:

Medical Genetic Services:

(Marshfield Clinic's Research Foundation is much larger than I ever realized: http://www.marshfieldclinic.org/research/)

I'm going to do either a fellowship in Genetics or a combined Pedi/Med Gene residency. We treat kiddos with genetic diseases.

nothing important, im just going around bumping old genetics threads to see if theres any fresh input to be had

Geneticists do a lot of varied clinical work! The diagnosis people with complex diseases, investigated underlying genetic syndromes to provide an idea of inherited risk and developing other complications, evaluate cancer patients for possible hereditary cancer .... they can also work in labs, do research, work at biotech companies, etc! Its a field in demand and you can take it many different directions.
