This might be a dumb question but does Michigan state have a supplemental application and fee? I cant find one anywhere and I am paranoid that I am missing it.

No, Michigan does not have a supplemental application nor a supplemental fee.

No they do not! It says this on their VMCAS page in your app - the first tab (Home) and like 1/2 of the way down under “Important Info”

Hi everyone! Just wanted to pop on here and say good luck to everyone that has applied! I am a current first year student at MSU and would be happy to answer any questions that y'all might have about anything MSU related or just general questions. I'll periodically scroll the forum but you can also message me. Go green! 🙂

Hello everyone, good luck!

Here's an overall application timeline from last cycle so everyone knows what to expect!

- December 13th - IS and OOS interview invites, waitlists, and rejections
- March 4th - Last day of interviews
- March 10th - Decisions!

My stage 2 email said the next update is in January, so I wonder if the process will take longer this year

It’s possible. MSU sometimes goes off their proposed schedule. It all depends on the ability of the admissions team, and supporting staff availablity.

When did you get your stage 2 email?
I submitted my app Sept 10 and received an email from MSU saying I passed the GPA requirement and my app was moving forward on Oct 14. I'm in state.

On 10/14 I received an email that stated my VMCAS application has been verified and will receive further updates. I was last minute, submitted my application on 09/15. Not sure if they are slightly behind schedule.

Last year they were pretty true to their schedule for in-state. Does anyone think they will email people sooner or we will actually have to wait until January?

I am getting a little nervous, I have not received my stage 2 email yet!! I did submit my application on 9/15, but??? Anyone else in the same position?

Also yes, but I submitted early august

Has anyone who is OOS received an email stating that they have moved to the second phase of the process, meaning file review?

I'm OOS and received an email stating I'm verified on 10/10

Thanks. I received that as well. The letter mentioned being updated on status, which I understood to mean moving to file review or rejection. I have not received that update.

I am OOS and got an email on 10/10 saying my VMCAS was verified and they would now academically verify my application but I never got a follow up email, should I have received one by now? I am not sure if this is a normal timeline for OOS students

This is the same series of events for me. I have not received anything else, I am wondering the same thing.

Same here! Do they interview?
Michigan state conducts both IS and OOS MMI. If selected for an interview you’d likely be notified in January to pick a date and time.

I am OOS, and they emailed me saying that my application did not meet the minimum requirement...but they sent me an email two months ago stating I had met the minimum requirement. Anyone else in the same boat?

Best advice is to email them to clarify. MSU is notable for having mistakes in admissions.

The email today is confusing. For the past 2 application cycles, interview invitations have gone out the second week of December. Why are we getting a confirmation for the next phase this year instead?

Interesting. I’d guess a larger applicant pool this year, requiring more time for adcoms to review apps and send out interview invites?

Because MSU is notable for being late on their own timeline. Plus, in vet school applications you need to be flexible with timelines. Some of my class 2027 didn’t interview until April and be accepted till May because they were behind.

I actually had to email them yesterday regarding my application because they misread my prerequisites and removed me from the application pool just to put me back in it today after realizing the error. I’m assuming they’re just extremely behind this year😅

Does anyone know if interviews required for all applicants being considered for/prior to sending them acceptances? or have applicants been accepted without interviewing?
Also, I've seen both on reddit and the APVMA facebook group that MSU is supposedly due to send out interview invites Dec. 13th which is Saturday- do y'all think that's still likely, given they might be behind on their timeline and that 12/13 isn't a weekday?

I'm OOS and just got the same email today! It said to expect an application status update email in "late-January".

I think its only post interview. I don't think we will hear anything until January since that what they said

does michigan use their own calculations or they use the ones from VMCAS for gpa?

I would go based on whatever they said in their email about the timeline. I’m a first year now. Last year they told us Dec 20th, and they were actually early and sent them Dec 13th. Highly doubt they are on the same timeline now if they have told you January. But yes last year they were on time or early on every phase they sent dates for. They will never send anything on the weekend. Interviews are required for almost all applicants, except I do know one person who did a special program through MSU in undergrad and didn’t interview. I know the wait suckssss. Hang in there!
Also if anyone ends up waitlisted for an interview, I know multiple people who got off of it, interviewed, and were accepted. So don’t lose hope.

Interviews are required of all applicants prior to sending acceptances. You can not be accepted without an interview.

The 13th is after our finals so it’s possible, and the beginning of our skill assessment week so they might have more time

They use their own calculations due to grade replacements.
that’s what i thought but they’re telling me they got the last 36 credits gpa from VMCAS but i could’ve sworn they don’t use it and on my saved pdf i don’t even see an option for last 36 credits and they said that my class doesn’t fulfill the requirement but the course description from my undergrad has what they want in it i’ve emailed them with everything hoping they messed up somewhere!

All I can say is don’t freak out yet. The grade calculations could have changed since I was accepted. Give them time to figure it out because more times than not it’s a mistake on their end.

thank you! that’s true it can change but i met with someone in march of this year and said they don’t use vmcas and recalculate it so i’m not sure if it did change or not but i will try to be patient! thank you again 🙂

Yes the same thing happened to me! MSU emailed me and said my last 36 gpa was too low. But I retook my 2 lowest grade classes and was above the 3.0 requirement- and I thought MSU only took the highest classes score. But according to VMCAS- which avg all retaken classes, I was below.

i was so confused because i thought they recalculate all GPAs but when i asked if they can tell me what column to look at they didn’t tell me… so i have no idea where to even look lol cause my overall says it meets the requirement sooo not sure if there’s like miscommunication or what but yeah sucks

Did you download your application? It’s at the bottom of the academic history portion of the application, it has all the calculated gpas in green.

i did and that’s what i was looking at but didn’t see the “last 36” i saw the other calculated gpas but was confused with the last 36 mostly because i thought they recalculated it and they couldn’t tell me what column on that saved pdf is the last 36
